Hidden Strike (2023)
Just a generic action film with 2d characters and too much CGI
This was a terrible, generic, boring Chinese state propaganda movie under a thin veil of an action flick. I thought, Jackie Chan and John Cena, this has to be great right? Boy was I wrong. First off this was not the Jackie Chan we all love. This was a role for a generic, older actor playing an action role, it could have been anyone. None of his trademark comedy or over the top stunts, just pretty generic stuff. And John Cena has fully sold out to the Chinese state media machine, like completely. They tried to give his character some funny lines but it was stupid and fell totally flat. It was obvious that the writers have never written a funny line in their lives. Even though much of this movie was in english, I'm sure this wasn't made for an American audience. Maybe the bad dialog, propaganda, stupid plot and cartoon action scenes play better in China. Do not waste your time, both of these guys have been in much better films and shows.
Horizon Line (2020)
My head hurts
As a human this movie made my head hurt. As a pilot it gave me a migraine. I was just about to turn it off but then he wanted to go outside and I just had to watch more of this train wreck. I'm sure some people worked hard on this but oh my god, this was just ridiculous.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Never let the facts get in the way of a story
Engineers and physicists all over the world are collectively slapping their heads. I don't think there was a single technical advisor on this film or they were just completely ignored. This is about as scientifically accurate as the 50's Mars invasion movies. You have to have at least some science in your sci-fi movie. The only thing that got me through this was wanting to see how the story resolved even though I knew I was going to be disappointed. Just no.
Monsters: Dark Continent (2014)
Monsters: The Hurt Locker 2
Wow! Not a good wow, but just wow. I was really psyched to hear about a sequel to "Monsters" because that was such a great sci-fi movie but man, was I disappointed in this one. This was really just an anti-war movie and I think there was a message in there about the middle-east conflict but I couldn't be sure because there were so many confusing themes happening at the same time. The one thing this wasn't was a sci- fi movie about.....monsters. They could have edited out every monster scene and it would not have changed the movie one bit, I'm not kidding. If I had seen a pre-release copy that didn't have the special effects added in, I wouldn't have been confused about what was going on, at least no more than I am now. I'm sorry Tom Green but a swing and a miss.
