Yawn

At this rate the 5th Fantastic Beasts movie will be sweeping the Razzies!

When I can out of the theatre it felt like I watched a 4 hour long movie and had to double check the correct length. How can you make magic soo boring, it is just beyond me.

I was one of the fiercest defenders of the first film. This third instalment at least allowed it so that I don't have to defend it anymore. The Secrets of Dumbledore makes the first Fantastic Beasts movie look like Prisoner of Azkaban.

Bonkers

I'm telling everyone this is Multiverse of Madness!

But seriously, what a simple story shinning through a bursting-through-the-seams concept. When you settle down from all the trippy visuals and shinny lights, the crux of the story carried by the two amazing central ladies is what a movie's really supposed to be.

The concept of storytelling is there to complement the story and not the other way around. And frankly, this movie needs to be seen because no way of explaining it by memory to someone who hasn't seen it wouldn't do the film justice.

Love it or hate it, just go and see it for yourself. I promise you don't want to miss this one and see it later on a phone inside your room. Let the visuals and the loud sounds wash over you inside a sparsely populated theatre because this one will stay with you for a long time.

Explosions, jarring camera shots...Michael Bay
17 March 2022
Weird angles, low shots, crane shots, jib shots, drone shots, all of that is combined to form a by-the-books Michael Bay flick. I watched this film during a special premiere in Tallinn and it was way better than expected.

The only reason I bought a ticket was to see Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Jake Gyllenhal. There was really no expectation for me going in and then the LA scene started and it felt like I was watching a Bay Boys movies. I get that Bad Boys was based in Florida, but Michael Bay captured the same all-sun hot and fast vibe.

There is not much in terms of a coherent plot. But who cares at this point. You chose to watch a Michael Bay movie. It doesn't make sense? Well nothing by the director has made sense since the 90s. It is all explosive fun.

If you have seen enough Michael Bay movies by now you already know the dizzying circular shots are coming, same camera angles and clips are going to be repeated, but this is certainly one of Mr. Bay's watchable works.

Even as you will be scratching your head why all this is happening the rapid pace just takes you. The best comp I have is Unstoppable starring Chris Pine and Denzel Washington. Not the same level of stakes or execution or suspense or great. But heart pounding nonetheless.

If you like Michael Bay's work, then give this a go. Others who may come in expecting bigger and better things, maybe stay away. This is a action vehicle (literally) so just enjoy it as one no need for a thinking cap on this one.

Expectations
28 February 2022
I have waited for this show a while now.

With an exceptional cast, Uma Thurman is yet to show her face, there should be better things ahead.

And I understand it is just the first episode and Tarantino is the narrater and the show is headed down a less descriptive and comedic version of Big Short, but either the graphics needs to improve or the narrative element itself.

Comparing this show with with something on TV right now, I was getting a lot Succession season 1 episode 1 vibe, hoping for similar level of improvement with subsequent episodes.

Color me intrigued!

While the similarity with The Blacklist cannot be understated or even unwarranted. I have to say Morena Baccarin's presence on screen is worth the 2-4 episodes worth of rope I'm willing to give this show.

Let's see where it goes and right now I cannot wait to hear another story from Elena Federova.

I don't get these people
19 December 2017
Just got back from the Last Jedi show! Wow! Just wow!

The people will try and tell you that they "fundamentally disagree" with all the things that happen with luke. But, this is what character arc is. Frankly, I've never liked luke but wow did this movie turn my feelings!

People were clamouring for a new sort of Star Wars movie and it is here, not just a rehash of the past films, but a new stand alone movie and i can tell you right now that this movie will stand the test of time.

I am not the "Empire" fan i am "a new hope" guy and the charater arc that luke gets is thoroughly satisfying. Don't listen to all those idiots who claim to want a new film but can't let go of the past. Go watch it for yourself and get your own opinion!

For me, without a doubt, this is the best movie of the year! And the more I think of it, the more I fall in love with it! Loved the last jedi, just loved it!

Great!
25 March 2017
I have to admit, I have never watched the animated movie. When Disney said they were making a live action version with Emma Watson and Dan Stevens, I was on board. I don't know really why I've never watched the animated version but watching this movie was a great experience.

I just can't get that song out of my head. I was humming it after the movie was over and all the way to my home. I am playing that song on a loop right now.

The movie was great, Emma Watson was awesome and the beast was really good. Every voice actors from Emma Thompson to Ian McKellen were good. The way this movie is made, it will appeal to all the demography...old and young.

