Camp Death III in 2D! (2018)
Camp Death III!! in 2D no less!!!
This movie, WOW what a blast!
Ok, take a blender and now mix these items into it:
1. Take one part Canadian humor (a lot of it!)
2. Mix in some Troma attitude
3. A nice mix of tributes, cliches, spoofs of 80s horror flicks (especially slashers)
4. Politically correctness! HA! Keep that out of the blender because this movie has none!!
5. Throw in the kitchen sink and blend it all together and you get:
CAMP DEATH III! In 2D!
This movie was an absolute blast to watch! I caught myself laughing out loud at the most inappropriate things and had no regrets over it as well. The movie itself is a nice tribute/homage/spoof of the classic "summer camp/sleepaway camp" slasher genre of the 80s, with all visible character tropes (and then some) that you come to expect. But the timing of the jokes, gags, over the top acting that would make Lloyd Kaufman smile with glee, the special effects that will either make you hurt or just bust up laughing...this movie is just a blast!
If you like to laugh, get a group of friends and go watch this!!!! I won't spoil anything, just be prepared for some of the craziest crap you'll see on the screen. This is why we need more independent movies, having the freedom to take risks and be as non pc and "mainstream" as possible.
GGG: One Night Stab (2013)
GGG: One Night Stab... Dark, Sick, Wild and importantly... VERY FUNNY!!!!
Sick, Dark, Twisted, Politically Incorrect...and most importantly very very funny and original!
Most stand ups lately have been the same, safe routines, but Mr. Gerald Gerald Geraldson has brought it with his own unique and twisted vision! Combining his unique stand up humor with horror and interaction with fans, with splices of vignettes/clips and even his "brother" made an appearance too, which all combined, were drop dead (pun intended) funny! It was great to see some cameos from well known internet personalities such as The Cine Masochist and even the guitar player from the great Canadian band Just Off The Grid made for some great laughs! Gerald is fearless and his love of everything horror made great entertainment for the night!
The use of black and white was a great look and a grand tribute to club stand ups, Carnival of Souls/Night of the Living Dead/Found footage and etc, it fit the stand up perfectly, as well as the atmosphere set by the fans and most importantly Gerald! Which in my opinion, is a true test of a entertainer to succeed on his own merits and Gerald has proved that he could!
I have been following Gerald Gerald Geraldson for about a year now and to see that he got a stand up special (on Halloween no less!) and to hear the laughter and gasps was fantastic! It is sure to be hit with many!
If you are a horror fan or just in general a movie fan, then you will love some of his references! I highly recommend Gerald Gerald Geraldson for those who love to have a great laugh, clap your hands, slap your knee, gasp in shock and have your jaw drop due to laughter...and terror!
I will be attending some Gerald Gerald Geraldson's stand ups or specials in both Canada and America hopefully soon, this stand up special makes me want to go sooner than later!!
Punisher: War Zone (2008)
Hands Down one of the Best Punisher adaption, and one of the best comic movies ever!
Just got back from this tonight and I was not disappointed! This is a better adaption then the 2004 version and 1989 version. For me, Ray Stevenson is THE PUNISHER!!!!I like Dolph and Tom's interpretation are good (though Tom Jane's performance is more of a Taxi Driver character then a Punisher), Stevenson was the best and showed a wider range of emotion, a great voice, fighting, guns, and all together look and feel of Frank Castle.
This is one of the best adaption of a comic in a long time, the back story for Frank Castle was right on target and though Jigsaw's origin is modified its a better origin. The casting for all characters was great (way to go Wayne for Microchip and Dominic for Jigsaw). Everyone fit perfect.
The story for the movie felt like a comic book, as The Punisher takes out criminals and how Jigsaw and his brother Looney Bin Jim wants revenge makes for great entertainment. But I do not want to spoil anything for moviegoers, if you enjoy comics, action, or revenge movies, check this one out.
