Marco Polo (2014)
Inferior imitation
The story-line and presentation lack depth, however, not theatricality.
Enjoyable and entertaining (in the usual deficient/cheap Hollywood style), and that only up to a point.
Could have benefited from improved timing, shot angle and framing, as well as, more authentic acting and dress of the principal actors. The "sea of soldiers" is but a couple of hundred actors for the main battle scene. A deficient number, unless you use your imagination of what really must have looked like. The main set lacks in grandeur and authenticity.
Also, the movie doesn't come close to the older, and by far superior, Italian (1982) production (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083446/).
Marco Polo (1982)
Still the greatest!
The 'original' is still the better presentation of the life of Marco Polo, so far.
Although, a dated production, it benefits from having a large crew, well known and skilled principal actors, lavish sets and dress. The story-line is presented with more accuracy and in a coherent manner, as compared to other Marco Polo films.
The latest Netflix/Winestein 2014 production is a low-budget action film, that lacks in many respects, especially, accuracy and presentation.
Reviewing the Italian 1982 production should be a must for all Marco Polo fans.
