Crosswords (2003)

Excellent movie, emotionally touching
25 May 2005
I really enjoyed this movie even though it was very sad. The movie is about a retired old man who sees his country (Argentina) becoming an impossible place to live. The social infrastructure and corruption are impossible after the changes to the economy. The old man lives alone with his dog and does crosswords to pass the time. His wife died many years previously and he has a good friend that comes over to visit and they pass the time with witty and funny conversation. They make fun of the dog and the dog really adds atmosphere to the movie. The end of the movie is really sad as we can see that the old man is simply waiting to join his wife. He has only one way out. Very sad but touching.

Black Flowers (2003)

Really smart movie

I saw this movie in the New England Film and Video Festival 2003 where it won the best narrative award. I was really impressed with the way the director presented a smart plot about the revenge between a son to his father after witnessing his father killing his mother in a jealous fit of rage 50 years previously. The professional tango dancing competition as a means of revenge was really well thought out. Fans of tango will love this gem as the dancing is really great. I really liked the interesting way the movie changed era from the present to the past and back again within its 30 minute running time. I highly recommend this movie.
