Things You Should Have Done (2024)
absolute dirge
Where to start?
Lead can't act. Truly truly bad.
Script is appalling, it's staggering this got even looked at by anyone at the Beeb.
It's not funny in the slightest. Anyone finds any of this funny has severe mental health problems.
I wanted to turn it off after 5 minutes because nothing is worse than unfunny comedies, but this takes it to a new level of awful.
I managed to finish the first episode but it was in stony silence.
Please avoid this at all costs, life is too important to be wasted on this dire programme.
I heard about this programme after hearing about a certain actress scathing podcast review of this, so I wanted to see what the fuss was about. And by god she was right. This is awful, one of the worst things I have ever seen on TV..
Helgoland 513 (2024)
Thoroughly entertaining end of the world
No idea why 2 of the current 3 reviews are so low. They nearly put me off watching this brilliant german show.
The last 2 episodes which are mostly flashback scenes to how it all began are the best of the series and explain everything. Dark humour seeps withing the dark politics of this island haven. Excellent characters abound from the power mad Beatrice who runs the island, the obsessed doctor Marek who is trying to find a cure. Fiona the rebellious teenager who was born on the island who wants to burn the entire system to the ground. Even her mother , Lola, who is the island propaganda chief , becomes more interesting after a slightly annoying start.
Ignore the hate, if you are after a great story and some dark humour this is the show for you. Fingers crossed for season 2.
Northern Comfort (2023)
It's not funny, it's boring
I lasted 45.minutes. And then I had to stop. This film has no real plot, it has no humour, it has no purpose. I don't get it. I sat stoney faced for the first 30 minutes waiting for a laugh but I never came. The one character vomited on another which made me chuckle. And then the boredom came back in waves.
Comedy is very subjective but with a script as bad as this. The plot and characters are so thin that nothing will save the film from a lack of laughter. I have no idea what made Tim Spall sign up for this horror show of a film.
Please don't believe the absurd reviews giving this film 10/10. There is no enjoyment to be had here. This is so painfully dull and bereft of purpose. AVOID.
1883 (2021)
Modern masterpiece
A week after binging this show I still can't get this out of my head. Most definitely the best Western ever made. Profound, brutal, beautiful, desperately sad.
I love the work of Taylor Sheridan, this is by far his greatest achievement.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Looks so cheap despite huge budget
Watched it all but so many scenes are ruled by horrible cheap cgi or dodgy sets. So odd that this huge amazon show looks like a cheap Sci fi channel production. Covid must have had an impact, as fight scenes are so obviously cgi aided to boost numbers. Overall worth a watch but very forgettable and very clichéd fantasy.
Avenue 5 (2020)
Marmite
Woefully bad. Lasted 10 minutes before I switched off the pilot. You either like his humour or not. And if you don't then there is nothing about this that will keep you watching as it's nothing but awful attempts at comedy. not seen anything this bad on a mainstream channel in years...
Watchmen (2019)
Ignore all the Trump fans bleating their hate
Amazing series that takes a few episodes to reach its stride. Slowly storylines from the original book make its way into the series and the blending of the two into this updated world makes for an amazing show. For adult fans of a serious book this will blow you away.
Me Before You (2016)
Just proves how good the AGOT direction was..
Truly awful "film" with the production values of a cheap soap opera episode from the 80's. Clarke with no direction relies on facial ticks to cover up the fact she can't act. The message of the film is sickening and every actor in the movie will not want this horrifying accidental comedy to be on their resume. I can only imagine that the 10 star reviews are from pre teen girls who some how think this is what a love story should be and as millennial smart phone addicts they have never seen any proper love story film made before they were born. Awful film but when watched while reading the outstanding negative reviews on here it actually becomes an amazing comedy.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit: End Game (2019)
Terrible Ending
There had better be an appeal that he wins in the next season cause if you get sent down for murder with zero evidence then the system is seriously screwed. Such a let down of an ending. And the show lost a lot of credibility as a result.
The Big Bang Theory: The Stockholm Syndrome (2019)
Thankfully an amazing send off
It's been a slog. This once great show started to really show it's age and the last few series have been truly painful to watch . But you love the characters and so many of us will have stuck through the unfunny episodes purely to see what happens.and thankfully the last couple of episodes reminded us of how great this show was. Truly funny and very touching. the hug Leonard finally got from his mother and Sheldon's speech were both amazing. Not a dry eye in the house.
I Think We're Alone Now (2018)
Just go with it.
Loved it. A Gem of a film. Some truly horrible reviews on here from the usual armchair critics who plague the web in this new world of Trump and Brexit. So long as you let yourself the time to absorb the world this film is set on you will love it.
The Orville: A Happy Refrain (2019)
Sorry but this was awful.
A storyline that has been done before and much much better. Normally a big fan of this show. But this episode was so painfully an attempt to make a social statement that I had to turn it off 15 minutes in as soon as I realised that this was going to be the main storyline. Truly dreadful tosh that even in this comedy setting was one step too far.
IO (2019)
Superb intelligent scifi
Ignore the snotty bad reviews on here. This movie gripped me from start to finish with its ambience, score and great writing. Another Netflix suprise from its increasingly good collection of movies.
The Children Act (2017)
It's not really a film
Without Emma this would not make it as a film. As it stands it should have been episode 1 of "The Judge".
It does not really have enough plot to make it as a film and tacks on this wierd love triangle to fill in the holes. I was never bored as Emma dragged the whole film forwards with her amazing performance as per usual and even made some of the more fantastical scenes bearable such as the sing song in the hospital and the smooch in the hotel with the highly irritating youth.
Christopher Robin (2018)
A Gem. IGNORE the critics
So critics have debunked this film by saying it goes too far by making Pooh and chums real yet voting Shape of the Water an oscar winner because its a true fairy tale. Honestly critics have lost the plot in the last few years and are far too obsessed with being seen to be politically correct and not in actually doing their jobs. This film was everything i had hoped for from seeing the trailer months ago. As a 45 year old man who has been a Pooh fan since childhood. This hit all the right notes. The tears started during the opening montage and the laughs from the moment Eeyore opened his mouth. A gem for young and old but more so for the adults imo.
