Underrated gem.
2 July 2015
This show may appear to be a children's TV show, but upon further analysis it has much deeper subtext and meaning. It's a show that makes Alfred Hitchcock look like Michael Bay and Kubrick wishing he pursued a different career.

This features themes of isolation, sexual tension, bullying and being an outcast, as well as psychological breakdowns/trauma. It's a show that will resonate with you forever and empower you for days. The CGI will absolutely astound you.

For the love of god, go see this show immediately. It changed my life indefinitely.

Beautiful film.

Warning: Spoilers
I put off seeing this film for a while due to people saying it was slow paced and very boring, however today I didn't have much to do and I gave it a shot. Boy, did I learn to stop reading reviews and watch for myself.

I had no problem with the pacing. The whole time, even the slow scenes people mentioned, I was too engrossed in the actual world to notice. The first hour passed so quickly.

The only time I ever thought "could this speed up" or "when does this end" was when Dave flew into that area near the end and had his little trip where all the colours went crazy. The scene seemed to not be doing much.

I love how they executed the characters. You feel sympathy for all of the characters, even HAL. In most films, I feel like it would be more like "Astronauts are good guys, HAL is super evil and must be destroyed". Here, I actually felt bad for HAL after he malfunctioned. I was heavy-hearted during the unscrewing scene where he was 'killed', but I was also feeling bad when the astronauts started dying.

The CGI was mind blowing for a movie so old.

The ending was very weird. I may look up an explanation, or I might re-watch it after a while to make my own conclusion. Maybe both, who knows.

All in all, I loved this film, and urge myself and others to come up with our own conclusion to a movie as people have very different tastes.
