Holmes & Watson (2018)
Not that bad but could do better
Well honestly this is not a good movie to quote or remember but definitely not a horrible one. I've seen way much worse.
A bit of slapstick, a bit of rudeness, a bit of blunt jokes and a few that left me with laughing in tears.
This movie does lack a coherent plot but those that look for a plot go watch Schindler's List. The scripting is a bit dull and Farrel and Riley could be made far more crazy yet the premise and the ideas were overall nice.
It's a movie to watch,
to laugh a bit,
and to move on with your life.
Don't expect anything more.
Motel Acacia (2019)
The real victims of this movie are us !
The problem with weird movies is that they are just weird, pointless, meaningless, can't be understood and the characters are behaving and speaking in an unexplained manner.
Now add to this recipe a mindless and pointless plot together with bad acting and you get an spoiled stew that leaves you with a bad taste and the feeling the the joke was on you and you are the victim of this movie.
It wasn't as bad as other movies I've watched such as Fearless (the worst ever) but it was just plain bad. No plot. No logic. No explanation and no scare or horror at all.
If you want better horror - go watch 60 Minutes or CNN.....
Space Force (2020)
What the heck is wrong with the critics?
For god's sake - I watched the too short season and enjoyed every minute knocking me down laughing. I don't know what heck is wrong with the critics that keep trying to compare it to The Office? If you want to watch The Office go and watch The Office! Don't try to compare it or even assume it has to be similar. Space Force offers a blend of sarcasm, humor, humanity, drama and a bit of our own grim reality in just that tolerable amount that doesn't render it heavy or too-serious.
How can critics compare a satirical sitcom to a drama and expect the characters to have depth? It's a satire for crying out loud! And a darn good one.
The cast is just great. They picked the characters and their attitudes just perfect and this creates a blend of laughable moments that kept me going through all 10 too-short episodes and left me HUNGRY FOR MORE. In fact - I think that albeit the critics this show is going to rank high and will eventually be remembered as a cult hit.
Time will tell and those critics - WHO NEVER EVER CREATED ANYTHING PRODUCTIVE OF THEIR OWN - will eat their hats !
Ad Astra (2019)
Horrible. Period
I must say there is praise to give for someone taking an idea that may have been good and trashing it this way. People left the cinema during the movie and a couple even had a loud fight over why the husband dragged his wife to this movie. I must agree with the wife this time. Scientifically the movie is just ridiculous down to second grade school science. But let's leave that aside, since it Sci-Fi so let's just pretend. But the cheap 'drama' they tried to create with Pitt's slow and boring narration was one of the most devestating parts of the movie. The characters were as flat as a cutting board and any attempt to give them depth turned out like cheap beginner's drama lessons. Tommy Lee has hisv3 minutes of glory and Pitt appears as a guest in his own movie. He's detached from his character just about as much as they try to portray his character as being detached. Oh and Liv Tyler? C'mon... she is totally unrelated and doesn't even qualify as a guest. Stay away from this movie. Save yourselves!
A Star Is Born (2018)
A movie that will break your heart
Well I must admit this genre is far from being my cup of tea. Went with my wife to watch it but this movie truly touched me and left me speechless. The most powerful element being the so realistic acting and the close up shots that turn the movie into a documentary and love story. The only movie so far that I've rated 10 and definitely deserves it.
Hardcore Henry (2015)
Perhaps the best action movie I've ever seen!
DEFINITELY WORTH WATCHING. I would have given it a perfect 10 had the plot been a little bit more organized. I think the movie misses some audiences in the first 10-15 minutes because the confusion they wanted to create makes people think it's just some stupid beat-em-up movie and they walk out during the beginning. Once you get past this part, the movie enters a more organized pace and you are just drawn in. The filming from the first person view is quite amazing and the special effects, locations and stunts are stunningly real - unlike many Hollywood stunts and effects. This movie is fast paced and Sharlto Copley gives his best appearance ever IMHO. Hardcore Henry sets a new standard for FPV action movies and I doubt any other production will come close to it if at all - because this movie is unique and trying to make other movies like this will just make the genre seem silly. It deserves much more credit and appreciation and I think the media ruled it out just because it is Russian-made, not American. The Kingsmen first person fight scene was highly appraised whereas Hardcore Henry is far more elaborate and realistic - yet it received quite a negative response.
Moonwalkers (2015)
Funny, adorable and definitely worth watching
It's a Guy Ritchie vs Tarantino style movie with Ron Perlman doing a great job as a sloppy arrogant agent that manages to mess up a mission to fake the moon landing teaming with two idiots that fooled him. A fun movie with a funny plot done in a very convincing manner.
This only proves how a good script, good shots and good direction together with good actors that are not necessarily celebrities - can end up with a great result that does not fall short of the big pictures. Food for thought for big studios IMHO and Perlman here shows sides which I've never before seen him do.
Definitely worth watching. Amusing, not hilarious but fun to watch.
The Vatican Tapes (2015)
The only Anti Christ here is the director of this film
Seriously now - I can't believe someone at Lionsgate actually approved this horrible production.
This is one of those movies that you watch and then suddenly the end credits appear and you ask yourself "what the f...".
I mean, had it at least been scary. Or surprising. Or anything... No plot, just a sequence of exorcism or possession scenes that are very short, un- scary and not even surprising or mysterious. No hidden message, no good guys or bad guys, just a boring possession. No point at the end, no development during the movie... just people doing things while being shot by a camera and then it ends - with simply nothing really happening or any hint of anything.
Quite boring, pointless and the acting is far from convincing.
The horror is the fact this film was ever released. It truly scares me that there's someone who actually approved this!
Oculus (2013)
Nicely done, well shot but somehow lacks the sting
This is a good movie overall which could have been 7.5-8 but it somehow lacks a 'sting'. The scenes are nice, the acting is good and definitely it does manage to mess with your mind as the director wanted - but somehow, this is one of those movies where you have great expectations but as it ends - you feel it missed its point big time. That's the point where you exit the cinema and say to yourself - "This is a movie I could have watched on TV....". I think one of the main reasons this movie fails to deliver a blow, is the fact that it lacks an explanation or reasoning for what is happening and why - and things just happen from the beginning to the end without good reason. Furthermore, the movie focuses on various events but overall - nothing really happens other than moving from scene to scene and that leaves you not with a taste for more, but rather a hunger that makes you feel lousy when it ends. This is definitely a potential movie so it gets a 6, but could have definitely made a 7.5 or 8 if this hunger was somehow satisfied.