Even though you know what is coming next, you are still attentive. The actors and the production have that hold on you. The sets were huge and the production design was top notch.

I loved it. It was a fun Saturday!

Just became my joint 1st No. 1 movie
24 March 2017
I loved this movie! As much as I love Taxi Driver! A story so great, it had me at the edge of my seat from the beginning. Amy Adams receives a package and inside it is a book my her ex husband dedicated to her. As she settles down and starts reading the book a harrowing, scary, cringeworthy story starts taking shape.

The great thing about this movie is that you can connect with these characters and sympathize, and hate them. Two overlapping story takes place in this movie and the director does a great job weaving it together.

Jake Gyllenhal-the man who can make any movie good. Give him a good story and he will make it a earth shattering experience as he has done time and over again. I don't need to say how good he was in Nightcrawler or Prisoners or Enemy or even Southpaw. Southpaw was an average story but Jake made it a great movie. I have been a fan of this man for a long time and I have made it a habit to watch anything he does. Amy Adams is equally interesting, she carries herself well as we have come to expect that from her. She shows a vulnerability and cold hearted side of the character which makes it even more attention grabbing. Let's got the reason why I'm here....MICHAEL SHANNON-the greatest character actor to have ever graced the silver screen. I am in awe of this man, the way he makes me hate him and love him at the same time. 99 Homes, Midnight Special, Mud, Boardwalk Empire...they are just some of the greatest acted movies ever. So, Michael Shannon- thanks!

Just go watch it...it's great!

Old western with claws!
18 March 2017
I was among the people who hated X-Men Origins Wolverine. But I was thoroughly enjoyed by The Wolverine. So, here we are with the third part which is better than almost all X-Men movies!

Let's start at the beginning, like said in the trailers, mutants are gone. So, we have Logan and Charles. And from first scene you know what type of movie this is going to be.

I have to say this though, the version of movie that was screened here in Nepal was cut in different places that amount to about 4 minutes in cuts and muted dialogues.

Even then the movie that I saw was, simply put, awesome. Logan is old and Charles is not that healthy either and their quiet, secluded live is turned upside down when a young girl shows up to their doorstep. And that's it, we have ourselves a road movie.

The cinematography is amazing...expected coming from a guy who shot Gladiator. The direction is good and the story is compelling. Not your average bang em up superhero movie.

Hugh Jackman as his last turn as the Wolverine does a believable job and everyone expects Patrick Stewart to do a great job, so no surprises there. But the real surprise is the child actor, the girl who show up at Logan's door step. Without speaking for much of the movie she does a great job of holding her own among these titans.

All I have to say now is you will believe, you will be surprised and you will be entertained. So, go watch it right now!

You get your money's worth!
18 March 2017
I will admit I was a little skeptical when I first heard about this movie. The whole franchise building thing hasn't worked out well for most studios and frankly the last Godzilla movie was a bit of a dud except for the final act.

So, I went to this movie with a little hope of it being any good. And when the movie started I was surprised!

I don't think most people will appreciate the human characters because we are not in the theatre to see them, and Tom Hiddleston's English accent is a little distracting. I also didn't know why a Oscar winning actress would want to play a character so thinly written. She is there just so there can be a girl among all the guys. She held her own though, with what she had been given.

But let just get to the good part, the hero of this movie is the cinematographer. The scale presented in this movie was outstanding. There is scene where Sam L Jackson is looking at Kong and the camera goes behind his head just to show the difference in scale and size. Each frame was brilliant, the helicopter shots were awesome, and the King fight scenes were better that that of Godzilla!

In the end, I had a lot of fun with this one...the movie was funny and commanding. The run time could have been shorter but King Kong beating the hell out of "stuff" made up for it!

A come down from the first one!
24 February 2017
I was turned towards the first movie by my brother. He was going ape sh*t over the first movie, and since I made him watch 'Taxi Driver'. It was only fair that I watched it, and to tell you the truth-I liked it. It was fast, funny and thoughtful, and the characters were interesting. The movie was filled with memorable lines and fast dialogues, and I had a blast!

But this one, after almost 5 years' gap, comes out and it cannot help but feel like a cash in of all the goodwill the first movie earned. It is slow and i can't remember one stand out moment in all of it's run time. There is just whole lot of running going on and the characters which were interesting the first time around, just feel like weak caricatures of their characters.

A movie which has earned it's place in the history of Nepali cinema. A movie which was such a game changer for Nepali cinema. A movie which captured the zeitgeist of that time deserved a better follow up.
