Shameless: This Is Chicago (2020)
For those complaining about this episode
Most of the reviews for this episode complain about the fact that this one is too political as COVID is being discussed. Eeh, COVID is being discussed as a satire. Everything that is discussed around this subject is approached in the form of satire. In fact, every (supposedly political) topic ever dealt within the series is approached from the satirical point of view. Why? Because the series is a comedy. A look at a family that is living on the fringes of society, a family with its own morals, its own ethics, but with a heart for each other. Funny that this is not seen by everyone.
Was it a right decision to include COVID in the Shameless world. Yes. Were the jokes around COVID funny. No. I can't explain that well, maybe it was still too early.
Avenue 5: No One Wants an Argument About Reality (2022)
Why... why did I do this to myself?
I saw the first season sometime in 2020, what I remember about it is not much anymore. I still remember a number of actors, the beginning of the story and the humor that is not entirely mine.
So one evening where I have nothing else to watch, I decide to watch season 2.
I'll be up and running again in a few minutes. The negative thoughts, annoyances and irritations returned. I can honestly say, despite the underlying concept of a ship going hopelessly off course and surviving against all odds, the humor is still not my cup of tea.
Actors do a fine job, given the script they have to work with. I also believe that it has been worked on with a lot of love, but it leads me to my greatest irritation
The biggest flaw, and this is something that always bothers me, whatever series or movie it is, is the incessive moving camera. That thing really doesn't stop moving for a moment. It is not that I get motion sickness, but it is exhausting to watch. I am really tired after watching the episode.
For me the reason not to finish this season. I can't remember why I watched season 1.
The series was canceled after this season, which was one season too late.
Pretty Little Liars: This Is a Dark Ride (2012)
Something is off this episode
This series is pretty much a guilty pleasure for me. So I don't take it too seriously. It looks nice, the mystery keeps my interest and I take the soap elements for what they are.
This episode is the Halloween episode with the necessary dressing up, the story has some twists that I will not discuss further, cause I wanna focus on the things that bothered me.
There's something that has started to annoy me in this episode. And that's time put into Adam Lambert performing. Maybe I'm too old, but the dude can't sing. He uses a vocoder to sing and it's making him sound like a vocaloid and that's not a compliment. And to make matters worse, he can't even lip sync to his own song.
Almost five minutes is spent on this. The question that therefore arises is, didn't the writers not have enough material to fill an entire episode, is this why they chose to implement the Baywatch method?
The Walking Dead: Acts of God (2022)
Underwhelming episode
Very underwhelming episode, why introduce Leah, just to be killed off unceremoniously?
Oh and this review needs 150 characters to be submitted. Very strange, I've seen shorter ones.
Bloodshot (2020)
Another Shared Universe Franchise
This Shared Universe movie from Valiant Comics has a mixed start. The story shoots in all directions at the beginning and only at the end comes a piece of logic that tries to connect the loose ends. But unfortunately by then, you are no longer interested. You know the story and have seen it before in other films. Characters are flat and are not worked out.
Vin Diesel plays a character very much like Wolverine, moody, deeply rooted in vengeance with a recovery factor, albeit artificially to avoid copyright issues. Diesel has previously played these types of roles with variable success. This is not one of them.
There are two things in this movie that stand out which I personally don't like. Some scenes are recorded with the shakey cam syndrome. As a result, these scenes are shot very sloppy. At that time, you cannot properly determine what is happening on the screen. There are more films that suffer from this syndrome and it should be clear that it is not conducive to the film. Filmmakers should use it sparingly.
Second downside has to do with a scene in which a truck with flour sacks. The truck tilts in a tunnel where the flour causes darkening. Then torches are lit. With so much dust in the air and fire as a detonator, there would be a massive explosion. That is a physical law even though this is a comic book adaptation.
Game of Thrones: Battle of the Bastards (2016)
Story ok but...
First review ever. I will keep this short. I love Game of Thrones, I really do, but I also love that I can see what's going on. Many directors make this stupid mistake, which is the shaking handcam footage. It is not immersive storytelling, it is lazy storytelling. Call me oldschool but I like scenes that are choreographed, where the camera slides through, documenting the action and the emotions. I was set to thrilled and awed only to be greatly disappointed by the few (shake)scenes of the battle itself.
