Leaving Neverland (2019)
Shock value, drone shots and #metoo
In the era of the #metoo movement that grew out of the Weinstein abused actress stories who until then had remained silenced in front of the great machinery that demanded the woman to remain still in order to not lose their jobs, in the same track of people opening up about long secrets, we have James Safechuck and Wade Robsob, two men who befriended Michael Jackson when they were kids along with their families. The dilemma with these two alleged survivors is that they sworn under oath that Michael had never done anything sexual or never had touched in any suggestive way, evenmore both of these men's lawsuit were thrown out of court twice where Wade was quoted saying he was going to use his story of "abuse" to remain relevant and also making tributes up to 2013, after the 7 year estatute of limitation. There are a lot of missinformation and sensasionalism but the questions are if MJ did all these things, why would their lawyers would put him up in the witness stand knowing that he could thrown him under the bus right away? why no other people who spent time with Michael as a child were interviewed in the documentary? why the movie implies Culkin and Brett were abused at the end of the movie when they relenteslly defended Jackson? I don't know. With all that shock value, sinister music and unbalanced view, this sounds more like a propaganda than an actual documentary.
Grachi (2011)
Maravillosamente mágica.
Well, what we have here is the classic story where the popular kid falls for the new (and naive) girl in town (high school musical much?). It's been a while since I watched for the last time so I don't remember much details, but it certainly addresses the crazy adventures this girl has since she finds out she has magic powers. I watched the first season when I was 20 years old and it took me back to the teen times; the plot is funny although quite repetitive, and well-casted characters (who actually can sing!). The show is geared to pre-teens and teens, mostly to those well-known and quiet girls who're going to feel related to Grachi's crush on Daniel. Nothing special. A clean fun.
Austenland (2013)
Please, what have you done?
I was bored when I came across with this movie, it seemed promising so I gave it a chance, but since the internet didn't work well I came up with the idea of reading the book first so I could have a screen shot of the whole plot. And I found it quite amusing, the idea seemed kinda clichéd but I mostly enjoyed it. Once I finished the book, I gave the movie a final chance and I couldn't believe how this movie actually came out! The characters are flat, too overacted, and when the plot was missing the point, it came out with hasty gags and scenes that had nothing to do with the whole book or even the movie itself! I watched till the end only because JJ Heiler was an amazing choice for Mr. Nobley and also I had the hope it would get better but that never happened. So disappointing!
