Moriah's Lighthouse (2022)
STOP the clichés !
Really upset with the same old clichés of French people. They still exist since the end of WW2 ! Nope, we, French, don't wear marinière with a béret, we don't eat baguettes with camembert, drinking red wine of Bordeaux ! In all American movies, it's always the same old story about us. STOP ! Come to France once, you'll see the real difference about what you're showing about us. This TV-Movie is really a pity for all the clichés. Nope, even on a French little island (this was shot on a town of the coast, not an island at all !) bikes are NOT priority on walkers, and there is no accordéon player every corner of the roads ! Too bad to still show that of us. This is not reality, and that's a pity.
Arrow (2012)
ARROW... For Kiddo !
This series is really not my kind of stuff : it's clearly make for teenagers. "Heroes" that can rebirth, killed but never dead, injured and wounded but always standing still, etc... I have seen the 3 first seasons because of my ex-flame was watching it every Wednesday (at 11.30 PM!) when it was aired in France on TF1. I was so bored watching this thing I often fell asleep in front of the episodes ! I just don't get the point. Superheroes series can be well-made. But this one is so dumb. If you like it, well it's just fine. But I really don't and I won't see the 4th season when it'll be aired in France next summer ! And please, the acting !!! Come on ! Start acting, not taking poses for the cameras ! I think why the producers chose Amell is only for his good looks. Not because he's a good actor... And the series... Season after season, we always have the same scripts coming from the first season's episodes ! Arrow wins, Arrow loses... He wins, he looses... He wins, he loooses... Someone died ! He wins, he looooses... He wins, he loooooses... He wins, he looooooses... Oops, another one died ! He wins, he loooooooses... He wins, he looooooooses... He wins, he loooooooooses... He wins, he... OH my Goash : I see Dead People !!! OK, Arrow is still alive... But for me, this TV-Series is already dead.
Arrow ? Never more for me !
Covergirl (1983)
Covergirl: The Face of The Eighties...
Synopsis: KIT PAGET (Irena Ferris) is a moderate successful New York model who realizes her career is in a holding pattern. Although she lives well in a Manhattan townhouse with two other models, Dee Anderson (Roberta Leighton) and Avril Craig (Deborah Wakeham), Kit has become cynical about ever reaching the exclusive circle of top-dollar model.
Eva Randall (Paulle Clark), the woman who owns the modeling agency that signed Kit, is inundated with numerous financial dilemmas, tempestuous models and ex-partners who have opened their own agencies and subsequently "stolen" her top models.
In an accident of fate, Kit meets T.C. SLOANE (Jeff Conaway), a dashing video and computer entrepreneur, when his limousine collides with her taxi. Although she takes an intense disliking to him, his attraction to her is immediate.
Sloane begins to actively pursue Kit with the idea of grooming her into a top superstar model.
He shows up at a fur presentation where Kit is scheduled to model. He buys all the furs she displays, then makes the master of ceremonies change the entire program - focusing exclusively on Kit. After the show, he invites her to dinner.
Kit is curious and somewhat flattered and accepts his offer.
Sloane and Kit come to a profit-sharing agreement, giving him the responsibility of launching her career.
Kit, however, is not one to acquiesce she values her independence, and resents Sloane for trying to take over both her professional and personal life.
Meanwhile, Kit's two roommates are going through their own private hells. Avril is in the midst of a breakdown and Dee, who has been moonlighting as a prostitute.
Kit knows she has turned down her friends, and wants to make things change to bring them back together again.
But the way to Stardom is very long and full of pitfalls...
COVERGIRL is a 89 minutes long Canadian and American Co-Production, set in New York (partly filmed in New York, but mostly in Toronto and Montréal). It's a typical model's film genre of the eighties. Not bad, not good... The story is full of clichés, and the supermodel's world is very stereotyped. But the way it is presented is quite interesting. Fame is not that accessible, and to reach it is a minefield. The images are sometimes way too much (the first dinner with Kit and T.C. is just... well, how did they come to show that ?! It's so dumb and unrealistic, even in a "dreamworld" ! It's not romantic at all, it's absurd and silly !).
