The Boogeyman (2023)
Skip it
Skip it. Trust me. I took my 16 yo because he actually wanted to see it, he liked it, said it got his blood pumping. I'm happy for him, it's good "gateway horror" for the young or those who aren't fans of horror . If you're a horror fan, stay away. Far, far away.
I was extremely bored. The jump scares were just really loud music to make you jump, I was hoping for more since the girl from Yellowjackets was in it. The best part of the movie was the little girl from Kenobi. I was just hoping for more.
Update - I've read others reviews on the movie now that it's been out a few days, I don't know what the heck people are talking about the cinematography, it was too dark to see anything! The story was lame, it's been fine before, I'm sticking with my it's ok "gateway" horror to get kids interested or for those who don't like traditional horror movies.
The Deep House (2021)
Wish I had looked at the reviews first
What an absolute boring waste of time movie. Nothing scary happens, it's mostly dark & bad camera work. Ridiculous, sorry I wasted my time on this nonsense.
You Should Have Left (2020)
Good, but not horror
I didn't find out about this movie until my mum texted me two days before it's VOD release asking me if I planned on watching it because she'd like to watch but was afraid it would be too scary. I watch a lot of horror.
That being said, this movie is NOT a horror movie, it's a thriller, a well done, well acted thriller, a haunted house thriller. It's rare in these types of films you care about the characters & I did. I was devastated when Bacon was, I was happy with his movie daughter while she ran through the yard screaming "it's so beautiful", I was scared when she was scared.
The child actress is definitely one to watch, the amount of lines she had, her acting, she is absolutely amazing & I adore her.
The movie, it's good, not horror, it wasn't scary, they used music to make you jump, a few legit jump scares. A good haunted house thriller.
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
I wanted to like it
I've seen the remake multiple times, this is my first time watching the original. I wish I'd seen it first. It's so boring.
Amusement (2008)
I wanted to like it....
I mean, it wasn't the worst film I've ever seen, not by far, it was just SO boring. I knew what was going to happen before it happened. It's the perfect movie for a 10 yo's Sleepover.
Brightburn (2019)
This is why you don't take a baby home from a crashed UFO
It's obviously not going to end well, you're not going to get a Superman, because Superman isn't real. I think the young man playing Brandon did a fine job acting. In the movie, He was fine until he hit puberty, so his acting strange & different once he was changing makes sense. He was menacing & pretty scary. I was annoyed when I first saw the trailer for this movie, I felt like they were ripping off Superman. It was much better than I thought it was going to be.
Abby's (2019)
Please give it a chance
I'll watch Neil Flynn in anything! He was great on Scrubs, but I adored him on The Middle. Natalie Morales was perfect on Santa Clarita Diet, really happy to see her get her own show. So far it's a fun, probably fluffy show. With the main character being a Vet, I'd like to see some growth there, maybe with her having a hard time getting back into society, as happens to a lot of our Vets. I really hope they give this show a chance to grow, I'll keep watching.
The Twilight Zone (2019)
Expected much more from such a "visionary"
I can't believe the episode they opened the series with, The Comedian, it was idiotic, stupid, slow, boring. I knew right away what was going to happen. The "this season" after the episode, included a lot of actors I like & actually make the series look much better. The second episode, Nightmare at 30,000 Feet, was actually much better. I'm not thrilled at having to pay to watch, the second episode even though it was better, I'm not sure it's worth continuing to pay.
Killer High (2018)
Tons of campy gory FUN!!
I love a good scary horror movie, but I love campy horror even more. This was over the top, silly, gory, just plain good fun!! I absolutely love it!,
Slender Man (2018)
Believe the bad reviews because it's THAT BAD
I wish I would've believed the bad reviews. It wants to be a grown up scary movie & it's not. They could show this at a slumber party for 6 yo's & they'd get bored. It's juvenile, boring & extremely stupid. If you have to see it, wait until it comes out on a movie channel. Please. It's beyond idiotic.
Pengabdi Setan (2017)
ANOTHER disappointment
I'm five days into my yearly October Horror moviethon, I've been eagerly awaiting this movie as I get emails from Shudder about up coming movies. This was such a disappointment. They had two versions available to watch, one subtitled (which I prefer when I'm not crafting) & one English dub. That I actually really appreciated since I'm crocheting a blanket & it's difficult to keep looking back & forth to read the text.
I settled in to watch & was let down yet again. Not scary at all, you could show this to Elementary school children & they wouldn't be scared even a little.
The acting was good, the story idiotic & the ending, what even was that? I'm just so tired of being promised an extremely scary movie & being left wanting AGAIN.
Malevolent (2018)
Disappointed
I wanted to like this, I really did. I was excited to watch, but it just wasn't any good. The acting was ok, not even a little bit scary and the story wasn't that good.
Slumber (2017)
Wasn't that bad
It was certainly better than Mara, what a snooze fest.
