Area 51 (2015)
The same 'generic' found footage horror with a touch of classic Alien mythology.
After watching the previous Alien abduction 'found footage' film, the segment in V/H/S/2 and Extraterrestrial i had no excitement in any found footage styled alien movies. I thought the character development was sadly dull, seeing as they took their time doing character development while it takes 45 minutes for them to actually break into Area 51. As a fan of extraterrestrial horror movies i was hoping to see more aliens or spacecrafts though i was very pleased to see that the spacecrafts were designed to look like actual UFO's instead of a H.R Giger inspired machine. Buuuut sadly the film did exceed to disappoint and show that the popular question 'will we ever have alien contact? can be questioned the same as 'Will we ever get a found footage movie that isn't generic and terrible'
Stage Fright (2014)
It puts the 'slasher' in musical.
If you love slasher movies and hate musicals.. then this film is not for you. But if you LOVE slashers and don't mind some musicals with horror aspects such as 'Sweeney Todd' or 'Rocky Horror' you will love this. The killer is done in a way if the writers mixed Ghostface with Freddy Krueger's humor and puns, then made the killer wear a mask with a similar design to Billy from Saw. The movie contains great actors such as Good will hunting's Minnie Driver and musician Meat Loaf, with songs in the style of an old 'Annie' theater feel and then makes the movie step up to the horror game when the killer has his music moments; singing in the style of an Ozzy Osbourne song.
Willow Creek (2013)
10% Bigfoot, 90% Blair Witch mock off.
When i fist found out they were filming a 'found footage' movie about Bigfoot i was hyped, thinking it would possibly put found footage horror films back in the right direction right after Paranormal 'crap'tivity turned horror into a hole of shame. Willow Creek is about a couple camping to find out the truth whether the hairy mystery exists; but in my opinion the film spent about 60 minutes of character development (which presented how much of a disrespectful boyfriend the guy was to his girlfriend) and then 20 minutes finally getting into some 'mild' horror aspects. But than again, i would of not watched this film and instead watched 'The Blair Witch Project' to get the same horror aspect. Don't get me wrong, i loved the suspense in the scene where the horrified couple are trapped in the tent, but apart from that the film barely reaches a 5/10. I didn't want to angrily rip through this film due to it being the filmmakers first horror movie, but he could only get better right...?
