Joy (2015)
Never again
Too much drama, I was so anxious around this family holy cow! Why is everyone in Joy's life awful and foolish? Her father doesn't run his own business, her sister is rude and condescending, the ex-husband is only there for moral support because he does NOTHING. Is this how families are?
And WHY was Bradley Cooper in this film? Because the director wanted him to be there. His character was unnecessary.
I loved the ending partly because of what a BOSS Joy is and Jennifer Lawrence is very good at acting confident. And the other part of me was just glad it was over.
Ricki and the Flash (2015)
Cringed at LEAST 75% of the movie
I love Meryl Streep and I have been wanting to see this movie since watching the trailer. Finally got around to it, and this movie is a MESS. Had Meryl's character (Ricki) been a man, this would have been a heartwarming movie about trying to get back into your kids' good graces after leaving years before. In a way, this movie is just that, but the awkwardness of being a poor wannabe rock star going to see their well- off relatives and being more than welcome with talking about their finances, just made me gag the whole time.
I get that they were going for "I had a DREAM and it just doesn't pay the bills, but it's okay I'll just joke about it!" sort of view but I am already uncomfortable when my relatives ask for money, I don't want to watch OTHER people's relatives do the same thing. Too real.
I enjoyed Julie's lines the whole time, she's sassy and funny, I dig it.
Pay the Ghost (2015)
Not bad at all!
It's pretty generic "lost my son! someone believe me supernatural forces are at work! i'll go get him myself!" plot. The acting was well done. It wasn't super annoying (if you watched the Last Witch Hunter, it's that sort of quality of writing and acting but the CGI was worse in pay the ghost) Very predictable dialogue and storyline, but I am a fan of horror movies that aren't super gory or too much thriller or jump scares out of nowhere so this was PERFECT for me! I recommend entirely! I like Nic Cage movies and this is another one of his better films. I just like it when he's a dad and not a treasure hunter. I think he's getting to that age that he can't play the dad of young children anymore. He looks over 50!
