How are these ratings so low???

This is a solid show with solid characters and actors. Tom Holland nails the role of Danny. It has a slow build, but it's never dull, never boring. It's like a giant puzzle and you're putting the edges together the first couple of episodes. By the third episode you're recognizing colors, patterns, connections; it's falling into place. I, like many, typically judge a show by its IMDb rating, but I'm glad I followed my instincts and read other reviews so I didn't miss a chance at seeing this one. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Tom Holland receives some nominations for his performance. The majority of the other characters are likable, and if not likable they're relatable.

Hey there, lonely girl...

I'm just going to throw my credit to The Weeknd in the review heading (lyrics from Twenty Eight if you're not a fan of The Weeknd). That's about as much as I can give him so far. It also seems to best fit Ms. Depp in this role.

Everyone keeps saying how "cringy" Tedros is, but I think that is the entire vibe he's going for. Either way, that's all going to come to a head (no pun intended) in the next few episodes.

Jocelyn's outside world is chock full of people and liveliness, but she's left lifeless inside and looking for anything to cling on to. Tedros keeps her enough at arm's length to keep her interested so she's determined to win him over. It's all starting to play out a bit more in this episode, but his creepy posse is weirding me out. They're starting to look like some sort of cult.

Mostly I'm having flashbacks of sneaking into the basement with my friends in the early 90s to catch some 2am Skin-A-Max while Mom and Dad were asleep. There's just a bit too much soft core porn. I think they could fill that with something with a bit more substance instead.

Two stars because of the laughs...

Warning: Spoilers
This is basically the modern Scream of the action/thriller genre. It is that predictable and ridiculous. I was going to give it one star, but my wavering thumb decided that it was actually a bit entertaining to tell the "protagonist" (loose term) how stupid she was, which made me feel better about myself somehow.

I just have a hard time believing that a big fat (often injured) Russell Crowe could chase this woman down and evade police after a very violent and public murder in a diner - not to mention he was already on their radar from the murder/fire the previous night. And what police force sends ONE COP on a call where there is a viable threat...? Cmon. Pull into a bank and attempt to rob it. That'll get the cops there fast.

The Human Centipede was more realistic...
