Your Place or Mine (2023)
People say it's the chemistry, but really is just bad directing
This is what happens when you have an all-star talented cast, talented writing, but the directing and production is bad. What wasted opportunities Reese and Ashton to have scenes together. The movie could've had more backstory to show how they met and fell in love and not have everything so shadowy (perhaps the shadow was because they couldn't make 40 year old something to look like 20 year olds). It felt so rushed. Then they spend the rest of the movie on FaceTime or phone calls where they seem like they are annoyed but who really smiles that much on the phone when talking to their best friend? Then at the end they argue when they don't really seem all that mad really. I mean there's a small scene where Ashton seemed to have more chemistry with Shiri Appleby. Maybe it's because they were actually in the scene together? I gave this higher rating because of the supporting characters. Zoe Chao's Minka character was refreshing to see a female help her new friend Debbie get her mojo back. I also enjoyed the interaction with Peter (Ashton) and Debbie's son. It was disappointing that most of us signed up to see the chemistry between two popular rom com actors, but we never really got to see it. Maybe if Reese and Ashton have a redo in another movie where they actually have more scenes together, I will give them another chance. I guess I need to rewatch Sweet Home Alabama or No Strings Attached to help shake off this disappointment.
Disenchanted (2022)
Better than the first movie
I was pleasantly surprised at this movie, especially b/c of the bad reviews. I loved the first one and didn't understand how they could make a sequel. This movie was more of a musical, which I loved! It was a crime to not have Idina Menzel sing in the first movie but this sequel made up for it! Mostly had similarities to Cinderella but loved the clever references to other Disney movies, like Bambi, Lion King, Frozen, Tangled, etc. It really had a feel of classic Disney with both live action and animation well blended together. I could tell the actors had a lot of fun playing their characters. Beautiful costumes and sets and great songs. My daughters and I watched this movie twice already and will probably watch it many more times. I highly recommend this one!
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Haters just had expectations
The people that hated this movie came in with expectations. I intentionally didn't read spoilers and never read the comics. I was just happy to find out Jane was back. Loved the lightheartedness of this movie and how they incorporated the children as the Thor army. Was pleasantly surprised that the girl was Chris Hemsworth's real daughter and his sons also had small roles. Dad god suits him well. I'm tired of all the cliched dark superhero movies that only focus on the action. This one had a lot more heart and humor. It was just enjoyable to watch. Thor is just a lovable loof. Great chemistry onscreen with Jane and Thor. Great fun!
Hot Mess House (2020)
Finally! A show on HGTV that's not about real estate
Finally a show on HGTV that doesn't involve house hunting or center around renovating. This type of show that teaches people how to improve their space just by decluttering is something HGTV has been missing in their lineup. The second season has some renovations, but the main core of the show is about letting go of clutter and changing habits so that we can maintain organizing systems. I have also been a huge fan of Cas from her YouTube channel for years. So glad that she is making her mark on TV. She's such a natural. I hope they bring this back for more seasons.
How to Fall in Love (2012)
One of the best Hallmark movies
Chemistry between Annie and Harold is excellent. Writing is actually very good and not too cheesy. Even the supporting characters add good value (sometimes they don't really have meaning in these types of movies), like Kathy Najimy's character. The scenes between Annie and her sister are also relatable. Acting is very good, especially by Brooke D'Orsay. Wish she would do more Hallmark movies. Just a really sweet movie all around. My favorite Hallmark movie.
Chuck: Chuck Versus the Goodbye (2012)
The finale is perfect don't listen to the haters
I've watched the ending multiple times, and the more I watch it, the more I love it and think it was the perfect way to end the show. Those who hate the end just see the surface of the show and wanted everything to tie into a neat little bow. But that the end still had you wanting more and kept thinking about is what is so great about it. It really reminded me of The Notebook. It even made me think of the whole series in a different light, like what if the whole series is really just him telling her their stories. I've watched interviews about how they created this ending, with the Easter eggs referencing to the pilot, and the actors on the verge of tears (which I truly think wasn't all acting). You can tell how much love and care they really put into this show. I wouldn't change anything about the ending.
A Wrinkle in Time (2018)
Great movie on its own
Ignore the haters comparing this movie to the book or previous versions. Ignore the actual scientific facts of space overanalyzed by other haters. It's a fantasy, stop trying to make sense of it and use your imagination. I think this movie is great on its own and as a great movie for young minds having to deal with pressures of school and finding themselves. I found good themes of overcoming grief of a loved one, family togetherness and love, a child who is battling bullying in school and low self-esteem. I can see where the director was going with this movie and I enjoyed the ride!
