The Korean from Seoul (2021)
Peele & Surreal
One of my fav recent Oz film discoveries (the other being All These Creatures). Director Steven Whatmough navigates us through the realms of racial microaggression and immigrant identity crisis through a comedic absurdist lens. Sonically warped by swathes of smoky, hypnotic brass-heavy jazz, glitchy electronica and chromatic no-wave acoustic rock- we're presented with a delightfully dissonant and at-times nauseating peach of a film.
High Resolution (2018)
amazing cinematography, editing and FX... nothing noteworthy beyond this
Excellent sound editing- particularly the use of saturated moog, stereo panning and compression to simulate the aural qualities under drugs. The cinematography was fantastic too, especially the taiwan sequence. Can't say much about the plotline- it was the sort of book that cannot be ported to movie in any concise manner with its stream-of-consciousness mode of prose.
Justin Chon's character was a quite faithful representation of Tao Lin, capturing the monotonous deadpan demeanour fans cherish the author for.
Worth a watch, but perhaps not a whole lot beyond that.
Jackass: The Movie (2002)
Not for the family... nor the family dog... Mainly the maniac!
Jackass, the movie is a film which contains stunts- some to amuse, some to amaze, some to disgust and some... well some of the stunts are disturbing. I recommend you don't eat or drink while watching this film since the gruesome behaviors in this film would make you puke your food out of your nostrils.
I'm not saying it's a bad movie i just don't recommend it to younger viewers or viewers which are very sensitive to gruesome content. I mean, this movie shows these people (possibly super humans) who give themselves pain in order for our laughter.
For example, some guy in the film splashed a huge amount of wasabi (a hot Japanese flavoring for sushi, sashimi and other seafood delicacies by Japan) in his eyes, which made some people laugh, vomit or go 'Ohh...'. One of the most disturbing skits was the part where the guy urinated on the snow cone and ate it and ended up spewing a whole lot of puke everywhere.
Well this review is coming to an end so in this second last paragraph i will tell you people that i enjoyed this movie. Even if i wasn't eating anything i still enjoyed it. Some scenes are funny, like the one where the guy wheres old people make up to make him look like an old person which looked excellently real.
Overall this movie is one of the best (or only) POSSIBLY reality movies ever created. Oh believe me, but The Real Cancun was heavily scripted. I give this movie a 9 for filmography 8 for relevance 7 for acting 8 for sounds 7 for orientation and an overall score of 8.4/10. Good work directors...
