Sonic Boom (2014)
A good show, but the time schedule does not cut it
As far as negative reviewers go (due to them liking bad shows like Teen Titans Go! and Uncle Grandpa), the show does go well, to say the least, than the games from the Wii U and 3DS. However, despite of how good the show is, its also a miss-able show due to Cartoon Network's inconsistent time schedules (which is surprising as no one mentioned this), airing it from 7AM to 7:30 AM (or 8AM to 8:30 AM). I was hoping that Cartoon Network will improve, but instead, they aired this at a very inconsistent time for the audiences as they'll be too tired to watch the show and risk oversleeping, not to mention falling asleep during the premiere of Sonic Boom. I know I have, and by the time I woke up, I realized that the show airs at 7AM/8AM. Once again, Cartoon Network jumped the shark at making a comeback, so unless Cartoon Network can change the time schedule for Sonic Boom at least 10 AM (9 AM for non-DST), this show is a hit or miss, and to me, it was a miss, so I'm giving this a 4 only for Cartoon Network's inconsistent time schedules for Sonic Boom.
SpongeBob SquarePants (1999)
SpongeBob SquarePants - A childhood show transformed into a bottomless abomination
SpongeBob was one of my childhood characters of the show (hence the name), dating back to late 1999. It was filled with educational advices, some are musical as well, and executed quite well.
For SpongeBob, the character, he had a lot of humor and kindness among different people, even bothering Squidward in quite the humorous way there is. He had a passion for jellyfishing and flipping burgers with extraordinary skill at the Krusty Krab restaurant. He'd always make me laugh, along with his neighbor friend Patrick.
Patrick was dumb in a believable way; what lies his stupidity contains his good heart in him, showing his symbolism of friendship and respect among other characters, even though the same would apply for bothering Squidward, but in the most humorous way.
Squidward, while grouchy and arrogant, is still quite a likable character to go for, even goes for his talent for artistry and music, despite having to become the cashier of the Krusty Krab. Sure he tends to be the victim of SpongeBob and Patrick's shenanigans, but all in all, he's an amazing character, and the humorous one, too.
Mr. Krabs has a passion for money in the most reasonable way there is, including his love for his own restaurant.
And finally Plankton, while quite villainous with his intent on uncovering the secret formula of the Krabby Patty, is still lovable, no matter how evil he is.
This, however, went in a downward spiral after Stephen Hillenburg left SpongeBob, wanting to end it on a high note. Alas, Paul Tibbit stepped in and turned a once legendary show into a nightmare. Instead of cancelling it, he, along with Nickelodeon, had thought it was an excellent idea to continue to run with recycled episodes with added sour humor and overly-detailed graphics, both the characters and scenery of Bikini Bottom (and other locations) alike. I will admit, though, that I liked some of the episodes from 2005 and beyond, but to a certain degree.
With Tibbit already ruining my childhood, I realized as to why I rarely watch the shows; the newer episodes lacked any form of execution, not even humor. At least, there IS humor, but its more directed to toilet humor, including the one episode where Squidward's toenail was violently ripped off by SpongeBob, and the one episode "The Splinter" is where SpongeBob's swollen thumb emits grotesque contents after the splinter was finally extracted. Nowadays, this show serves little educational purposes in any form of degree.
As for the characters from 2005 and beyond, its reached to the point where the characters are the same, but have been altered into disturbing ways, almost the equivalence of McDonald's recently unveiled "mascot".
SpongeBob is now an overly-emotional character over the smallest mistakes he makes, and its not just that, he's been fully developed into stalking Squidward, as if he was the Justin Bieber of the "show" (and I used quotation marks because this is what the new, desperately-made show), even to the point where he'd physically harm Squidward, hence the toenail-ripping part I mentioned before. He is ALSO prone to freaking out rather easily in the most unfunny and disturbing manner, especially up to the point where he is unable to prevent Plankton from getting anywhere near the secret formula, even if Plankton were to have different intentions than primarily attempting to steal the formula.
Patrick has been reduced to the point where his stupidity has been gone in the wrong direction; it reached deep into his actions from each episode would come to the point where Patrick is more of a secondary antagonist than a secondary protagonist, and does similar actions to Squidward, much like SpongeBob.
Squidward is now the primary victim of SpongeBob and Patrick's constant harassment and even becoming a target of being physically attacked, including the toenail-ripping part I've mentioned again. He is also self-absorbed with absolutely no motives to even surpass his rival, Squilliam, because thanks to Tibbit, the synopsis is out the window. Oh, and did I ever mention that Squidward now has suicidal thoughts in one episode "Are You Happy Now?"? No, until now, and SpongeBob praised his behavior for that, which is flat-out inexcusable.
Mr. Krabs now becomes obsessed with money and money alone, the level of his greediness gotten the better of him, even to the point where he would fire SpongeBob over a measly nickle, which is blatant and unacceptable to the once-legendary show. Furthermore, its almost as if he's about to take SpongeBob's place whenever Plankton is present, with SpongeBob becoming useless to protect even his own home.
Plankton still retain his villainous personality, but the changes of him has been alternated similarly to Squidward's suicidal behavior, and is now always being defeated at the hands of Mr. Krabs, instead of SpongeBob, because now, SpongeBob lost all of his bravery and instead chose to frantically run around like a maniac, and allowed Mr. Krabs to take over.
