Stranger Things: Chapter Nine: The Piggyback (2022)
Not an Eleven but a...
Ten. The episode was fantastic. There's no doubt about that. But I had two somewhat issues with it. 1. The pace was so high octane and exhilarating that leaving the final 30 minutes to not be part of that action might have been a mistake...I mean It's not a huge deal but I think judging by the pace of the episode it shouldve had an even more climatic ending. Not ALL of the final 30 minutes should've been quiet moments is what I mean. And don't get me wrong those last moments were some satisfying emotional moments(Dustin and Eddie's uncles conversation was very emotional and of course El's reunion with hopper were top notch tear jerking moments)but I think an awesome episode like this should've had an even bigger splash of a "cliffhanger" ending. And the other thing I had a somewhat problem with was the death or not death of certain characters. Both scenes were done great but I just think maybe they should've kept Eddie around for season 5?..he's just a treat to watch on screen and has great chemistry with the cast. I think they probably should've killed off an OG character here. But at the same time I understand. And also the Max scene which was incredibly suspenseful...but as much as I love her character I think it was truly her time in that moment to bite the dust. It's almost like it was meant to happen but they chickened out and changed their mind lol And it would've shown even more how scary of a villain Vecna truly is. But who knows maybe they got a really cool storyline with Max's mind being essentially lost for season 5. I mean Eleven AND Vecna were battling in her MIND. Maybe she could've ended up with her own powers?...hmmm..idk but I know it sounds like I'm complaining a lot but I was just explaining the things that could've made the episode even better, in my opinion. The Eddie Guitar scene will surely go down as one of the best scenes ever...I loved how every angle or story for each of the characters was intriguing, exciting and yet they were intertwining with eachother to try and help with defeating Vecna. The Duffer Brothers are always so clever with how they use their characters. Every groups story or plan rather feels just as important as the other. It's just always such a joy to watch on screen. They truly understand the characters and where the story is leading to it feels like. The show is just so good when it's at its best. And this finale was no different. We're invested in the story and characters as always. And for the show and it's fans to have such high expectations I think they did an amazing job on satisfying all of us in just about every category: action, suspense, emotion, humor, music, cinematography and just pure Stranger Things magic. Even after two hours and twenty minutes I WANTED MORE. And I think that says something about how good of a job the Duffer Brothers do on this show, season and this episode. A couple flaws aside it's definitely going to go down in Stranger Things history as one of the best(if not the best). And even though I thought the end scene(or last ten minutes rather) shouldve had more happening I really did like the concept of that last shot of them all looking at what's coming and the mystery of the Upside Down merging within their world. That last shot is pure torture knowing we have to wait at least two more years for answers for a new shorter season. 10/10 episode. Could've been an 11(yes pun also intended). The Duffer Brothers sure know how
to do finales...And I'm ready for season 5 like yesterday!
The Boys: Over the Hill with the Swords of a Thousand Men (2020)
So awesome
I'm rewatching "The Boys" for the first time and this is one of the main episodes that always stood out to me. The storylines all flow and somewhat merge together flawlessly. Some nice surprises for sure and obviously the action was on point. From the scene with the brother taking down the helicopter to the end, the pace was amped up. Also one big thing I think people forget about this show because of it's strength and it's outlandish scenes of action and just pure chaos(which is unlike any superhero show or just show in general on tv) is that there is some great character development and emotion that comes with it. This episode made me feel more emotional and sympathetic for the characters than any other episode of the series up to this point. There's some really great emotions from the characters, surprises, tense scenes and some really enjoyable action. And of course you can't have a proper Boys episode without some classic WTF moments. Season 2 is better than season 1 for sure and this is when the series goes from good to just straight DIABOLICAL. 😉
Game of Thrones: Winterfell (2019)
Better than you remember.
I've been rewatching the series for the millionth time lol And I really believe this episode is highly underrated. There was were some fantastic scenes overall. Nothing grand like a battle but just a lot of solid scenes, storytelling, character interactions, raw emotion from the characters, shots, acting and reunions. I plead you to go back and when you rewatch the show and you'll appreciate some of these earlier episodes in season 8. Especially, "Winterfell". I'm one of the few people that didn't mind season 8 all that much but of course I expected more overall(mostly from that series finale). If that finale would've been perfect, I would've loved this season. But this episode does quite a lot for the viewer who has watched the series since the beginning. There's a great deal of satisfying interactions of characters we've grown to love and some pretty memorable scenes overall.
Stranger Things: Chapter Six: The Dive (2022)
Good but..
Episode 5-The Nina Project is the one that should be an 8.9 and Episode 6-The Dive should be closer to Nina's score. But the last ten minutes of this episode was pretty damn good though. One thing I will say as much as I love long episodes of shows..the longer times make some of the episodes of this season feel overall slower paced at times. And I think a lot of extra characters with lines and stories can make it feel that way. For example the Argyle character is somewhat funny but just not necessary to me and can ruin moments and even the pace of the show. Buy overall the season is very solid. As far as "The Dive" as an episode id say it's a forgettable one. But the lake/steve scene is very memorable. But this entry will never be on the level of "Dear Billy", "Nina Project", The Massacre at Hawkins Lab" or even "The Monster and the Superhero".
