Diggers (2012)
Well meaning show that doesn't hold up
There's nothing "wrong" with this show. It doesn't take itself too seriously and doesn't try to be something it's not. That said, considering the average viewers palette and how television programming has progressed over the last decade (IE complex drama's like the Shield and Breaking Bad, or the depth of Nova and Cosmos) this show offers very little in keeping my attention. The cast of Diggers are positive and enthusiastic with boyish love for what they do, however I cannot understand why. This is a show that perhaps a toddler or history buff may have on in the background, but not seek out as the primary form of entertainment. There are multiple seasons available so maybe I'm missing something...
The Last Man on Earth (2015)
Fun, quirky take on relationships and life when mankind is on the edge of extinction
I liked the first two episodes just fine. It's a uniquely funny yet paced storyline and I feel the latter has rubbed some viewers "wrong." In a world of instant gratification and an influential "ADHD" generation, subtle and measured pacing is evidently a "bad" thing.
The why and how hasn't been revealed yet (again 2 episodes as of this post)but the emotional discomfort, coping mechanisms, stress and realization are on display in needle like fashion. The acting allows for a suspension of disbelief, the "Arizona" background an appropriate setting helping to reinforce desolation, solitude and a lack of hope, at least initially. Worth investing your time and allocating space on the DVR.