But Irena Ferris and Jeff Conaway get along together very well, and form a couple we can easily believe in, and follow. Irena has a couple of very fine scenes where she can act. But most of the time, the only thing the director asked her was to model and show up, not to act ! That's not necessarily a good thing, even if she was really a model that wanted to become an actress at the times (the film was filmed from August to November of 1981,and was released in January of 1984 in the USA). So the film itself is not a great issue, but it's entertaining and refreshing. And some scenes with actor William Hutt (who plays Alton Cockridge), Kenneth Welsh (Harrison) and the foxy Samantha Logan (Topsy) are very cool to watch.
Well... Wellcome Back to the Glamorous Eighties !
Alphas (2011)
"Painkiller" Alphas
I've read all the reviews and posts on IMDb and it's quite an interesting mix of opinions.
To me, Alphas is a cool, attractive, engaging and entertaining show. I've never seen any single episode of the others TV-series mentioned here, as "Heroes, Warehouse, 4400" or the X-Men movies. But I've related Alphas to an other (older) TV-series : Painkiller Jane (Sci-Fi/2007 - starring Kristanna Loken, Rob Stewart, Noah Danby,...). In this one, 'Alphas' are 'Neuros', 'Binghamton' is the 'Nico' and both team (of 5 recurrent people - 2 are "Neuros" too -a 'musclor'-guy and a super- computer freak !) work as undercover agents for the US Government/Department of Defense. Jane's abilities are just a little "too much" (she can't die and regenerate herself after being shot... yeah, okay...!).
Even if Alphas is much more believable and realistic, it's kind of a "copié/collé" of Painkiller Jane, without any doubt. (even some of the intrigues are very close).
Anyway, I think the writing's just fine (even if some dialogs are a little bit dumb in the second season) and for sure, all the actors really CAN act (my favorites are Ryan Cartwright, Laura Mennell, John Pyper-Ferguson and Warren "the Hunk" Christie !). I find in this show what I search on TV - for that kind of stuff, so I've liked what I've seen on the 24 episodes of this series.
Soooo bad it doesn't have an ending ! (The Producers & Creators could have given us a clue on the bonus materials of the Second Season DVD of what could -or might- have happened on the following of "God's Eyes"...). But not a single word ! So 'Alphas' is over now, but at least there are still the DVDs to continue to live on my screen...
Dante's Cove (2004)
Dante's Eden...
I've read all the reviews and posts on the site, and it's quite an interesting mix of opinions.
To me, DANTE'S COVE is a cool and innovating show as I've never seen any single episode of the others TV-Series mentioned here as 'Buffy the vampire slayer - The OC's -or- Charmed'. I must say that generally, I'm not that much attracted by supernatural genre. It bores me a lot. But not for DANTE'S COVE. I retrieve what I've appreciated in 'Queer As Folk & Tales of the City' : a community spirit combined with mutual help, fun (and venomous tongues !).
I think the writing's just fine (even if the red-eyes thing is far too much !) and for sure some of the actors really CAN act (as Tracy Scoggins, Thea Gill & Charlie David for firsts). I find in this show what I search on TV - well for this kind of stuff : something entertaining, eyes-candy and refreshing. (My on-screen-witchcraft knowledge mostly is limited to Elvira's, I guess !) so I like what I see on the 13 episodes of this Series (I include the 'Unaired Pilot'). And Goash, Charlie David is a Hunk ! I hope so much that one day we'll get the chance to see the Fourth Season : I know I'll go back to this Cove with a delighted (and non-guilty) pleasure again...
Criss Cross (2001)
CRISSCROSS : From The Files Of TROPICAL HEAT.
