Arizona (2018)
Illogical
Wow. I didn't understand if the illogicality was intentional or not but it ruined the film.
The mum and daughter were made out to be really stupid. Why didn't they ever tackle him and take his gun away and shoot him in the leg or something when his back was bad? They could have so easily taken control. And they never did.
Also in the film everyone was unconscious with only one hit in/over the head yet when the mother hit Sonny with the shovel, he stayed awake. Just so conveniently for the unintelligent story.
Another illogical part was when the two women were running away from him after the grave digging. Why did they look like they were jogging for fun? If your life is in immediate danger you book it! Really book it! You do not stop to whine about your ankle cause if your survival instincts kick in you don't even feel your ankle, especially when it's not even hurt that bad and you can keep jogging for fun in a minute.
More illogicality: why in the world did the mum and daughter go into the tube thing when they were escaping? It is the most obvious place to hide and the man so obviously is gonna find them there.
Illogicality: The whole neighbourhood looks dark with only one house lit up. Why in the world does the couple hide in a place that so painfully stays out and they can be caught extremely easily? It is utter idiocy! Again! Besides later the old man came out of his house fully clothed, meaning he was awake and his house was most definitely lit up. Why did the mum and kid stay in the house where there was no one there when they could have gone to the next house to get help?
Illogical: The killer obviously saw the dad came with a lady. He so obviously acknowledged the dad's killing. He only shoots once and kills the dad. Why was the lady in the car never killed then and there? He didn't even acknowledge her in there. And he was talking about how he's gonna get away with it when he leaves a witness.
Illogical: The lady in the car had no reason whatsoever to back up the car. It was the most random and useless thing and served only the sad purpose of setting the house on fire.
Illogical: Mother runs into a burning house and closes the door to hide with her daughter in there.
Just bad: Yeah the car blew up but the killer had no idea the lady could have escaped the car and called the police. And there obviously was police as by the end of the movie you could hear sirens. There is no way just the ambulance came. And fire department/rescue could have handled the man too.
All in all, it was just painfully illogical, all of it. The story was bad as situations and characters didn't tie into the story, they just happened conveniently for the story but had no place in the story.
The only good parts of scenes were the wedding ring part at the start as Sonny was gonnalet the mum go and then the end when he was pushed down cause the mum knew the houses. But in general this whole real estate talk again, didn't tie into the story too eventhough it was all over the place. It was just sounded more technical, like a real estate documentary and it didn't sit well in this illogical made up killer story.
And another thing about US movies... as seen in this film people can be knocked out with just one hit in the head. This is a very common thing in US movies. But for some reason when people get shot, they can do the whole final battle and the rest of the film like nothing's wrong. US/Hollywood has got it really messed up. Guns are toys but don't hit people in the head, you might hurt them?
Bad Moms (2016)
Zero female energy
This is such an embarrassing movie.
It is so unbearably pretentious. It's basically a high school teen movie in mum format.
Every dialogue in it was desperate for the public's approval, the public being dumb, modern feminists with pseudoproblems. The writers are male and it shows in every way possible. There is actually nothing in it that females, mums, can relate to. Unless they're generation z females who as mentioned before are modern feminists with pseudoproblems, like free bleeding and being judged on their instagram account. They have zero human essence and are all about buzzwords, much like this movie.
The dialogues really were the worst thing ever. It was just such painful cliche, every single word they said. Women, mums do not say things or act like that. They had put the words of teenage boys or immature men into mums. It was just unbearable.
And then the characters and the plot - wow, a bunch of mean girls, the "underdog" in the form of a rebel who thinks she's special cause she doesn't go along with what is presented as the majority in the film. And then the pathetic hot guy. I still feel major second hand embarrassment over how the "mean girls" were all hot for him and the dude went for the "underdog" like in a true american teen romcom.
Everything about the film was just so wrong. The mums actually WERE bad and not because they were following the majority at the start or cause they were rebelling against it, the writers just have zero clue about being a mum and how mums feel about kids and handle them. It felt like the writers had been brought up by single dad and they were gay themselves, never had any female contact.
There was zero female energy in the film. Majorly cringeworthy.
Plus the film itself failed in the plot too. At the start they're saying how the have those "mum dreams" and yet what gets them all popular and their plan into motion is some stupid male frat party type of event.
I just cannot believe how embarrassed I still am after watching the film. It is just cringeworthy.
I would have given it only one star but I like the actress Kathryn Hahn. I didn't like her character just like all the rest but I like her in general. So, she gets a point.
The Bounce Back (2016)
Abs overload
I don't even know where to start. I saw the film about a week ago and thought of writing a review right after but thought I'd be too harsh so I waited in hopes to feel more positive about it. I don't.
I can't say there was anything in the movie that I liked. Maybe the daughter character/actress. She was the most sincere thing in it. Now onto the things I didn't like, aka basically the whole thing.
