Dem Toi Ruc Ro! (2022)
a serious Knives Out!
I know director, Aaron Toronto pales at comparison to Knives Out, but a great referral point, the topic of how prevalent domestic violence is in asian culture goes largely uncommented upon, however that's the primary thrust of this film and does a fantastic job at stating it.
Brews Brothers (2020)
Uniquely terrible
That anyone remotely associated with The League had something to do with this dreck, makes me question whether it was a good show at all. The directing is uneven, the camera work is lazy and uninspired. This isnt even good Quaratine watch material.
The Flash: Kiss Kiss Breach Breach (2019)
While The Barry is away ... the show forgets what it is.
So the episode title is in reference to "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" a very smartly written and directed modern Noir detective story. And the director certainly swung for a Noir 'vibe' (pun not intended, but works) while the rest of the episode felt like it was both a Christian inspirational film with Lifetime holiday movie level dialog. This episode was upsetting as to how "filler" it was to make the episode order
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Ties with Transformers: The Last Knight with stepping on Arthurian Lore
This film was meant to be the first, in a King Arthur series, though due to poor box office returns and abysmal reviews, this is a one-and-done, black mark on the Legend of the British King of Lore. The film takes a major departure from the source material, Disney's animated version, is shockingly accurate at most points to how the original legend goes. Guy Ritchie plays fast and loose with all manner of historical fact and mythology. Ritchie struggles to recapture his early successes by shoddily recreating the quick cuts and asymmetrical storytelling of when Matthew Vaughn was his producer. The story is asinine, Charlie Hunnam does everything he can to show he can act (while handsome and physically fit, his acting isn't up to snuff to carry this movie) - Jude Law attempts to chew the scenery as a baddie with no reason, who has unnamed allies and is handled with much hand-waving. There are a few Game of Thrones cast that show up (Littlefinger and Roose Bolton do everything they can, but the film keeps taking on water) - I tried to stop watching, but steeled myself just to see how bad it gets and, by the very end, all i can say, is i'm glad it was only 2 hours and 6 minutes. rather than the standard 2:30 or longer that most Epic blockbusters tend to be. there is so little to this film, that even with all the montage sequences you'll find yourself scratching your head at the end. save yourself 2 hours or better yet watch Excalibur, or even the Disney Sword in the Stone.