For all the people who reviewed this movie and either bitch about the violence or didn't like this incarnation of The Punisher had no idea about the character nor even read the comic book or didn't start reading until after the 2004 version. So this is a great tribute to almost all incarnation of the Punisher in the comics and even a nod to the 1989 version too.
Though I like all the Punisher movies, I liked the 1989 version better then 2004 version, I think this is better then the 1989 and best adaption (it may seem like a broken record, but I feel it is necessary).
By all mean check out one of the best action and comic book movie in a long time. This brings back what action should be like. I too hope this will have a good box office return, as well for rentals and sales to bring more sequels! The producers are already in talks in for more and Barricuda could be the next villain!
Way to go Lexi and Ray and everybody involved working on this film, thank you for bringing back the PUNISHER!!!
The Ultimate Warrior (1975)
The Ultimate Warrior is a great under rated classic from the 70s
This was a great movie!!!Yul Brynner plays just a bad ass as usual, Max Von Sydow acted real well, and William Smith was cast perfect as the villain. The set was designed to perfection as a post apocalyptic world would be seen. The music was done very well by Gil Melle and still holds today. The costumes fit a lot of people for this type of movie but some just didn't look raggedy enough, but the acting makes up for it as well as the violence. The fight scenes were done well, remember folks this was directed by Robert Clouse of "Enter The Dragon" fame as well for other exploitation films. This is probably his best besides "Enter The Dragon"; just do to it's atmosphere and the way it was filmed. I thought Brynner showed off some cool fighting techniques as well as knife fighting. But yet people complain that there wasn't enough or it wasn't flashy or lots of kicks like Bruce Lee (RIP)would have done it. Remember not all martial arts are flashy or scientific, some are just nitty gritty street fighting techniques or survival, not all are for show. Also remember for movie to be done well, there must be a story and doesn't always has to revolve a guy kicking and showing off his martial arts talent. I thought Brynner was a great fighter, showing a different style of fighter consenting of holds, throws, punches, knees, and slashing. He wasn't trained full time like Bruce but he pulls off the fights with enough charisma. The best thing to remember is that Yul Brynner is not Bruce Lee and Bruce Lee is no Yul Brynner either.
The story and fight scenes were balanced just right where one didn't over take the other. But anyways here what the story is about. New York 2012, the world has gone down the crapper and a plague as wiped out the food supply. The Baron (Von Sydow) and a couple of survivors developed seeds that are resistant against the plague. But Carrot (Smith, just a cool baddie) and his boys are causing some havoc of sorts and the Baron enlist the help of "the Ultimate Warrior" Carson (Brynner, in the first minutes of the film is shown standing in front of the library square for two days meditating while standing, very atmospheric) to help transport the seeds to a island of the coast of North Carolina with his pregnant daughter Melinda (Joanna Miles, giving a really good performance). Then this eventually leads to a showdown between Carson and Carrot in the New York Subways.
To wrap up this review, this was a great entertaining movie from the 70s that somewhat helped jump start a film genre that still remains today...the post apocalyptic, as well for the martial art post apocalyptic one as well. Rent it then buy it if you like it and hopefully it will be out on DVD in widescreen and with goodies. Also try to find the novelization of this movie, it is one of the better novelization of a movie and goes into detail as well for emotions, fights, the city in general and the nitty gritty. Before I start rambling on again just watch this underrated classic!Peace!
I also recommend Mad Max Trilogy, Steel Dawn, Cyborg, Escape from NY and LA
Cyborg (1989)
Cyborg..one of the best Sci-Fi/ Martial Arts movie ever made and one of Albert Pyun's finest achievements
This is one of the very first movies I have seen and It is one of my all time favorites. Awesome display of martial arts with some gritty violence involved as well, great cinematography, good atmosphere, special effects were good for its time and budget (only a $2 million dollar budget), awesome Post Apocalyptic setting, and the editing was played out smoothed, and good acting (for the setting) and characters.