While I still like the SpongeBob SquarePants show in the past, Paul Tibbit will not end the show anytime soon, and even after the second movie, which won't be as good as the first one, I presume (due to Tibbit's presence, of course), he'll just go as far as Season 20 (or even 100, who knows) and the million viewers will be reduced to a mere hundred, realizing that the show that's been going on with prolonged periods of time shows its overall loss of quality and fame.
I understand most of you long-time SpongeBob fans still love the show, but, as the quality continued to dwindle in the coming years, we've now come to a realization that the childhood show we knew and love is gone forever and endlessly tortured by generic writers and Tibbit himself. Watch Seasons 1-3 if you want to re-live the good times. I highly recommend it.
Johnny Test (2005)
The failed, and polar opposite of Dexter's Laboratory
Why is this show still on? Is it truly Cartoon Network's complete ba***** lovechild of their inexcusable efforts of making a blatant ripoff of the popular show, Dexter's Laboratory; instead of Johnny being the scientist, he's the lead of an obnoxious idiot version of Dexter, which is sad and appalling.
And for those who says "Johnny Test's the best, so what!", you have OBVIOUSLY never seen Dexter's Laboratory before, so basically, that's pretty much your problem for not experiencing what the earlier generations looked like, and how they had their greatest hits in animation shows before the sharp decline in mid to late 2000s.
Instead of keeping it like as if this poor excuse of a show was a son, take it off the air, and never bring it back again, Cartoon Network. Even Genndy Tartakovsky would find Johnny Test an atrocity excuse of poor animation and needs to be cancelled now, because even he can do better with Dexter's Laboratory. If you still think Johnny Test is a "wonderful" show, with reused plot lines, repetitive episodes (which always contains the word "Johnny" to it, as its quite uncreative), and bland characters with dry humor, then have fun getting your IQ diminished. You'll end up regretting not watching classic, wonderful shows that has meaning to it, unlike Johnny Test.
Uncle Grandpa (2010)
Prime example of Cartoon Network's desperation
For those who rated 10 stars have ABSOLUTELY no idea the true quality of cartoons in this current generation. I know I have, and have seen what cartoons are like back in the 90's (unless you were born in the late 2000s, then that's your fault for not experiencing the true qualities of animation style). Cartoon Network became the epitome of a cash cow, turning a blind eye for even the longest, and most dedicated fans there is, in an effort to make lackluster, and absurd shows, such as Uncle Grandpa for example.
I hardly watched the show, but for a good reason. The title itself made no sense, and it was approached towards incest, which I assumed that's what the show promotes to children and, to a lesser extent, adults alike, and even I found it to be rather detested by the style of animation, and synopsis overall.
And before you say "Oh, the show has its humor and all", well, let me be bluntly truthful; its not. Ren & Stimpy does have crude humor back in those days, yes, but at least they have REASONABLE humor; Uncle Grandpa lacked ANY.
The preview of the show already made me realize that this is CN's desperate attempt at trying to appeal viewers, and it failed. Again, as always. And a surprising factor that they're still airing this abomination excuse of a show, along with Johnny Test, rather than cancelling them altogether. But like I said, Cartoon Network has turned a blind eye against even the most loyal fans like myself, even without Stuart Snyder.
I highly recommend to watch older shows on Boomerang, because no matter how old their shows are, it'll prove that THEIRS have better qualities and appeal than "newer" shows (besides Adventure Time, Regular Show and Steven Universe (and of course, The Amazing World of Gumball, but I'm not too fond of it, doesn't mean I hate it)) to see a difference between great shows, and atrocious shows (Uncle Grandpa does show an obvious example of a bad, if not highly unappealing, animation show.
Teen Titans Go! (2013)
Teen Titans Go! would've been better off as a DC Shorts, and stayed that way
But nope. Instead, you get a full series of a once critically acclaimed show into an overly kid-friendly show. I'll be brief, but stern; Teen Titans Go! was pretty funny at first when DC shorts came up from about 2009/2010, I'll admit to that.
This however, all changed when Cartoon Network blatantly removed Beware the Batman, after they intentionally removed The Green Lantern and Young Justice, and instead, turned Teen Titans Go! into a series. Bad move, Cartoon Network. As a result, you have lost your longtime fan back in the 90's. Were parents being too overprotective for their children? There's a TV remote for a reason; you can just change it, I mean, they weren't THAT violent, I mean, a bit of action sequences aren't violent (yet ironically, the children are allowed to play Call of Duty and even GTA by, of course, overprotective parents, which are both M-rated games. Wow. Great parenting skills), but in all seriousness, it shows an example on why Cartoon Network is failing in dedicated fans, even without Stuart Snyder, and have chosen quantity over quality.
After the original episode of Things Change from Teen Titans, the outcome was NEVER released, or mentioned. And after that, Teen Titans Go! happened. Again, I'll admit, it did made me laugh a couple of times, but after that, the humor became quite bland at best. The original Teen Titans had both action and COMEDY, not to mention its high appeal to it, whereas Teen Titans Go! had only comedy, which had made me laugh less and less.
And please don't tell me that this is a spin-off, which I'm aware of, because I know that Cartoon Network is trying too hard and failing to appeal viewers, instead of going back to their ways of bringing back Teen Titans (and keep it to its original state, with the plot lines and such). I gave it a 3 stars because it was funny as a DC shorts. The rest, are flat-out cash cow, poor excuse of CN's efforts to please their viewers. If you want TRUE comedy, but also action at the same time, Teen Titans is the way to go (as its on Boomerang), even though the true outcome after Things Change was never revealed since Cartoon Network had begun its focus on quantity over quality.
