The Intern (I) (2015)
crinkly charm
13 October 2015
i liked "intern" and i can be a harsh critic at times but listening to the script and focusing on some detail do give this flick an interesting edge. Being old myself and retired (55) i can relate to the need to keep occupied and use my time well ,De Niro's character reflected those issues well by his routine and habits and genuine excitement at the prospect of being back in the roller coaster world of work. Ben has nothing to prove and is secure but obviously lonely and feels isolated ,even though he does have some unwanted attention..De Niro sets a nice tone with his well proved facial expressions and gradually becomes liked by his colleagues….the first few scenes convey the uncertainty of the young staff with an older person present….i think there is a message in this re culture and our need to keep moving on, forgetting the benefits of experience and old age ,doesn't just mean drooling and demise . The relationships Ben has with his colleagues is touching and meaningful ,leading to the advice that would otherwise be unavailable and the young staffs reliance on media for conversation and communication is challenged ! Hopefully, humans will not forget to speak one to one? Hathaway is slightly manic but absorbing and dedicated as a focused entrepreneur should be . The touches of emotion under pressure were presented well. Funny moments were regular, highly amusing but not frequent enough ….. but is new york devoid of black folk ,i think not ,so maybe in the casting should have chosen more wisely ,as black faces were few and generally in the background?….for such a low budget of 40m "intern" is watchable and moving and worth a punt, but don't expect visual mayhem just a gentle ride with moments of humour and charm?

Spy (2015)
9/10
spy gold not spy bomb
15 June 2015
excellent and very American /British spy film with great one liners and all actors played parts brilliantly and chemistry was obvious ….will have you laughing for days. lots of heavy language but fits in well as the jokes keep coming thick and fast to counterbalance. Fieg also directed Bridesmaids and has a long CV of quality comedy acting and producing under his belt. Byrn is superb as the manipulative, yet attractive and powerful Boyanov as her character and Macarthy keep the pace accelerating . Statham is having a ball playing Rick whom has had his arm ripped off and replaced by …his other arm ? Even Miranda Hart gets her man at the end? …..Aldo the Italian operative for CIA is genius " i learn my English from Downton abbey….or do i..??"…make sure you watch to the end ??

The Forger (2014)
nice film
19 April 2015
slow start but the pace does pick up , there are some nice touches and the characters do stir emotion and feeling…travolta uses his skills well to say few words bt the long silences speak volumes if ur willing to listen!….i guess he is using his own experience of loosing a son to convey the mood that would accompany such a tragic process for a parent and child ….plummer also plays his part as the long suffering yet slightly irreverent father to travolta ….tye sheridan is also well capable in his role as Will ,conveying adolescence and a heavy burden. Jennifer Ehle plays her character brilliantly as a disconnected drug addict mother reluctant to resolve her past. The film is also sensitive to the beauty of art and at the same time i guess the suffering that has accompanied some real artists whom have left us with a moment in history…The recipe of differing themes is well portrayed and nicely and sensitively edited ….as long as expectations are kept reasonable, as no mind blowing car chases occur or fantasy special effects …then this film is worth your time imo and may even stimulate a tear or two and the ending although fairly predicable is a nice conclusion and not over cooked … im sure but could be wrong that this Monet was or is in the cardiff museum in wales ?