Supernatural: First Blood (2017)
Underrated
I gotta say this episode is pretty underrated and at least deserves to be in the 8.7-8.8 rating talk. The scenes of the boys dealing with solitary confinement, escaping confinement and taking the men out in the woods and the whole end Billy/Castiel scene were all very good scenes. It deserves to be talked about more as a solid episode hardly ever brought up by fans. One of the reasons I love Supernatural so much because it has a lot of brilliant classic episodes and a lot of very solid episodes(like this one) scattered throughout the whole series. I rank my Supernatural episodes different than most things. If it's a mediocre episode I'll give it a 8 or 9. If it's one I loved like a majority of Supernatural episodes I'll give it a 10. And classic episodes such as "Swan Song" or "Changing Channels" I give 11's haha.
Ozark: A Hard Way to Go (2022)
An OZARK ending.
The BYRDES WON. The cliffhanger/not cliffhanger was clever. The Byrdes(of course) deal with one last scare that could ruin everything they were working for. Little Marty/ Little Wendy saves the day. We are told as the viewers he shot him and the Byrdes finally win with one last bloody sacrifice. It was a great way for it to show Jonah finally coming through for his family. The Byrdes are not saints. We knew this. But it was a shocking ending that made sense for the series. I've seen people say the last 5 minutes the characters acted out of character?..I didn't see that at all. I thought it was a surprise Jonah doing what he did but at the same time, not at all. He was willing to protect his family and get rid of that one last threat that stood in all of their way. I also think the talk Wendy had with the kids in the psychiatric hospital played a big part in that decision at the end. Losing Ruth broke my heart and was surprised it actually happened. They were showing it like she was going to be saved. But not so much. Brutal. A good series finale always has a heartbreaking death of a character. This one succeeded in doing that. It also gave us a very inventive ending that was memorable but also concluded the Byrdes' story and with that pull of the trigger...they had finally won. It was a happy ending for them In the most "Ozark" way. It was not your typical run off into the sunset ending..which I loved. We know he killed the PI for his family and they had finally won. And that look Wendy gave the PI when Jonah pulled the gun on him said everything...WE WIN. What a fantastic different but clever ending. It broke my heart for Ruth to die. I actually thought she was going to squirm her way out of it somehow at the end but nope...it hurts so much! Lol Some of course hated the ending but I really liked it. It really was a guy punch ending in the best way. It also kept the door open for future episodes or a movie.
Supernatural: Stuck in the Middle (With You) (2017)
Criminally underrated, guys..
A highly underrated 40+ mins...Maybe criminally underrated amongst the fan base. We all know season 12 isn't one of the better overall seasons... I enjoy all the seasons but it's by far not one of the best seasons. Now there's a good amount of great episodes: this being one of them. But for those of you that don't know, it was inspired by Quentin Tarantino's style of film/Reservoir Dogs movie. It works to perfection with with this script. It completely stands on its own as another SPN unconventional classic. It's jam packed with: humor, suspense, creativity, amazing camera work with angles and editing, really Great character moments(Here's looking at you Castiel and Crowley), mystery/intrigue with twists and does a superb job in opening up and therefore closing new/old plot developments. The villain was intriguing. And the Tarantino style of directing gave it a sense of fast paced entertainment. Sometimes I wish SPN would dive into their own creativity even more than they do. They always seem to knock it out of the park with different styles or concepts of episodes. Anyways "Stuck in the Middle With You" is Consistently solid from the opening scene until the end credits. Honestly a 9 rating seems to be a little low, in my opinion. 9.5 is the perfect rating to me. It does just about everything perfectly. And Castiel's speech is an all timer in my mind. Gave me geekdom goosebumps.
Supernatural: Thin Lizzie (2015)
Solid as can be.
One of the more underrated episodes of season 11 and the show in general. The whole B&B Lizzie Borden concept was amusing and it had some great humor and twists. Not to mention it connected to the seasons main story arch. Clever and sharply written. It probably never gets talked about because of how good season 11's collection of episodes are.
The Walking Dead: Squeeze (2020)
Underrated
Will go down as one of the more underrated episodes of Walking Dead ever. I gotta say they really used the setting(The Cave) of this episode to almost perfection. The danger of all the walkers, whisperers and just the plain tight spaces in the cave....especially the squeezed in scene was done extremely well overall. HOLY CLAUSTROPHOBIC. Only complaint for me was the episode had a golden moment for a sort of important big deal character death. I feel like the episode deserved it in itself. There was a death(we think) but I don't think it was done that great and to the wrong person for such a well done episode. But other than that I feel like they knocked it out of the park and gave us something extremely new to a show that can run out of new ideas here and there. This season is great!
Supernatural: Byzantium (2018)
Rating is far too low!
This episode is at the very least deserving of a 9/10. It had every emotion you wanted in a supernatural episode and more! One of the best episodes of the season, easily...Great performances by Jensen and Jared! It almost had the feeling of a season finale. It had Big time story and character development. It will go down as one of the more underrated Supernatural episodes and really shows how much The Winchester's/Castiel care for Jack. I also loved Lily Sunder story. Great set up and payoff for only a character who was technically in two episodes. Great writing and exciting pace!
