Face Off 7: One Wish (2024)
Effective feel-good movie
As a 7th installment in an anthology series, One wish is the very first film to lean completely on the drama genre. Thankfully, Ly Hai showed he's not an amateurish singer-turn-director with his continued improvement, this time with a heartfelt plot, effective storytelling, strong cast and good overall cinematography. The director managed to cramp five different stories into an 130-minute-long runtime without it ever feeling lengthy or incoherent. That being said, family drama is plentiful in Vietnam's primetime tv scene, so it is not so refreshing to see; the overuse of cheap laughs sometimes felt out of place, the very simple score that feels like it was made for kids; and of course, the very bad CGI.
Overall I'd recommend this movie to someone looking for a simple, family night watch that most definitely makes you teary by the end.
Tee Yod (2023)
Incoherent mess
What a waste of time! The story in this movie definitely looks like it was written by a 12-year-old, who tried to impress his peers. As for a casual cinema-goer, I don't think anyone would enjoy this, let alone praise it. The horror is shallow, the jump scares are cheap and right in the face with no buildups, the dialogues are clumsy and without substance. The familiar love messages which scatter throughout runtime stick out like a sore thumb (you can definitely tell by the out-of-place happy score, which I was confused and weirded by). Some scenes are cut to the next without logical developments. It is extremely formulaic and full of cliché that I laughed the whole movie, mostly for the two hours I'll never get back. One of the few movies I want to leave half-way through. 2/10.
Supernatural (2005)
Still a great show since 2005!
I saw this TV series online just about a year ago, but i'm totally in love with it! What makes me feel great is that, just because it's about supernatural stuffs, it's always had other good features like brotherhood, love, friendship,... Jensen and Jared have been doing a very good job, with the action and the emotions. The scripts never get bored, sometimes it got out of the topic but soon it came back to what it's served. But the main subject of the later seasons has been getting out of control, i mean, really! I think it should go back to where it began, hunting and killing things. SPN has been renewed by The CW for season 10, it means at least i still can watch it for another year, and really, really want the show never ends.