Albert Pyun in my opinion is one of the most underrated directors in film. Here are my reasons why, he was an apprentice to Akira Kursawa, and he is a Sergio Leone fan and you can see it his impact in Pyun's, and Pyun can do film-making in away that he doesn't need huge budgets and expensive actors. Pyun was also inspired by Sam Peckinpah and John Woo (during the 90s). That is why I feel that he is underrated and not just a hack or a rip off.
Anyways the basic story of this great movie is that Gibson Rickenbacker (Jean-Claude Van Damme, one of the coolest martial artist to grace the silver screen besides Bruce Lee, Sonny Chiba, and so many other)a drifter and a former salinger (protector, samurai, escort service, and pirate fighter) must rescue a cyborg that has a cure for the plague in the Post Apocalyptic world and fight the pirates led by Fender Tremolo (Played by Vincent Klyn, former champion in surfing and one of the meanest villains to appear in a movie) who have the cyborg and Fender also killed the family that Gibson became involved with a couple years earlier which is shown in flashbacks.
This movie has one of the most realistic and amazing fights scenes ever captured on film, they were just simply awesome. The acting was good but many critics and audience members complained that Van Damme doesn't say much and a lot of the villains were screaming and grunting like animals. That was the whole idea, Van Damme was suppose to play the whole silent man with no-name character and the villains were suppose to represent what the people have come down to... savages. Some visuals were just poetry like Kursawa and Leone would have presented and the camera angles were just right, the music was good for being 80s.
Like I said in my earlier reviews rent the movie before buying it, do it for sure this movie,I saw part of this movie on TV when I was really young and I was amazed by the action and martial arts and this what got me hooked on the martial arts and then I saw it again because I saw a story being covered on Dateline about Van Damme accidentally hurting an actor during filming and then I rented it and then I received it for present just recently (one of best presents ever) and the rest is history. I just wish that the MPAA wouldn't had got a hold of it and I hope soon that a Director's Cut come soon.
If you enjoy this movie I also recommend 'Steel Dawn' and the 'Mad Max' trilogy.
The Master Gunfighter (1975)
Very under-rated Western/Samurai masterpiece from the Laughlin Family.
Great music score, great scenery, interesting camera angles, good atmosphere(especially during the showdown moments),good to decent acting and gun/sword fighting and awesome cinematography. Whatelse can I say about the 'Master Gunfighter', it is a very entertaining Hybrid/Anti-western movie only Tom Laughlin and the crew could bring. Sure some of the movie elements could have been better like some of the editing (which wasn't that bad but could've been better) and some parts from the novelization of the movie should have been in the movie to explain some scenes better but all in all it is a really entertaining blend of Spaghetti western, samurai, and Tom Laughlin.
The story revolves around Finely (Tom Laughlin, one of the coolest figures in motion picture history) a guilt tripped gunfighter and swordsman who witnessed a massacre of a peaceful coastal Native Americans by his brother-in-law and lifetime friend Don Paulo (Ron O'Neil, thats right Priest from 'Superfly') and his goons. Finely leaves but returns three years later when Paulo plains to do it again. This is where the gun play and samurai sword comes into play. Both Laughlin and O'Neil have a six chambered, double action pistol almost like a LeMot and a Samurai sword.
A lot of critics and people complain about the peace through violence or redemption through revenge method but "To expect peace, prepare for war"-(Tom Jane,THE PUNISHER). Either that or they complained that it is too much like Billy Jack or not enough like Billy Jack, this movie was never meant to be a 'Billy Jack' movie.
But I would suggest renting or borrowing the DVD, watch the movie and the special features to learn about the movie even more, it is actually quite interesting when I watch the interviews with the cast and crew. But if you are a western, samurai,Tom Laughlin, or just a 70s cinema fan then you should pretty much buy the movie. But everyone has their own opinions so I would say rent before buy.
The story was adapted from an 1969 samurai flick called 'Goyokin' and this movie alone was only made on a budget 3.5 million of the Laughlins' own money and it is better than most movie with 10 times it budget.
I also recommend 'Red Sun' or the legendary TV series 'Kung Fu'.
