High School Record (2005)
This is an amazing and underrated movie
I watched this movie ages ago and remembered liking it, and then ended up watching it again recently, mostly due to the fact that I couldn't find anything else on netflix. I loved it. It absolutely held up over time, and watching it again as an adult sparked all these bittersweet nostalgic memories of that short fleeting time of your life. It was hilarious and touching and the characters seemed engaging and real, probably since most if not all are musicians instead of typical Hollywood actors. It's one of those movies that looks easy to make in a way, but is actually really hard to pull off. It definitely was ahead of it's time.
Harmony Parker (2005)
Loved it!!!!!
This is definitely one of my favorite films that somehow fell under the radar. It restores my faith in filmmaking as an art form that can touch and uplift your life for the better, without resorting to special effects or cheap shock value. It's just plain and simply put, a story told with really good writing, brilliant direction, and good acting.
I think this is Madison Davenport's first movie. I've seen her in a lot of big budget productions lately, but I love seeing her play such a fresh, innocent, yet raw character.
It was one of the few movies that stayed with me after I watched it. I want to see more from new director Suzy Kassem! She has a way of seeing the magic in the seemingly ordinary and making a simple story about a little girl way more powerful and engaging than the big budget blockbusters that are out there right now. This is storytelling at it's best.
