My Bromance (2014)

Tears twice as I watched this video twice in a row
23 August 2014
I still get tears in my eyes when I watched this movie -- TWICE. The way they created the tension, mixing back and forth the past and present, and the twist at the end (sorry I won't spoil the story for you). The two boys were pricelessly gorgeous. I can't believe that anyone could create the concept of two (step) brothers falling in love. It started out like a lot of boy-love Thai movies but as the movie gathered speed they brought out something that was much deeper than puppy love. The family's reaction to the whole thing was so unique. Once again, not the usual way parents react when they find their son(s) are gay. And the supporting actors -- the four classmates -- are astounding. Usually you don't notice the supporting actors, but these ones played a strong role in this movie's foundation -- although the script failed to strengthen their role and some of their story-lines. Quote fine to have such supporting personalities to the two brothers. Thanks for a great movie.

Boy (I) (2009)
8/10
This one touches your heart, but not with sadness or joy, but with a feeling that's hard to describe
23 August 2014
I just watched this video. I thought it was going to be a lousy Filiipino movie with a terrible story line and terrible video production quality. Boy was I surprised. The lighting of the movie had a bit to be desired, but there was good work done on making the story flow. I rate this an 8 mostly because of some of the quality of the film (lighting and sound), but it deserves a 10 for the story line. I was so happy to see a treatment of a topic that is usually taboo in so many places, but seems to be an accepted fact in the Philippines -- macho dancers are not necessarily a bad profession. I thought it was going to be a mama's boy, but he's not -- especially the way he and his mother interact in the final scene. Too bad they didn't put that much effort into that closeness earlier in the movie. The two boys were evenly matched for attractiveness, fitting the roles perfectly. I thought Aries was too rough of a boy to be a good dancer, but he fit well. And "boy" was suited the role. The fish tanks was a weird part of the story. I'm sure someone must have had a lot of creative thinking to meld fish tanks with comic books and action figures for the boy. Great job by all, cast and crew.

Saw this in 79 when it came out, first French film I ever saw
23 April 2014
This was the first all French movie, without subtitles, that I saw. It really inspired me to learn improve my French. Its also the first time I ever saw the main actor (Delain) and so followed his movies after that. It got me thinking (I was only 19 years old at that time) about what life could be like in a modern war, this was before the wars we have had since (Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bosnia, etc.) I have been searching for this movie ever since, hoping that I can see it again to see how I would view it today more than 25 years later and with how the world has changed. As for M. Delain, he seems to have faded out of the movie world as time moves on, but he certainly stayed in my mind as my first French actor that I ever followed.
