Three's Company (1976)
What's up with Joyce Dewitt's voice in the third season?
The closer to the end of the season/series her voice gets more exaggerated, high pitched, and strained sounding. Makes her come across like she's overacting. Maybe she was trying to match Priscilla Barnes level of silent film style of acting? Except we could hear Barnes too unfortunately. This last season has some good episodes despite the strangeness of it. Perhaps they knew the end was near so they hammed it up more than usual. Anyway, I've always liked Three's Company and it brings back good memories from childhood. My parents were pretty liberal in what they let me watch especially considering this show was pretty risque for the time.
The Night House (2020)
Very Original
I thought this was going to end up like one of those 70's movies where the woman is made to go crazy by her spouse and everyone around her is in on it. Similar to a movie like Let's Scare Jessica to Death but the resolution of this film was much different than I expected. I didn't give it a higher rating because like most modern horror it was way too slow.
The Outer Limits: Corpus Earthling (1963)
Creepy, Effective Episode
Beautifully filmed episode with an interesting plot device using seemingly ordinary rocks as alien invaders. I think Barry Atwater almost steals the show with his creepy portrayal of a zombified professor. Salome Jens has always been an intriguing actress and has a great scene here when her alien possession is revealed to her husband, Robert Culp's character.
Ahí va el diablo (2012)
Much Better Than the Rating It Has Received
The first scene was shocking but if this were remade in America the sex would be toned down and every other word would be profanity.
Anyway, I was surprised this movie has as low a rating as it has. I really liked the portrayal of Marcia's blackout. That whole scene was hypnotizing for me. I'm glad they didn't show explicitly what the kids were doing. The implication was horrifyingly enough.
I thought the acting was really good by the parents and Marcia especially. The kis were hampered by the lack of anything for them to do because their characters didn't really have to say anything for us to know what was going on with them.
I would recommend this movie but I would warn those I told to be prepared for some pretty explicit sex scenes and that there is implied incest.
Half a Sinner (1940)
Cute Plot, Terrible Actint
I think this plot could be successfully remade today even with today's societal differences. Anyway, I'm not sure if it was intentional but the actors' way of delivering the dialogue is flat and artificial even for the era it was produced in. Otherwise, it's just bad acting but I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt.
The Love Boat: Isaac's Aegean Affair/The Captain and the Kid/Poor Rich Man/The Dean and the Flunkee: Part 1 (1983)
What a Waste of Scenery
Not that The Love Boat was ever great television but it was usually a pleasant diversion. This two parter has some of the most inane dialogue and story arcs I've ever watched. What a waste of Shirley Jones and Eddie Albert. Sad to witness Eva Marie Saint in such a miscast role. Everyone else fit the material. Four stars only for the scenery.
Hawaii Five-O: A Touch of Guilt (1975)
A Rare Example of Restraint
This episode managed to avoid the hysterics of a lot of other H50 episodes when dealing with a serious subject. Beverly Kushida should have won an Emmy for her portrayal of the victim. Very understated performance but her emotions rang true.
Stranger at My Door (1956)
The animals are the best actors in this flick
Never realized how bad an actor Skip Homeier was. Patricia Medina seems lost and miscast.
Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: Dorothy's Book (1995)
I ADORE Barbara Babcock!
Everything I've ever seen her in she's excellent. To me, she's the epitome of an actress. She really shines in this episode.
A Star Is Born (1976)
I Cannot Believe Streisand Attached Herself to This!
Especially since she'd pretty much already made a story similar to this with the much better film Funny Girl (1968). Nothing against Kris Kristofferson but he's no dramatic actor and not a singer either. Streisand really stretched her acting ability when telling Kristofferson's character how great his musical ability was. Only gave this three stars because of Streisand's singing.
Decoy (1946)
Film Noir Meets SciFi
Interesting premise yet totally unbelievable. The best of the Film Noir genre at least presents scenarios that could happen in real life but this flick takes it all to a whole other level. Somehow this film manages to skate by avoiding what could have been a real laugh fest for viewers of Mystery Science Theater.
