Good comedy movie
26 July 2015
Maybe the movie is a tiny bit familiar, which is why it can't be rated ten stars. Nevertheless, The Brass Teapot is a very, very good movie, both funny and thrilling, well directed, and super well written. The comedy isn't clichéd, the quotes are clever, and the two main character's give great performances. I started to guess the budget of this film, and I guessed maybe four million, five tops, when in fact it wasn't even one million, which is really, really impressive. The Brass Teapot contains several very funny scenes, but also has a serious side as well. There's some moral tucked within as well, but I don't judge movies based on that, but rather how entertaining they were, how much fun I had, and this one was a blast! I loved the dance scene in the beginning while The Clash's song was playing. Overall, a movie that maybe isn't entirely original, but is still unique enough to absolutely make it worth the watch, and Juno Temple is wonderful in this film.

Very good coming of age tale.
7 May 2015
It's kind of coming-of-age by the numbers, but to me that's absolutely fine. This movie has great directing, good acting, but the beautiful scenery steals the show. I loved the constant switches in between scenes. The movie also has some genuinely funny moments, topped of by a serious ending. It's themes and lessons are by no means unique, but the movie has this authentic quality to it that manages to make this one stand out. I might even watch this movie again sometime. I have to mention the most memorable scene. It's sort of a ritual-like dancing scene, there's something oddly special there. That's a scene worth re-watching multiple times.

Cruel Intentions 3 (2004 Video)

Better than expected (6.5/10)
4 May 2015
I think the consensus is that anything released straight-to-DVD is gonna be so bad it's laughable, but that's not always the case to me (though admittedly I love movies in general, so anything decent is worth the time to me). Cruel Intentions 3 has a few good plot twists, some pretty decent acting, a super hot lead girl, and a really good ending. The only thing that kept me from rating this movie a 7 or an 8 was that some of the plot never really felt finished. At 80 minutes or so, this movie could have benefited from ten more minutes to answer these questions.

This movie is what you'd expect, it's nowhere near great but it's at least competent, and in my opinion worth watching once if you're a cruel intentions fan. If you liked the Wild Things sequels, Cruel Intentions 3 is along those lines.

If you like Rob Zombie's movies . . .
4 May 2015
As I do, then this movie is a fantastic treat. I originally rated this baby 10 stars, but after reading a few reviews I agree on one thing, the story is a bit predictable. Take away that, and this movie to me is everything perfect about cinema. I love movies most when I am attacked with numerous unsettling images and sounds. The scenery, cinematography, atmosphere, color schemes, is overwhelmingly magnificent. Plus, it has more of a plot for the average movie watcher to enjoy then something like House of 1000 Corpses. This movie is dark and beautiful, and the little details are what make it an outstanding achievement. I love Rob Zombie's style, and this movie succeeded on pretty much every single aspect. It did more to impress me than most of the big blockbusters, and Zombie did it on a tiny little budget. How can you not applaud this work of art? Disturbing, creepy, but never less than sadistically brilliant. Loved it.

Red Clover (2012 TV Movie)

Not bad at all
17 March 2015
I mean, if you're comparing this to the movies with big-time budgets and big-time stars, then yeah it's not all that great. But for a Syfy original movie, Leprechaun's Revenge is honestly pretty decent. I watched it on St. Patrick's day and I was in a good, Irish-loving mood, so maybe that helped me enjoy it. The basic Syfy movie stuff is here: cheap special effects, a weird-looking monster, some cheesy acting, but the movie also has it's positive points. The script is pretty good and I love the small towns in movies, and Keening has its own special charm. This is definitely a step above what I'd expect from a Syfy original. It seems as if the people involved actually cared to make a good product, and they mostly succeeded. I would have given this movie 8 stars out of 10, but I just had to minus one star because of the silly scene where the leprechaun hops into a car (isn't he from the 1700's? How can he drive?) and runs someone over. It was just too ridiculous to be scary, but the rest of the movie, despite some predictability, was quite enjoyable. By the way, I admit that these lower budget Syfy movies induce some sort of feeling in me that makes me want to watch and enjoy them. Who knows?

The Signal (2014)

Why is this film rated low?
10 March 2015
I mean geez, did we watch the same movie? What an amazing film made for 4 million bucks. Excellent performances from (to me) unknown actors. Great cinematography work, excellent atmosphere, a good score. The film couldn't have been much better based on what it had to work with. Maybe it's just me enjoying these paranoid, frantic, sci-fi movies. Maybe I appreciate how hard it is to get inside of my head, and deliver a kick to my brain. And yet this movie pulls it off. It isn't the most unique piece of film you'll ever find, but it perfectly mixes the scary and the mysterious with unorthodox style. The chair being thrown at the glass? Brilliant. The rooms we see being washed of their blood, frightening. And when Nic falls off the bed and we get to see something totally shocking and disturbing, which gives us that "Oh it's too horrible to look but even worse to look away" type vibe. I consider myself lucky that I don't have to have everything played out perfectly all the time. Just sit back, pay attention, and let your mind go on this fantastic trip. A wonderful film, and such films are needed to keep cinema fresh and exciting. But that's just my take.

