A Gray State (2017)
SPOILERS SPOILERS
I never heard of this film or of the filmaker in the documentary. I saw the title on Netflix and watched it one day after work. The documentary itself was good. The subject matter was interesting. It was no murder mystery. The mystery is why did it happen. The mystery is what heppened to this man and why did the wife go into the rabbit hole with him. I never understand murder suicides and to kill your child, and wife then yourself is unrelateable to me. Especially writing in your wifes blood. Like I said it was a good dicumentary.
Tony Robbins: I Am Not Your Guru (2016)
WTF It's like church without religion.
I give it a 2 because it was entertaining at first. The suicidal guy lifted up, cool scene, entertaining. Tony saying the F word, shocking and funny. Learning that they paid $4,000 per ticket? Wow. The man can speak, he can make them cry, he can make you think positive but he can't possibly cure your issues. The woman made to break up on the phone with her boyfriend, lol funny and weird. talk about pressure. Hey it's those peoples money and they can spend it how they want but less than halfway through, it got old. Netflix brought me here. I don't think it was investigative enough or showed the bad side. Tony has been around forever though, he knows how to hustle that is for sure.
Hungry Hearts (2014)
Good suspense, drama. (SPOILER ALERT)
I loved it. Really did. At The next to the last scene, I was shocked and surprised and when it was over we turned to each other and said "that was good" I noticed the not washing the hands in the first scene too. I felt the claustrophobia of the apartment. I felt the desperation of the husband. I felt the psychosis of the mother. I felt sympathy for the grandmother. I was immersed in the film and enjoyed it. The run time is just over an hour. Perfect length. Satisfying ending. Strange stairs into the apartment. cool rooftop garden. I couldn't live in the city like that. I need room. I enjoyed the movie. Took place in New York City.
The Sheik (2014)
Good human story.
I felt genuine sympathy for The Sheik in this movie. His shocking addiction to crack at such an old age was wrenching. It was good to see him getting better. He really is a real life character in the true sense. The brothers who saved him and made the film did this man a great service. You can't help but love The Sheik. Sad, happy, sorrow, smiles, all you will feel. Great documentary. He had tragedy within his family, he was a hero in Iran, He raised daughters, had a wife, lived a life and made a comeback. I'm having trouble making this the minimum 10 lines. What started out a a fun review has turned into a school assignment. Oh I made it. Good doc, it's on Netflix.
Serpico (1973)
Watch it now. You will see. Spoiler but who hasn't seen this?
Yes I know, Serpico, the all time classic Al Pachino movie. Yes I really enjoyed it along time ago. I watched it recently. I have to tell you. I couldn't stand it. Al Pachino is a great actor in this yes. The film is very dated, yes. Kind of cool to see the 1970's new york, funky styles old cars etc. But. The Serpico character is annoying. So self righteous to the point of annoyance. Yes I know that is what the movie is about but it really grates after a while. The relationship with the girlfriend is so silly and annoying all in itself. I found myself rooting for the bad cops and being irritated with Serpico's whining self hating antics. Even the wussy 1970's escapist way of ending, moved to Europe. I don't know try the movie now. You might se what I am saying, maybe not.
