Star Trek: Voyager: Tsunkatse (2000)
Not Much to Like Here
When Robin Burger came on board as a producer the quality of the episodes rapidly declined, and became a bit dark. This episode has no script and shows that the new script writers are mostly second tier writers, and seem unfamiliar with Voyager. Characters really have nothing to do except attend alien sporting events. Which raises another question, how are they attending them? It's padding for all the fight scenes that I found boring, and we've seen this many times before (The Gamsters of Triskelion). Seven I guess didn't need to regenerate while onboard the WWF space ship. Just a bad episode all around.
Columbo: Ashes to Ashes (1998)
The Lady In Red
This started out to be too comical at first with Rue playing a gossip columnist on TV spilling secrets with the local Hollywood famous and infamous. Patrick McGoohan, making his 3rd appearance in Columbo, also directs this episode. Peter Falk is really looking much older here. There were a couple other episodes before he retires from the series and Alzheimer's Disease takes a devastating toll on Falk. Nonetheless, this is a strong episode in the later episodes of Columbo. It's a strong script and Patrick is wonderful as always (previously winning 2 Emmys for other Columbo episodes). Great performances by all involved. A good episode to soon conclude the Colombo series.
The Munsters (2022)
How bad could it be? BAD!
I guess this might appeal to little children but the original Munsters had likable characters that had a sense of purpose dealing with everyday things except they are slightly different issues. The original cast was class A.
There have been several attempts to recreate or reimagine the Munsters over the years. This I don't hate to say is garbage. I could only watch several minutes and had to fast forward to see if it got any better but it didn't. I don't know who this person is who produced or directed it but they need to be strapped down in grandpa's dungeon and forced to watch the original episodes to understand what the Munster's was all about. Clearly, he doesn't.
Columbo: Troubled Waters (1975)
Volare!
What a time capsule of an episode for the mid-1970's! All the cliche songs of the day are on here. Especially Volare! It goes on and on. I enjoyed looking at the actual passengers on the ship (not boat) decked out in all their 70's funky clothes and feeling glamorous! Reminds me of my grandmother's wardrobe.
What a surprise to see Jane Greer in the episode. Older yes, but still very pretty and doing a nice job playing the killer's wife. A very underrated actress.
The unfortunate thing is Columbo's "wife". She's always missing or he's looking for her or she's looking for him. A trivia question is there was a Mrs. Columbo TV show with Kate Mulgrew. It didn't last very long.
A fun episode and cruising in the 70's in style must have been fun!
Columbo: A Deadly State of Mind (1975)
A Solid Episode
I'm dating myself but I saw this episode on it's first run. I was quite young at the time. I remember watching McCloud and McMillan and Wife. A story arc where each week you watched a different episode. I always wanted to watch the Columbo episodes. Peter Falk was born for the part. Unkempt, confused and probably not smelling that great with his signature cigar.
Leslie (missing Ann) turns in a fragile, disturbed woman easily molded by George Hamilton as her doctor. Of course Columbo figures out how everything went down (so to speak), and it's an ordinary show at the time but now all we get are CSI type shows by the bushel full. Just cutout characters. Columbo is worth checking out.
Columbo: Forgotten Lady (1975)
Dubious at First
The preview scenes seemed silly at first, and at the beginning Janet Leigh seemed to be over the top. Scenes settle down and you have a great episode. Great acting and surprisingly Janet wasn't nominated for an Emmy. She does a great job playing a has been actress wanting to make a come back by killing her husband. While watching her old movies aka Norma Desmond. You get the feeling she isn't living in the present and also get to think her memory isn't quite there as well. A solid episode with strong performances, and the first time that the perp gets away! A very strong episode that they can't make any more.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
How To Make a Bad Movie
Take one poor script, make strange casting choices, really Kristen Wiig?? Set the movie in 1984 (why?), bring back Steve Trevor who died in the first movie, only he's inhabiting someone else's body now, and why does he come back now? The first movie was enjoyable. This is almost unwatchable.
Being the Ricardos (2021)
The Timeline Is All Mixed Up!
