The Guest Book (2017)
It's like a hybrid of most of my favorite TV comedy series.
This series is like what would happen if the writers and some of the cast for "Raising Hope", "My Name Is Earl", "Community", and "Scrubs" all got together.
Murderville (2022)
If you like improv theater and "get it"...
Improv sitcom is like a game show. Even though some people win big, some lose big, and some are runners-up, you still watch. Improv comedy is like that for me and I think this is a great setup for that. Some of the guests have moments that even cause the cast to lose character. Sometimes, it's just funny to see how the cast runs with the guest's improv to move the story along or to get it back on course. Will Arnet's limited range of character is a great homage to the stereotypical detective characters of pulp murder mysteries of the past.
Scrooged (1988)
All of the things people hated about it are exactly why I like it..
There are plenty of renditions of this story that are merely the same movie featuring a different actor casted as Scrooge. This is a version that Murray owns and takes it to a level his fans expect and want from him. "Garish ...loud" stated one reviewer. Well yeah. That's what makes it work for me. Seriously? Bill Murray, Bobcat, Carol Cain? You were expecting a lullaby? I love all of the old versions, even the Muppets version with Michael Cain, but I have to have this between them and "A Christmas Story" and "Edward Scissorhands" to feel like I've had my Christmas playlist completed.
Chicago Party Aunt (2021)
Had to give a second chance..
The show almost lost me after the first episode. Maybe one or two things were funny the rest of it was just crude in the hopes of being funny. Second episode cruder than the first one but was actually funnier. Here in lies the problem with this series for me. Not consistent enough for my taste. I found it worked best for me as background while I was working in the shop and would occasionally catch the really funny parts. Most of the actors doing voices in the show are people that I really enjoy in their other endeavors. Oh and I knocked the point off for making fun of Led Zeppelin fans, lol.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Expectations from trailer crashed before the plane did.
Most of the film spent on mindless sexist...and weak attempts at non-sexist dialogue, between main character trapped in a WWII bomber's gun turret and flight crew. All this setting you up to think this is going to transition into an interesting horror movie with some intellect. But, the possible intellegent plot grabbed the only chute and bailed out of the plane and the movie about 20 minutes in. One of those films where you keep watching because you are expecting it to pull out of the nose-dive...but it doesn't and you're left with, "Damn, I spent $6 on this!"
Thunder Force (2021)
Hard to finish
The only reason to watch this from beginning to end is if you are die hard fans of Melissa and Octavia. The occasional belly-laugh is defused by some really useless silliness. Jason Bateman fans, DO NOT WATCH this unless you can immediately binge "Ozark" or " Arrested Development" when you begin to wish they would hurry and kill his character off.
There are some fun moments, like when Melissa and Octavia try to enter and exit their sleek superhero car...predictable but still funny. Unfortunately not a good vehicle for either of these two fine actresses. Hope they collaborate again on something more supportive of their talents.
Valentine's Day (2010)
A movie that cost us money.
It was management's bright idea to make this a Valentine's Day movie we showed at off theater. After expenses (licensing fees and staff hours) cost us several hundred dollars to show it, since only 23 people showed up.
Fatman (2020)
Hmmm...
I won't say I hated or didn't enjoy this movie, but as I sat through the full run of credits at the end my only thought was, "what?".
Tayna pechati drakona (2019)
Adjust your expectations.
After the initial distraction of the look and movement of the film, the obvious overdubbing made me realize what I was watching was more a traditional Kung Fu/Russian fantasy creation. This adjustment in my expectation of an American made Jackie Chan/Arnold movie helped me to enjoy it like an old Bruce Lee movie...with CGI. And always fun to catch Marty Klebba in a film. Don't watch this unless your a fan of old King Fu films and don't let things like bad dubbing, tangential story lines and predictable endings keep you from enjoying it.
