The Mandalorian: Chapter 17: The Apostate (2023)
Recap of Book of Boba Fett
Felt odd to go through the same plot points of Mando being a mandalorian no more and that he must redeem himself by going to the fountain of mandalore or whatever. Didn't we go through this the last time we saw him? Or did the creators think no one watched Boba Fett? Of course they didn't because Grogu is already back with Mando! What I'm getting to here is that this episode just felt like a quick recap of events that happened prior without setting up much of anything. It was entertaining though. I'll give it that. I'm not sure what to expect from this season, but I just hope it focuses more on Mandalorians overall.
Better Call Saul: Saul Gone (2022)
Bittersweet.
Saul Gone may not be the most action packed finale but it sure is a meaningful one to me and probably a lot of fans. All things come to an end in this tense and emotional episode. Amazing performances, some great callbacks, and a conclusion I find to be bittersweet, but we knew that this was never going to have a happy ending. Better Call Saul is one of the best shows I've had the privilege of watching and I am very happy with this conclusion.
Better Call Saul: Waterworks (2022)
Give Emmy's to Everyone.
"Waterworks" like Breaking Bad's "Granite State" is a perfect penultimate episode that intensifies expectations for an already highly anticipated finale by showcasing the many great talents of both the cast and crew. The writing, directing, and acting, you know, the usual great qualities we've seen from this show, are absolutely amazing. A scene including Rhea Seehorn's Kim Wexler is a standout that deserves the most praise possible. And those are just a couple of the many great moments of this episode. Vince Gilligan returned for one last episode and I can't thank him enough for bringing this great universe to fruition. This was a great sendoff for him as a writer of BB/BCS/EC.
Better Call Saul: Plan and Execution (2022)
Once again an intense pay off of massive proportions
I can't put into words how amazing this episode was. Even take out the scene everyone will be talking about, this episode is still perfect. Patrick Fabian gives one hell of a performance that matches Michael McKean's in "Chicanery." The pacing is also nonstop with barley anytime to catch your breath, until the commercials come on. This has easily become one of the best episodes of all television.
Halo: Emergence (2022)
It was fine until now.
I never would have thought I'd see John 117, the Master Chief reduced to an idiotic, emotional mess of a character in one episode of a tv show. I was fine with the previous episodes, even though John's story was odd and going off of canon, but this storyline is now laughably bad.
Cortana is the best part of this episode but it's bizarre seeing an overall accurate Cortana next to a Master Chief who doesn't want anything to do with her.
All I can hope for now is that this strange story arc with John somehow makes this show worth watching in the end.
Halo: Contact (2022)
A Surprisingly Good Start
When it comes to video game adaptations there are very few that are any good. As a massive Halo fan I wasn't expecting much from this show. None of the trailers did a good job of getting me excited and so I didn't feel a great desire to watch the first episode. But here I am.
I'd say this is a really good pilot episode. In terms of scale and world building, this episode introduces a lot, but I feel some things should have been kept for later episodes. The action is very good as well, surprisingly gory too. The acting was what I was most skeptical about, but for the most parts everyone is solid in their roles. I'm interested in how the story plays out from here and I hope it can remain consistent in quality.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
A messy conclusion to a messy show
If you're looking for a convoluted, cheap, poorly edited, and rushed finale, this episode will not disappoint. It really feels as if the writers were trying to quickly write their way to the end of this show so they could be done with it. A whole season and we barley saw any actual character development from Fett or Fennec. Even Mando's plot in this finale feels rushed and cheap at times. There are a few good moments, but wow was this finale a massive disappointment for me.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 2: The Tribes of Tatooine (2022)
Continuation of an unbalanced narrative, but still fun
After last week's not so progressive first episode, we now return to the same formula. It's like this show doesn't really know what it wants to be. Is it a continuation of Boba's journey from Mandalorian or is it a show about his story after Return of the Jedi. I would be fine if it it was only focused on the Sand People for the first few episodes rather than try to do both. The main problem is that it's not balanced. I want to see an equal amount of both timelines, but end up with what feels like 30% Present and 70% Past. I'm still entertained as always but hope to see a a more balanced or a singular narrative in the coming episodes.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 1: Stranger in a Strange Land (2021)
An odd first episode, but amazing nonetheless
For a first episode, there really isn't much story so far, just a big flashback of Boba's struggles after Return of the Jedi. It's very entertaining, but just as the story started to progress with the present timeline we get back to the flashbacks. All I can say now is that this episode was very enjoyable, but I wanted a bit more from the first episode. I'm hopeful for more from the coming episodes. And
Btw I absolutely love the tone and direction that these live action shows are getting. Wish that's how it was for the Sequels.
