Greatest film of all time???? NO!!!!
26 May 2005
King Arthur, Troy, Alexander, Kingdom of Heaven, how many more of these horrid epics will we have to endure? Mind you, K.O.H, compared to some of the ones mentioned previously is rather acceptable, but that's not saying much considering their atrocious quality. Any film by Ridley Scott carries with it certain hype and expectation, and rightly so if you look at all the brilliant films he's responsible for. However, he fails on almost all counts with this one. Historically it is way, way off. The main flaw being in the central character, Balian who in the film is portrayed as a kind, heroic and brave crusade. This couldn't be further from the truth seeing as history books, depict him as a tyrant and heavy drinker who butchered Muslims in Arabia. Scott's choice of actor for the role of Balian is also a bit mystifying. Surely he could have found someone a bit more manly, who has actually gone through puberty, instead of pretty-boy Bloom, who has probably never shaved before in his life. The only redeeming feature of the film is the fact that Liam Neeson is in it although this is short lived as he's killed off within the first 20 minutes. I don't want to sound like a cynic but no epic will ever be able to match Gladiator, Spartacus and Ben-Hur, so directors out there: STOP TRYING!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Am I the only living person on this planet that feels let down by this film?? that feels cheated, after paying 6 pounds to see the same old boring story? Hopeless boxer, no money, no talent, finds a trainer and becomes the world champion. Thank you very much Rocky, we got the message first time out. Sure, Million Do. Baby offers a change from the norm and uses a woman as the main protagonist, and kills her off at the end, but nevertheless it still remains the classic underdog story that's been used far too many times in films. Not that I care too much, but how this film managed to win 3/4 of the main academy awards still defies my intelligence. This is all the more surprising when you consider the presence of Hotel Rwanda in the "Best Picture" category and Don Cheadle in the "Best Actor" one. Please, please, please don't spend any money on this film. If it is offered to you free, and you've done the washing, hoovered, trimmed the roses, done up the garden, defrosted the fridge and cleaned the toilet, then think about giving it a go. Otherwise, stay away from it. It will be w total waste of your time. Peace

A great feel-good type of film. Campanella lives up to promise and delivers yet again, as he dives head first into the story of a forty-something going through a mid-life crisis. Ricardo Darin (Rafael Belvedere) shows us why he's one of South America's biggest stars as he puts in a performance to rival "Nine Queens" (another great Argentinian film). He's complemented by Natalia Verbeke who plays his girlfriend (and who is in possession of the world's greatest smile) and Héctor Alterio and Norma Aleandro who play his parents. Aleandro in particular contributes some magnificent scenes, playing an aged woman struggling to cope with mental illness. A really good film that will restore your faith in humanity....A bit corny?? oh well.... Funny, original, and well put together. Recommended for everyone!!

Absolutely Brilliant

Great acting, great story, great film!!! Nothing else to it. Both leading actors (Okenedo and Cheadle) grab your attention by the scruff of the neck in the first seconds of the flick and don't let it go. Great to see a film every now and again that isn't ruined by overacting, over hype or extensive use of special effects. Graphically it is also a stunning film with the production team really attempting depict the horrors of the Rwandan massacres in '94. This is a must see film for everyone. Easily deserved to win the Best Picture award at the Oscars. Million Dollar Baby, please..... Cheadle and Okenedo should also feel cheated out of the Best Actor and Actress awards, but they should take some consolation in the fact that if they produce performances like this in the near future, those little golden statues won't evade them any longer.