That's the full-title of this made-for-TV movie, released in 1996. CRISSCROSS was taken from 2 episodes of the TV Series "SWEATING BULLETS" a.k.a. "TROPICAL HEAT" (1990/1993, aired from April 1991 to October 1993). Those 2 episodes actually are #10 & #11 of the Second Season (aired on CBS "Crimetime After Primetime" at 11:30 pm on Sept. 28 & Oct. 5, 1992). It was shot in Eilat, Israel at the end of 1991 where the production of the second season was based for this CANADA-ISRAEL Co-Production Season (DLIN Film Productions & Accent Four Entertainment/Kushner-Locke - CBS). The DVD was released in Germany in 2001 under the title of "MORD UNTER HEISSER SONNE"; UK released it in 2008 (BlackHorse Entertainment/Vision Films) and USA released it in 2010 (Silver Series). CRISSCROSS is a re-editing of the 2-episodes (the only episode in 2- parts of the whole series), combined in one TV-movie well done (It was aired sometimes in 1996 on Sci-Fi (USA) as a one-shot -this is the reason why this TV-Edit was made). OK, it isn't the best script of the whole series, but it's quite fun and entertaining. "Absolute toilet" ?... Certainly NOT ! OK, if you're prude, well don't watch it, there's some partial nudity in this film (well, like in most of this TV Series episodes !). But the story is interesting enough to keep you awake to watch it 'till the end! After... It's all about a matter of own taste, you know !!
Sweating Bullets (1991)
Still a great TV series after 24 years !
"Tropical Heat" aired in France on July 11, 1992 for the first time on national channel Antenne 2 (now France-2). Sadly it aired Saturdays nights at 23h30 to 0h30 when nobody was watching ! (But was re-run short after on Saturdays afternoons around 5:30 PM). It was a huge success then (and aired on 6 different channels until now : A2/France 2, RTL9, TMC, Canal Jimmy, Action & SyFy). I simply love the show : it's entertaining, full of fun & action, with a good cast (Rob Stewart/Carolyn Dunn & Ian Tracey) that really can act. All episodes are not constructed with the same aspect and some are really poor to watch. But there are only a few of them : the rest of the TV-series is really great. I bought the 3 seasons on DVD (TANGO Editions) and I love to watch them from time to time. I deplore too the fact that there never was a Final episode which got produced. I hoped that a TV-movie would be aired short after the end of the series, but it never came on screen... Too bad ! Thanx to the DVD(s) to make this show live again ! And if one day it'd start again, I'd be in front of my TV-screen...
Tropical Heat had 3 Seasons of 22 episodes each : First was shot in Mexico (Bucerias & Nuevo Vallarta, NAYARIT & Puerto Vallarta, JALISCO) aired in USA on CBS from April 8, 1991 to February 24, 1992. -according to Sam Egan, the creator of the series, the first episode ever shot was "This Year's Model", which would be considered as the real "Pilot" episode-. Second Season was shot in Eilat (Gulf of Aqaba near the Red Sea), Israel and aired on CBS from April 13, 1992 to March 1st, 1993. Last Season, the Third, was shot in Pretoria & Johannesburg, South Africa (+ beach scenes in Mauritius, at the Maritim Hotel). It aired from May 3 to October 18, 1993. CBS canceled the series because David Letterman came over to CBS and took the 11:30 pm slot for his "Late Show" - according to Rob Stewart for 4motion. Tropical Heat stopped after only 66 episodes... It was the end of a terrific TV-series...
A TV-movie was made from 2 episodes (#10&11) out of Season 2 : "CRISS CROSS : From The Files Of Tropical Heat" (released on DVD in 2008).
Check out the "Slaughter Nick For President" DVD : it's a 73 minutes-long documentary about the success of the TVseries in Eastern Countries as Serbia, released in 2012. On 4motion, Stewart said about a possible revival of the show "Is it probable ? No"... Well... We"ll wait... And see !. (More details below in the section 'discuss SWEATING BULLETS on IMDb Board').