Young Justice: Tale of Two Sisters (2021)
Getting back to the good stuff.
After the boring political drama of the Martians, we finally get back to Earth. Artemis gets the attention this episode, dealing with the loss of Connor and the whereabouts of her sister. I love how the drama has been handled in this show and this episode continues to show how great the writing is. The balance of action and drama in this episode makes it my favorite episode of the season so far. We also got to see so many different less known characters this episode and I always like when they get some attention.
Young Justice: Involuntary (2021)
Not a fan of this arc.
Kinda of bummed that these first 4 episodes are centered on the Martians. Seems like we're getting more Martian screen time than our main characters. Politics stuff is really cringe at times and so over the top, probably because the voice acting for the martians doesn't so sound pleasant. I do like Beast Boy's story, but that's about it. I hope this is the last we see of the martians for a long time. Looking forward to the next arcs this season.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch: Kamino Lost (2021)
A disappointing finale to top off a disappointing first season.
This episode is pretty much just the batch escaping Kamino. That's it. A few interesting bits, but that's it. Unfortunately interesting doesn't mean surprising. It's a basic episode, which you think wouldn't be the case for the finale, but that's what it is. Perhaps the worst part of this finale is that it does nothing to interest viewers in the 2nd season. Nothing is hinted at that fans haven't already guessed and I'm not at all looking forward to season 2. All the cameos and surprise appearances really meant nothing in the end, and I can't help but think that the entire plot could have been done in 8 episodes, but of course filler makes up half of this show. Please, Filoni, do better next season. I'll always have faith in you, but this season was simply disappointing.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: One World, One People (2021)
Satisfying, yet slightly underwhelming finale.
I think that this finale wrapped things up quite nicely, with enough left open for a season 2, but I can't help but say that this finale was a bit underwhelming. First, the fight scenes are a pain to watch. So many cuts, horrible choreography, feels like I'm watching that scene in Taken 3 where there's 8 separate takes of Liam Neeson jumping over a fence. Just as fight scenes begin, the attention is taken somewhere else while the fight scene is happening off camera, only to cut back for a few seconds for some bad fighting.
John Walker kind of randomly walks on screen at one point, with no build up at all. The one bald guy from The Winter Soldier is in here, but serves no purpose whatsoever. And Karli, the mediocre villain of the month, does nothing memorable either, although SPOILERS.......... (her death is hilarious to watch.)
Bucky is Bucky, always great to watch, gets to make amends. Sharon plays an important role that surprised me, but Sam is really the one who shines in this finale, by becoming the new Captain America we've been wanting him to be. Sam in the new suits rocks. All the Flight scenes were great and is what kept me enjoying some of the action scenes. And it was great to finally see Bradley get the honor and respect he deserves. Overall a pretty solid finale, but nothing too amazing.
The Walking Dead: Here's Negan (2021)
Here's Negan!!!
We finally get to see Negan's backstory in this episode and it did not disappoint. The Morgans are absolutely perfect as Negan and Lucille, both giving great performances. Without a doubt, the best episode from these 6 bonus episodes, which overall have been pretty forgettable. Would have been fine if we just got an hour or 2 hour long Negan back story than 5 forgettable episodes.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Snyder Cut, better in every way.
I was one of many who watched the 2017 Justice League thinking it was very odd and also cringe worthy at times. Though Zack's name was on it, it felt completely different from his previous films.
Snyder's Cut is everything that Justice League 2017 should have been. Characters have depth, including the villains, humor is actually funny, music is amazing, epic action scenes, and no obvious reshoots. For a 4 hour long film, it flows pretty well, of course there are a few scenes that could have been cut, but this is Snyder's holy grail. I understand that he wants to put everything he can into it, including a brand new Knightmare scene with Affleck's Batman and Leto's Joker. Which is amazing btw, but that's where the movie really started to feel like 4 hours, but luckily the movie is about over by that time. Overall, Zack Snyder's Justice League is an epic superhero film that blows the 2017 version out of the field and every way.