God, I loved this series
8 March 2015
I'll admit, I fall into the majority of people who can't get into season 6. It lacks everything that made the first 5 seasons great. The turtles were different. They were intelligent, had well developed personalities, and they looked awesome. Season 6 made them too goofy, though I don't really consider it to be the same show, as it is so different than the first 5 seasons.

As for the first 5 seasons. Oh my God, I can't explain how hooked I was. My guilty pleasure every single night was getting a snack and watching one or two episodes, for a couple months straight. Here I am, at 28 years old, finding a turtle series that could still interest me, not just as a nostalgic source, but really hook me and make me excited to see what the next episode had in store. Season two is the single greatest version of the turtles ever. They travel to all types of places and dimensions, while still having plenty of time in New York City to do all the things they normally do. I grew up an avid watcher of the original 1980's cartoon, but I have no problem admitting that the 2003 version is the best of the best. The shredder is awesome, the story arcs (Turtles in Space) were great, the characters were so varied and exciting. Hun and the purple dragons play a huge role. The very first moment of this series shows the four turtles backed against a wall, as Leo narrates, "Me and my brothers are in a mess of trouble," and, "He's wrong, we're not wearing costumes," and what follows is over 100 episodes of pure TMNT entertainment. I love these version of Mikey and Donny. They are still the goof-ball and the nerdy scientist, yet they are still strong, dangerous, highly-skilled ninjas who are nearly equal to Leonardo and Raphael, who in the 2012 series are clearly the strong ones. Ahhh everything about the first 5 seasons of this series is perfect, and thus it deserves a 10 star rating. The turtles have never been so deeply developed, so incredibly complex, and the show has never featured so much action. Plus we get to see the turtles training, as well several glimpses into their childhood (these episodes are so heart-warming). This season really covered EVERYTHING the turtles could ever do, even being spooky in a few episodes. Plus, there is a Michelangelo Christmas episode that is literally one of the most inspirational things I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Without a doubt my, favorite television series ever.

Starting to grow on me. 7.5/10
8 March 2015
At first I had a little trouble getting used to these turtles, and the changes made to Casey and April were tough to accept at first, but starting with The Invasion (easily the best episode from the first 3 seasons so far) I am really liking this series. I guess as an adult, I could wish for a few less jokes and a little more action/seriousness, but if I have to choose between not having a current TMNT series, or having this one, I'm very happy having this.

The bad things-Casey Jones irks me for some reason. I really can't stand him always calling April "Red." Casey is not as cool as the writers and producers want him to be. Donny and Mikey aren't given enough respect. Leonardo is too plain. I'm sort of mixed on April. I guess it makes sense that Nickelodeon wants a positive female role for the younger girls to watch. On the one hand, I appreciate the bold new direction she's taken, but it's still hard to get used to. The Kraang got really old really fast, even though they are funny.

However, the positives about this series: Visuals, visuals, visuals. I am a huge fan of CGI animation, and the scenery and designs and just the overall visual quality is stunning. It's amazing what technology can do. The turtles in this series are very accurately depicted as teenagers. This version of Splinter is my favorite. He looks, acts, and just feels like a true leader, powerful enough to keep his sons in line with almost no effort. Shredder is also perfectly designed. He's big, mean, ugly, and powerful. His voice is also a great match. The villains (except Fishface) are awesome. Tigerclaw is a personal favorite of mine, and one of the best villains ever created. Dogpound/ Rahzar is a good villain. I love how deeply Karai's character has been developed. Finally, two standout episodes: Wormquake and especially The Invasion are this series' high points so far. Starting with The Invasion, I went from simply enjoying this show to becoming a big fan. That episode is one my favorite turtle episodes ever, regardless of which series. Now with Beebop and Rocksteady entering the picture, this series appears to only be getting better.

So, this version is a bit goofy (episodes like Pizza Face), however ultimately I think it can proudly claim to be a part of the history of the TMNT. I hope we get at least a full 4 seasons, if not more. I'm at the point now that I anxiously await a new episode to premiere. My rating of 7 is based on my overall feeling thus far, but I just might have to up that at least one more notch if this season keeps delivering the goods. We'll see what happens, but I'm very optimistic.

Underrated King Adaptation
7 March 2015
I was quite impressed with this film. It obviously wasn't a big-budget or big-marketing film. On my TV, the guide rated this as one-star. But I liked the story, I'm a Stephen King nut, and I enjoy watching films that aren't very well known. Basically, I didn't expect much so I was pleasantly surprised to find a decent movie that had wonderful atmosphere, as well as a strong performance from David Arquette. The movie is a bit random, and yes, it is filled with some cheap, cliché' scares. Basically, this is an exciting horror film that also contains plenty of late 60's music and lifestyle. While it's not perfect, it offers some excellent atmosphere and deserves at least one watch. Definitely recommended for a good Halloween movie.