Supernatural: The Heroes' Journey (2020)
Funny stuff
A great episode with lots of laughs! I've always been such a big fan of the "meta episodes" or different concept episodes. I feel like Supernatural is a show that could go on forever just because of the meta concept alone. There's so many different things they could possibly do(still waiting for Dean/Sam body swap episode) lol I'm actually shocked it never happened haha But anyways, This episode not only brings some of that classic Supernatural humor feel back but also brings a lot of heart and memorable moments with Garth. He Had some memorable scenes in this one. If this was a goodbye episode for him, I'd say they did a pretty solid job of it. The episode started out wonderfully bonkers and did not disappoint the rest of the way. I felt like the director/writers did a good job in coming up with an idea that not only was funny but actually made sense to the story of what Chuck had or has been putting the Winchester's through. I really liked the choice of music also. It was so different but fully bathed you in the nuttiness that was ensuing. Without being fully overly positive the only complaint I would say is a couple scenes seemed almost forced or out of place but I feel like that might of just been because it was so crazy at times. But it had a little bit of everything: The same but different feel, hilarious and with a dash of heart in there. Not a classic like a Mystery Spot or Bad day at Black Rock but really enjoyable none the less.
Daredevil (2015)
Bring it back!
Best superhero/crime show ever. Period. If your a fan of superhero's or just plain damn good television it's a must watch. Everything from the characters, action and plot lines are spot on. The character development is something that needs to be applauded, at times(especially the villains) Vincent O' Dnofrio is completely intriguing and captivating as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin. You completely buy him as this character. And Charlie Cox as Matthew Murdock/Daredevil was completely made for this role. He completely knocks it out of the park just Vincent does. And don't me started on those gritty action sequences. Just completely jaw dropping and quite frankly brutal at times..but In an awesome way. Its gritty but has heart. The quality is VERY high. It's the R rated version of the Batman Begins trilogy if they were seasons of a tv show. But with Daredevil of course...so bottom line if you want to watch an exciting, brutal, intriguing and smart show, this is it. Sadly there's only 3 amazing seasons. Hopefully it'll come back one day!
Supernatural: Moriah (2019)
Jaw on the ground.
After 14 seasons Supernatural is still finding ways to surprise me. I can honestly say I did not see any of that coming. The entire episode from beginning to end, was solid. It didn't drag at all and had a great pace for an episode. It will no doubt go down as one of the better Supernatural finales ever. The all out mayhem that transpired in the last 10 to 15 minutes was on the level of "Swan Song". Was it better?..I don't want to say that but I was definitely more shocked. The only thing I might have changed was edit a little bit in a couple scenes but other than that it was great. I felt it had one of the better cliffhangers and it set up the last season in such an exciting and anticipated way that Supernatural fans(Including myself) are DYING to see everything that transpires. The aftermath and consequences of what has happened are going to set up the best and most exciting season of Supernatural ever. The stakes are higher than ever for the Winchester's. And its going to be one HELL of a ride(pun intended).
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Perfect.
How do you not rate this episode a perfect 10?..The insanity of this episode brought Game of Thrones to a whole other level. Eat your heart out LOTR and any other GOT episode ever. The only complaint I could hear is some of the middle episode was hard to see but I think that was the point with the Night King bringing the night and darkness to all of them. But I did notice watching it a second time I understood what I saw more and enjoyed it even more a second viewing. It's completely breathtaking. The entire episode is filled with action, jaw dropping special effects, surprises, horror, intensity, fist pumping moments, shock and heartbreaking scenes. One scene in particular had me more terrified and completely PUMPED UP up more than I ever have in any show or movie in my life. And I'm not just saying that. I think I woke up my entire apartment complex by yelling at the top of my lungs Over and over again lol The director of the episode(who's a genius btw) Directed Hardhome, Winds of Winter and Battle of the Bastards. This episode is all of that put together and more. And The men and women who had any part of this 96 minute masterpiece deserve some serious recognition. Congratulations on making the BEST episode in the history of television.
The Walking Dead: The Day Will Come When You Won't Be (2016)
Somehow underrated?
How is this episode not reviewed as a top 5 all time episode?! 9.2 is too low in my opinion! The intensity of this episode has to seen to be believed. Me and my wife were so glued to the TV it's not even funny. Every moment had us on the edge of our seats! It was almost everything you would want in an episode of a television show..not much cheery moments but that was the point of the episode. It's a brutal start to an entire redirection of the show. I saw this entire 60 mins as a complete and devastating wake up call for the group. And they would never be the same.
When a show is making you yell "NOOOOOO" at the screen, it's obviously making an emotional impact. I was very sad to see ___ and especially __ go but I feel this was also done for us to absolutely despise the villain of Negan. This episode was so emotionally detrimental to the group and the viewers that we are still picking up the pieces. This episode will for sure go down in Walking Dead history as one of the best! Excellent work 10/10.