The Walking Dead: One More (2021)
The Last of Us vibes
This episode reminded me a lot of the Last of Us with its soundtrack and tone. It felt different from the average Walking Dead episode. I was worried that the interaction with Patrick's character was going to take a predictable route, but I was genuinely surprised by the episode. A lot better than last week's episode.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (2020)
A Near Perfect Finale for me. The Future of Star Wars is in good hands
I was going into this finale feeling that I knew most of what was going to happen, but I ended up being very surprised by the events that occurred. The action, tension, emotion, score, effects are all amazing, but I'm getting a little "Storm Trooper fatigued" I get it's a joke that troopers have bad aim, but it's getting to the point where it's not even interesting to watch them get wrecked anymore, especially after seeing so many troopers this season. Other than that minor complaint this a great finale that has got me excited for many future Star Wars projects.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 10: The Passenger (2020)
Filler Episode that didn't Need to Happen
C'mon Lucasfilm, save the filler episodes for your animated shows where you don't just have 8 episodes per season. This episode was pretty uneventful. Mando gets a new companion and has to deliver it to some planet, but gets sidetracked so the plot can't progress. Nice music, performances, effects, and Baby Yoda moments, but nothing here story wise.
Fear the Walking Dead: Welcome to the Club (2020)
Pretty Good, but what was that opening scene??
So people are giving this episode a 10/10 but are forgetting about the idiotic opening scene. So there's a room of walkers who are all sticky, but everyone gets killed because they slip on this liquid and are pulled in the room cuz the door won't close. Instead of just backing up everyone tries to kill them, only to slip and get killed. Then the main dude tells some guy to shut the door, but he doesn't, so he goes to shut the door and dies just like everyone else. Pretty stupid people here. Rest of the episode is pretty good tho.
The Walking Dead: A Certain Doom (2020)
Overall, pretty entertaining, yet flawed finale.
I found this episode to be pretty good considering it's been 6 months since the last episode and my interest for the show has died down. This episode is filled with tension, action, and great characters moments, but Beta's defeat is a bit of a disappointment. He is easily killed by Daryl after a very short, and I mean VERY short, fight with Negan. Though I will say it is a better death than his comic book version. Also, when getting rid of the herd, Lydia and Carol, with no masks on, just lay by a rock while all the walkers walk past them. You'd think at least one walker would notice them? Other than Beta's death and some minor plot holes, it's a pretty solid season finale.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Victory and Death (2020)
A Strong Finale, but a bit rushed...
For many fans this will be a great conclusion to the Clone Wars, and for me it was a very good finale. There are many great emotional moments between Ahsoka and Rex, a very "Forced Unleashed" moment with Maul, and a few surprises. The ending is good, but I feel like it was a bit rushed. There should have been more dialogue between our main characters that set things up for Rebels, an extra 5-10 minutes to wrap things up perfectly would have been great, but overall it is still a solid finale.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: The Phantom Apprentice (2020)
A Defining moment in Star Wars
I cannot stress this enough, Sam Witwer as Maul is one of the greatest things to happen to Star Wars. Maul's dialogue in this episode is so amazing, I could have blindfolded myself and just listen to Maul talk the whole time. So many references to Revenge of the Sith, THE best lightsaber fight this series has ever shown, a spectacular musical score, beautiful animation, and lots of tension. The only thing that would have made this episode better is if Duel of Fates played during the lightsaber battle, but other than that, this is a perfect episode of The Clone Wars.
Better Call Saul: Something Unforgivable (2020)
Not the finale I was expecting, but still a good time.
I'm just going to start off by saying this was my least favorite finale of the show, and that is because, to me, it felt like a season premiere episode rather than a finale. This episode is setting up a lot of plot for the final season and it really has got me excited, but overall it does not do it for me as a finale. It is a slow episode up until the last 15 minutes, but it does have some good character moments, acting, music, and cinematography as usual.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Old Friends Not Forgotten (2020)
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING FROM START TO FINISH.
THIS is what we've all been waiting for, this is the Clone Wars we wanted! More cinematic than ever. After a pretty good Bad Batch story arc, and an unbearable Annoying sisters arc, we have the Siege of Mandalore.
This episode is without a doubt one of the best openers for a story arc and one of the best episodes of Clone Wars. So many great character moments between our favorites: Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and Rex. Stunning animation from start to finish and an amazing musical score (the Original Theme at the beginning tho) This is also the longest episode of the season, so expect the next three episodes to be longer. Absolutely Brilliant!
Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Dangerous Debt (2020)
Waste of an episode! Need more Story Arcs!
Other than some minor character development and the appearance of Bo-Katan, this episode does absolutely nothing to further the plot. Our characters start the episode in a cell and the episode ends with them in the same cell. I still have no idea why this season is only 12 episodes long. With only 3 story arcs. It's very disappointing, hopefully these last 5 episodes can be a fitting end to the Clone Wars, but I highly doubt it.
We should have gotten the Boba Fett/Cade Bane arc and the Son of Dathomir arc aswell. Would have made a fitting end to popular characters like Cade Bane and Mother Talzin, while furthering Boba and Maul's arc.