I'm going to be picky but the events in the movie are all mixed up! The episode they are rehearsing with the Mertz's fighting and Lucy plans a dinner to get them back together happened in Season 1 in their small apartment. Lucy's pregnancy happened in Season 2. Lucy's Italian Movie was from Sesaon 5 and they explained they just took a trip there. The actual episode in which Desi addressed the audience about Lucy being communist is Season 3-The Girls Go Into Business. These inconsistencys bothered me. I guess they didn't have the budget to build their smaller apartment set.
The Outer Limits: The Children of Spider County (1964)
How Bad Could It Be??
Bad! This episode is a mess! They start story lines that make no sense to begin with. A lot of running around in the forest trying to escape from the police and the hound dogs too! Kent Smith must have been trying to figure out what this mess is all about. Then throw in a scary space alien with glowing eyes that allows him to disintegrate people. And every time he appears there's a strange seaweed type effect. Just odd. It could have been an interesting concept but there is just so much going on with needless scenes and one dimensional characters, I was looking at my watch to see how much more I needed to endure!
The Outer Limits: Cold Hands, Warm Heart (1964)
How Bad Could It Be?
I agree with most of the reviews on here. The acting was fine especially Geraldine Brooks, a very talented actress. Even scene chewing Shatner is good in his role. While I found the concept interesting, going to Venus and suddenly he can't stay warm, but it's never explained what happened to cause this, and where /why does the Venusian (looks like Beaker from the Muppets) cause him such terror?? I don't know why his hands got webbed and in the end he returns to normal? How, by the power of love? Too many things are left unanswered.
The Outer Limits: The Sixth Finger (1963)
Had High Hopes
I had high hopes for this episode because I thought it was a classic Outer Limits episode but it faltered for me with the less than special special effects and a man wearing a monkey suit. The episode also seemed to have a lot of padding in the story. Is it essential to see the happy villagers congregate at the bakery playing a concertina and doing a jig? I didn't find any of the characters likable, especially David McCallum. The makeup department must have had it out for him. They came up with some of the most hideous getups as his future self emerges.
Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Out There - Darkness (1959)
Too Rich for Her Own Good
I'm a big Bette Davis fan so I was surprised to find she did an episode on Alfred Hitchcock Presents! She could read the phone book and I'd enjoy it. Just watch a classic actress doing her craft. Bette appears in every frame and I thoroughly enjoyed the episode. Don't over analyze these episodes. They were meant to entertain us and to that end this one certainly does. I did wonder what happened to her poodle.
Alfred Hitchcock Presents: You Got to Have Luck (1956)
One Question
Spoilers-if she is deaf why didn't her neighbor know that? They are conversing normally.
Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Our Cook's a Treasure (1955)
One Of The Family-Spolier Alert
This episode was basically remade in an hour format on The Alfred Hitchcock Hour called One of the Family. Same premise, a strange, mysterious nanny turns up and her employer's believe she is the killer nanny talked about in the newspaper and on the radio. Arsenic is found in the workshop of the husband (strange place for that) so of course the gruff old nanny must be putting arsenic in their hot chocolate. They drink a lot of hot chocolate! As in both stories the nanny, strange as she might be in not the culprit. I suppose in 1955 it might have been more of a who done it but we've seen this story over and over again. Today's viewer is much more sophisticated and you can easily guess what's going on long before it's explained.
The Alfred Hitchcock Hour: Beast in View (1964)
Some Spoilers
I could see the ending coming miles away. Maybe we are much more sophisticated because of all the crime shows we see on TV. A lot of wasted talent, and the appearance of the mother adds nothing to the story except she has a new speaker phone! That's a big clue. But a bit like Psycho, where you need an explanation as to what was just revealed to make sure the audience understands. A really bad 'dream' sequence at the end. Not one of the better episodes.
Grease 2 (1982)
It's Stinky
Beyond bad. No magic from Grease. Just a quick rip off to cash in on the Grease craze. You need to see how bad can be.
The Alfred Hitchcock Hour: Ride the Nightmare (1962)
One question
What happened to the body in the kitchen? It seemed it was not resolved.