1. I feel like this was made just to show off Moore's abs. Like, he is likable to me and he's handsome in a way but please!!! enough with the ab talk and how gorgeous he is. It would have been just as dumb if they had put in a fake boobed woman and then throughout the film keep mentioning how amazing her tatas are. So it was basically like a porn movie without the sex. No story, just showing off a person's body and heavily foucsing on mentioning how hot they are without any point to it whatsoever.
2. The lead female character was so unlikable. She was an angry mess and should never go anywhere near psychology or patients in need of psychotherapy. She can drive you insane all on her own. She was just nasty, unpleasant, unlikable, unstable, erratic... just horrible. There was no way to connect to her at all. She was made to look un-connectable too. Just a cute face or something. A nasty cute face character.
3. Now I don't exactly know what pills she took when she was about to get it on with the lead male but that's when I really lost hope for the film. They looked to be meds not illicit drugs and the ignorance was unbearable in the bed scene while she was drugged. You in no way shape or form start acting drunk when on those kinda meds and you never have a hangover/amnesia type of thing aftwerwards. It was so embarrassingly ignorant. It's horrifying how the writers, director and actress herself didn't know about this kind of thing. No research of any kind. It takes away from the credibility, depth and essence of the film. It's just random nothingness.
4. The film was just so shallow, mostly cause it was focusing heavily on Moore's appearance, it was impossible to connect to it emotionally. It was just showy. Showing off abs. How can one make a real emotional connection with abs!?
5.The girlfriends in the film were just useless characters. No depth no anything.
6. Moore's sad faces didn't really work that well either cause they were over shadowed by his abs.
7. Moore's speeches about love and life didn't work either cause they were over shadowed by everyone ooh'ing and aah'ing over his abs.
8. Okay, one little thing that was almost good was the rib bar scene where they owned each other with their agendas. If the whole film had been of the same level of that scene it would have been "fine" but right now, everything else was so much weaker.
9. The male lead's friend was supposed to be the comedic part I guess. The guy had potential and he peaked within the low standards of the film. I'd definitely watch him in something good. All the other characters were so empty and forgettable, the friend too but he stood out a little.
All in all, a waste of resources. Everyone who wasn't part of writing this thing, I feel bad for cause I know I wouldn't want this poor thing attached to my CV. I hope they can all do better than this.
I'd give it a 1 but for the daughter and friend character, I'll give both of them half a point so the total is 2 stars.
Overboard (2018)
Westernized telenovela
During the film I kept thinking the man was very spineless. As the film kept going I realized more and more it was very much like the telenovelas, absurdly ridiculous and senseless.
But about the last 30 minutes or so, from when the truth came out, I felt like everything made sense. So what if it was like a telenovela, it was very heartfelt and good.
I gave it a ten star rating cause of the heartbreaking daughters' scene. That bike bit broke my heart. This is literally the most heartbreaking scene I've seen in my life. I've seen sadder films, I've seen better films but nothing will ever come close to the bike bit.
Also, I liked the dingy bit at the end, how the man in it piped up too about the money business. It wasn't just stupidly romantic or anything, added common sense in a comedic way.
I just wish the man had had a little more spine though. And I felt like Anna Faris was a little boring or monotone in it.
The oldest daughter character was my favourite.
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
No Walk The Line but good music with an interesting, otherworldly character
I saw a lot of similarities with Johnny Cash's story in Walk The Line. I just kept comparing those two throughout the film. Now, I like Queen's music more but I felt Walk The Line was a better film. I felt like Bohemian Rhapsody focused too much of him being a star, a diva and it was just unfimiliar and unrelatable. There wasn't the kinda human connection I had with Walk The Line eventhough the stories were similar. But the music scenes were done nicely. I felt like standing up, clapping, dancing and singing along but being from a withdrawn, reserved country I sat still not to annoy anyone, going crazy all by myself. Maybe others would have followed, who knows.
I liked the wittiness of Mercury and as I mentioned the diva parts, they were done well too but there wasn't that much of him as just a person.
Also eventhough it was said in the film that Queen wasn't just him, it was all of the members then the film really heavily focused on Mercury only. I get it, it was his story but, I felt the other members and people were just, not even playing the second fiddle, but like the 12th fiddle. I found it like moment-breaking, kinda illusion breaking when the camera was showing the people's faces reacting to the things Mercury did and said in the film. It made the other people really dependant on him and with the band members it really was like the 12th fiddle thing. Like only their opnions of the lead singer mattered and they were not people/musicians of their own. Those frames/scenes looked a bit like something out of some cheap, not so good American 90s comedies or something.
But big love to Rami Malek. I haven't really seen Mercury's interviews or anything but whether Malek did a good impersonation of him or not, he played the part fantastically.
Also, from the scene where Mercury and his lady had the gay talk onwards, my mum blubbed uncontrollably til the end. I didn't hear anyone else blowing their nose. The woman on my other side wiped her face once.
I didn't feel like crying once cause I didn't have the emotional, human connection but it was enjoyable.
Also, I haven't followed the promo for this film but I was so confused and shocked as to why Show Must Go On Wasn't played. It is SUCH a hit so... why not!?
