In general I am not a big fan of german movies. Especially kids movies. They mostly don't hit my nerve.

But the first and the second movie got me surprised. Most importantly. My kids (7y & 5y) love it. Very much.

The idea about having your soul animal is always good. There are a lot of books and movies out there tackling this idea.

With this movie they created a very nice twist on that idea.

The new animals are a great addition. Juri is also voiced very nice by Axel Stein.

My highlights:

• Animals are likeable and funny
• Songs are surprisingly catchy and well sung
• Story is more than solid

The second movie is even better than the first.

The double story with the theater play is nicely done. Also the songs about the german historical figures are adding a nice touch here.

Some songs totally caught me totally by surprise since the singing is so good.

Looking forward to the 3rd movie.

Since the movie was so good we also are now looking into the books and audiobooks. So the movie was a nice entry point for getting into this universe.

...by how bad that movie is.

Was very surprised. The first three movies were very good. With a small decline in my eyes. But the fourth one is so inconsistent and not conscious where the first movies came from. It was painful watching.

The stuff I liked previously was the gritty style mixed with the brutal fast combat.

But the bigger is better formula combined with brainless scenes (Arque de Triumphe.... dafuq?!?) resulted into me shaking my head for the last 1,5h of the movie.

Don't get me started about the suit. Just seeing John hide behind his jacket all the time while fighting is so incredibly painful to watch.

And don't throw in 8254 baddies and when your solution is to coming up with the stupid idea of a bulletproof suit which also reduces any kinetic energy.

Sure. Action movies don't have to be realistic. But a solid foundation for believable action is important. Especially if you have those 3 movies before which delivered here.

Talking about believability.... Why have those shootouts at locations with soooooo many people and then there's literally no reaction?!? The club, arque de triumphe,... Full shootout with a looooot of gunmen and nobody is giving a damn?!?

Why? Just why?

Somebody wrote that script, had to present it and nobody raised there hand and pointed out how stupid that is?

The roles of the characters (the villains!) are incredibly stupid. Even by action standards. Don't know when it was the last time I heard so many bad accents and lines.

From visual perspective it is massively inconsistent. Sometimes it catches the vibe of the first movies. Nice scenes. Then it looks directly out of CGI hell with saturation put to 11 without any feeling for asthetics.

The scene in the building shot from above with the fire ammunition was looking more like a vampire top-down shooter game than a John Wick flick. Nice experiment though.

The movie is an utter mess.

Avoid!

The movie is building up quite nicely. I have to confess I had higher expectations what would happen to the end.

I don't want to spoil the details. After the credits rolled through it felt for me more like Namor's origin story. So the MCU now hast this god inbetween hero and antagonist.

The Black Panther story was mostly about grief. That topic they nail to the point. And yes. There is this threat hanging with war but the logical errors are too big to make this setup believable. Despite some good dialogue. But I felt that the dialogue isn't reflecting the situation we are introduced and walked through.

Namor was better than expected. Besides I really don't like his flappy feet. But the way they created the feeling for the way he moves rapidly like a hummingbird and builds up momentum was cool. Also his motivation is understandable. But then... Too fast with his actions.

And then there is this very big logic hole in the first third.

I also raised my eyebrows more than once with the CGI costumes/armors. This was looking a little bit too much like Power Rangers. Like they didn't really finished the CGI and it was too bland.

I also wouldn't call that movie bad. It's okay. But for me there was a big junk missing.

With Loki's ending, the What-If-Stories, the Wandavision story & the multiverse happening in Spiderman one could think or expect that Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness now kicks off the Multiverse story in a big way or at least hint more directly where the new big story arch might evolve into.

And this simply doesn't happen. Some tidbits to the left and right but nothing adding something substantial here.

And that's okay. Because the pure action fanfest and all those visuals create a speed from the beginning to the end which is very enjoyable.

It's simple und pure fun. Raimi's influence here is very welcome. Some scenes could even be coming out of The Boys.

So. Nothing spectacular but a very welcome flick to enjoy some MCU in the movies again.
