Casino Royale (2006)
Thank you Daniel Craig!! It has been a decade and this movie like a fine wine has aged well. It is official. Daniel Craig is Bond.
I was blown away when I saw this movie. I was still trying to get over Die Another Day. After seeing the far out and ridiculous situations from that movie and horrible writing, it was great to see Bond brought back down to Earth and seeing him starting his career instead of having an established one. The opening sequence reminded me of Dr.No with Sean Connery in his motel room and shooting the professor with 1 shot. Daniel kept his cool and he knew what he was doing. I loved it when he did his own stunts especially the foot chase and the scene at the airport. Those I couldn't see Roger Moore do. Daniel Craig brought back Bond the way he was meant to be. Sean Connery may have been the first but sorry Sean, you've been dethroned. Daniel has more range of an actor. I saw it when he lost Vesper. That was fantastic! You can see him show more dimensions that make him a real person. Even the torture scene shows that we weren't in the Pierce Brosnan era anymore. The villain was cool. He was a corrupt banker and not a super villain but his motives were great. Vesper reminded me a bit of Stacey from On Her Majesties' Secret Service. She was a great equal to Bond and committing suicide was what she had to do. Overall, this was a great start to the Danial Craig era. Sorry Sean but you have been dethroned. He is a Bond for my time. I'm glad to have seen it.
Welcome Back, Kotter (1975)
I grade this FF meaning Failure and Flunk
I can't believed I saw this one. Gabe Kaplan can't act and should have stuck to stand up. Immature, unfunny catchphrases and dialogue. It I wanted to see the Marx Brothers, I watched their classic movies and not have Kotter and the class doing impressions. John Travolta and the others made high school look stupid. Horseshack and his laugh were funny for a while but now, it hurts my ears when I hear it. This show was also sexist. The female characters weren't developed and were reduced to stereotypes. His wife would have a life outside the apartment and Helaine Lembeck was a very pretty woman and should have more to do. A TV classic? I don't think so. 40 years and it shows that it fails big time.
The Cosby Show (1984)
Happy Anniversary to the most overrated, mediocre worst show ever
Thirty years ago this show premiered about a successful family who happened to be African American. Looking at it now, it has aged well at all. It is average. Bill Cosby was funny doing stand up and his earlier show in which he played a single man and was a gym teacher was funnier. This one was average. I look at it now and saw I wasted those 8 years it was on. It was the most sexist show on television. I hated Claire. She was the most arrogant, stuck up, self rightgeous, smug woman I've ever seen. How Cliff stayed married with her was beyond. Why did Cosby allow male bashing on that show? That what it was. All the men were whipped and the women stomped over them. Not only Claire but Sondra and Rudy joined in. Tempest I liked. (The only episode I loved was the male pregnancy one and at least the women were more sympathetic.) Not all black people lived like this. I'm black and I know more black people who were more middle and lower class. Cosby should have address more reality like interracial dating which would have more interesting story lines. I'm glad I never want to appear on that show. If you want a good sitcom about an African American family, watch Blackish. Anthony Anderson is an actor who can be funny and serious. The mother is flawed and not perfect unlike Claire who thinks she is so perfect and that make me burn! Blackish explores racism which Cosby avoided. Even Family Matters was better until they focus too much on Urkle. So once again if you have the time, watch Blackish. I'll get the Cosby male pregnancy episode on DVD but that is all. After that, I never want to see this trash again.
Herbie Rides Again (1974)
This should be taken to the junk yard
If I could go back in time and live my all over again, I avoid this movie like a disease. I couldn't believe I wasted my time watching this. This was really cheap. The characters were unlikeable (except for Helen Hayes) and even Herbie had a mean streak. He wanted to push Keenan Wynn off the building. I couldn't believe it. Ken Berry was a wimp and Stephnie Powers was mean and cold. The effects were bad and the stunts were ridiculous and unbelievable. Herbie jumping from one building to another? Riding on the Golden Gate bridge on wires? And chasing the villain inside his own building? Come on!! As I said before, if I could go back in time, I avoid this garbage.
Blazing Saddles (1974)
40 years later and hasn't aged well
I saw this as a kid when it came out and it was my first R rated film. I laughed at it a lot but now when I look at it, time hasn't been kind to it. There are some chuckles but nothing is laugh out loud funny anymore. The only part I liked Mel Brooks in was the Indian chief but he got more obnoxious when he played the governor. He is best behind the camera. As I said before most of the jokes fall flat and some of the actors deserved better. Young Frankenstien also came out the same year and was better and funnier. Even Airplane was a million times better and I laughed more at that one than Blazing Saddles. Airplane ages better. I couldn't believe Blazing Saddles ranked higher than Airplane. Airplane should higher than Blazing Saddles. If you want to watch a great Mel Brooks movie, watch Young Frankenstien. Blazing Saddles is overrated.
