Pratidwandi (1970)
Rebellious young man
Pratidwandi is the first part of Calcutta Trilogy series; this movie shows typical West Bengal and Bangladeshi graduate's story after completing graduation. Here Siddhartha is struggling to find a proper job after completing his degree. His younger sister who is working and his mother live in the same small apartment. He is honest by nature and did not want any prejudicial advantage to get a job nor associated with unethical activity but some aspects of the city made him unpeeled layers of his character. He incidentally met Charu and fell for her splendor but his struggle to get a job and the straining situation hallucinates him and made him do mishaps while facing a job interview. Then end up with a job that he never wanted to do and left the city & family for that.
Mr. Satyajit Ray's portrayed the character as "Rebellious young man for a cause" and Dhritiman played the character of Siddhartha impeccably. Ray's masterwork can be allied even today (2019) is some part of Indian subcontinent. I won't say this is his best creation but a contextual story of unemployed graduate's story of 1970's period where the government was much into structural development rather create more jobs to uproot the unemployment issue.
Jana Aranya (1975)
Movie for Startup Enthusiastic
Jana Aranya is the last part of Calcutta Trilogy series; this movie shows typical West Bengal, India and Bangladeshi graduate's story after completing graduation. The demand for jobs is sometimes quite a few time more than the actual vacancy. Most of the fresh graduates have to go with this phase, Jana Aranya movie shows how Somnath end up with simple business which connects sellers with potential clients and receive incentives and showed some common trick to get the job done. Somnath finds out a middleman "Dalal" needs to find the week/sweet spot to make the business deal and most of the times it depends on the decision maker's personal interest.
This movie is inspirational as well ABCD for many who enthusiastic about the startup industry. Mr. Satyajit Rays most of the movies as relevant today as was back that period which prodigious.
Bird Box (2018)
A lot of Cliches, watchable late night movie
Bird Box is a late night horror drama and will keep you glued from the very first scene to the last minute of the movie. The story is nothing extraordinary but bit different than a usual horror drama. Few critics say this could be a 20 minutes short film rather be a 124 minutes movie.
The plot of the movie describes no character can see the monster if anyone sees that monster even on tv or camera the person gets infected on eyes and commit suicide on immediate effect and this movie also carried this phenomenon for viewers as well. The plot is scattered, and some characters can see the monster and force others to see that, and there is no explanation (!) The story makes you glued to the end for an explanation, and suddenly the movie ends. The movie does not have a proper ending, and I feel like as a viewer I have the right to know the closure.
Sandra was terrific as usual; she comes back on 2018 with Ocean's Eight and Bird Box after a long break and her acting on Bird Box reminding me her acting on the blind side and the proposal. I would suggest you watch this movie without any high expectations.
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)
Perfect combinations of game and movie
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch is one of the perfect combinations of game and movie. This interactive movie will worth your time. You can alter the character and story for making a good or bad ending. After watching I end up with four different stories but Netflix says there are five main ending. When you watch it with a distinct character and story, you will feel like watching different movies. Not only a brilliant story but an interesting thought like Inception or Interstellar and you will drive the story to end.
For creativity, I would give 9 on 10; you would be amazed to see the advertisement later on tv what you decide to eat for breakfast. The music was splendid mainly transition of your decision on the plot. Well, don't search for any more review dive into the movie and explore.
Hasina: A Daughter's Tale (2018)
An Untold History
This historical documentary covers the story of Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana's life after the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family. Hasina: A Daughter's Tale is through the lens of both sisters' and their struggling life but covers a lot of untold stories. It gives a horizon to the audience about how their life changed after the assassination on 15th August 1975.
Here Sheikh Hasina opened her life stories and connected those dots from her childhood to liberation war till the life she is leading today. She was more into her father's dream than her personal life. She eager to come back to Bangladesh from India after almost six years and rebuild the political party also ask for justice for the assassination of her family, though it was not an easy journey and this documentary covers some of those events. Sheikh Hasina lost not only her family in 1975 but also sacrificed being with her kids (Joy and Putul) who studied abroad while she was in Dhaka and busy with political activity. Both sisters showcased the memory lane from days in Belgium, Germany, Delhi, and London. I would say they have a photographic memory about their life back in more than 45 years.
The making of the documentary was excellent, the background music by Mishra was splendid and overall, I will recommend you watch it.
