Kirmizi Oda (2020)
Eye-opening and ground-breaking.
This show shines a new light onto many relatable issues within our society with an approach that has never been seen before in Turkish TV. It focuses on personal stories of these patients and their unique problems. The show does not attempt to give a 'one-fits-all' approach to the issues experiences within a Turkish society. All of the stories are authentic and are approached with a completely neutral perspective where patients are treated with respect. This shows generally promotes the idea that understanding and love for oneself is the way to get over past traumas and lead the way for better mental health. The main character, the doctor, does a pretty good job of providing this understanding and love for her patients. Although, I do understand how her 'therapy' is very unconventional and does not align with Western ideas of 'therapy', it does provide a completely new perspective, one which must not be dismissed due to it's lack of scientific support. Everyone responds to therapy differently and this method should not be criticised as it could be the most suitable method for this specific culture. Instead of focusing on such minor technicalities, I encourage viewers to indulge in the beautiful storytelling and the intense emotions portrayed by incredible actors. By doing this, like many other viewers, you may come across a story you really relate to and therefore try to navigate your own healing with the help of the characters in the show. Enjoy.
Seaspiracy (2021)
opened my eyes and could open yours too!
For so long I had been looking into our destruction of nature and the part I played in it. From research I realised animal agriculture was one of the leading causes of climate change. However, most of the research I found revolved around on-land farming of chickens, cows, pigs, sheep etc. So I became a vegetarian who occasionally ate fish because fish weren't so bad right?
Wrong. So so wrong.
What I had failed to see, what organisations and charities had failed to tell me, and what big cooperations were hiding from me was the true consequences that the fishing industry had on our climate.
From pushing species to extinction to killing dolphins to account for the overfishing around the globe; I was shocked. This documentary does a brilliant job of highlighting all the different issues around fishing: the problems, who is causing them, who is hiding them, who is profiting from them, what tricks are they using to make us believe them, what possible solutions there are.
This documentary will open your eyes to a worldwide industry that has blinded us and tricked us for years. Once you realise the truth behind the marketing plots and the secrets behind hidden doors, you won't be able to look at the fish industry the same.
Thankfully this documentary also provides a very clear answer to all of these problems. Watch till the end.
