90 min I'll never get back
7 April 2024
Let me start by saying I like thrillers and psychological horror movies. This while not breaking any new ground could have been so much better. Lazy writing creates plot holes you could drive a car through.

This movie is beyond slow. I kept waiting for it to go somewhere and with about 15 min to go you're told the premise of the movie and as wild as it is you're just supposed to except it. It could have been believable if it been set up better. The movie isn't scary it's just boring.

The acting isn't horrible the story just doesn't go anywhere. I have never reviewed a movie and said don't waste your time but I guess never say never, right.

Rambo (2008)

Violent with a purpose
31 July 2023
While First Blood will always hold a place in my heart as the first action movie I fell in love with growing up, I believe this is the best film of the series.

Yes, this film is very violent, Expendables level violent, but Stallone wanted to highlight a real war that the world was ignoring. People said that the M2 .50 cal used was exaggerated but if anything it was toned down.

Rambo seems more human in this movie than any of the previous films. We see him hurting and not wanting to help the church group trying to get into Burma. After he is convinced to help we see the group is captured and it's up to Rambo to save the day but this is the 1st film in with he's not alone but working with a team of mercenaries. We get to see how Rambo easily could have worked with his unit. He's a natural leader while not putting himself above everyone else.

The Prophecy (1995)

Great supernatural story
26 July 2023
I am not sure if this was supposed to be a horror movie or a creepy thriller and I don't really care. I just really enjoyed it overall. It's not often that you find a good religious scary movie that's not too preachy and this definitely fits. While the special effects are somewhat dated they are used very sparingly.

Christopher Walken and Viggo Mortensen (the archangel Gabriel and the devil) deliver fantastic performances, especially Viggo who is truly terrifying. I really wish he had been given a larger part in the film.

The character of Mary is exceptionally well played and returns for a cameo in the 3rd film as does Madge the waitress. It's rare to see a young girl play an evil character so well.

Fallen (1998)
9/10
Hugely underrated
26 July 2023
Fallen is still one of my favorite movies. Even after so many years of still stands up for a couple of reasons, fantastic writing, an all star cast that give fantastic performances, and no CGI.

Denzel delivers an Oscar worthy performance as a detective trying to catch what he thinks is a copy-cat killer. While this movie deals with some religious themes it's not throwing religion in your face. The concept was fairly original in it's time and while this is more of a thriller than a horror movie the realism does make one wonder if such things could exist.

If you haven't seen it this is definitely a movie that is worth your time.

Strange movie with weak acting
16 April 2023
Thought I would give this a shot after seeing a trailer on Netflix. Super slow movie and as others have noted #1 the acting was fairly weak. I'm not sure how people didn't see the big twist coming after the 1st 30 min. I finished the film just to be sure but it was as I suspected.

Definitely a very low budget film that had promise but it's just too slow and uneventful to take serious.

The parents are horrible and probably the weakest actors in the film. The special effects are very subpar even for a low budget film.

I like indie films and respect filmmakers that have a vision and don't have big Hollywood money. However, in this case I wish I had passed on this one.

Best cooking competition show
10 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Easily the best cooking competition show currently on TV. This is a show the whole family can watch and it really makes you want to try new things in the kitchen. While the randomizer makes it harder and more interesting it still contra down to who cooks the best dish.

In season 4 we got more than just the usual food network stars competing for the $100,000 prize.

I would love to see them expand to 64 chefs giving more opportunity to standouts like this year's Britt Rescigno who came out of nowhere to make the final 4.

Guy Fieri just has a presence that draws you in and makes you realize these are all real people competing, they aren't million dollar celebrity chefs who don't need the money. This prize could open a new restaurant and employ a lot of people.

As long as there are new seasons my family will be watching.

Ugh why?
8 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ok 1st. I get this is a much darker Sabrina and I was fine with that but the whole Satan worship thing takes it a bit too far. Witches and Wiccan's got their power from mother earth not the devil.

Also, when did it become ok for boys to punch girls in the face. I don't think it's ok for boys to hit girls and to make it look like there's nothing wrong with it.

The acting isn't bad but there are so many things just wrong with this show. I just don't get what they were thinking.

I don't get taking a show that basically uses characters names and nothing else. Call it something else, don't destroy a shows reputation because you can't sell your idea on its own.

Nope (2022)
9/10
I think I watched a different movie
23 November 2022
I had unfortunately avoided the movie due to a lot of bad reviews and I'm really sorry I didn't watch this sooner. I had the opportunity to see it on a flight and then bought the 4k blu ray to see again when I got home.

Now after having seen the film it's hard to ignore the one and two star reviews that sadly only seem to know what happened in the previews. Not every person will respond to every movie equally but at least watch the movie before trashing it, the cast, director, etc. Ok I'll step off my soapbox and begin my review of the film Nope.

IMO this was one of the best acted horror movies I've seen in a very long time. I believed the characters and could see real people acting in a very similar way if presented with similar circumstances. I found the acting to be top notch. It is a longer movie but at no time was I bored. There is a lot of information given to us and the pacing felt right to absorb everything we are presented. This is not a slasher type of horror but it is a psychological horror film that to me makes it all the more scary. I don't think it's a spoiler to say it's a movie that the main antagonist is a UFO since we are given that much in the preview. We follow 2 different families and how each responds to the excitement that could arise from such a discovery.

When things go bad how would you react. Would it be too late?

Ignore the haters and watch for yourself.

This is how to make a series from movies
22 October 2022
I have watched several TV series that were from movies and this is how to do it. Without giving spoilers, people complain that it's not scary enough or angry that there is a gay character.

This show is awesome because it has so many actual people from the movies. The same actor that played Chuck, Andy, Tiffany and others.

I love it because it gives us so much backstory that fills in a bunch of holes from the movies and it doesn't pretend the movies don't exist.

I'm only on episode 6 but I love this show. Don't let haters stop you from missing out on the best series I've seen in the past few years.

The Batman (2022)
7/10
Dark and slow
18 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This new reboot is very dark & very slow. I love the DC universe and came in with very low expectations but in 1989 I was willing to give Michael Keyton a chance so I had to give Robert Pattinson the same chance. He pulls off a a decent young batman who has only been at it for 2yrs. The 1st half of the movie could have been condensed into about 10 min. The movie finds its pace about 2hrs in. It feels more like a Godfather reboot instead of a Batman film. It does a good job introducing all the main characters, my only hope is if there is a sequel it moves a little faster. If you make it through the movie the ending is worth it.

Spoilers ahead

Pattinson is the 1st emo batman and is trying to figure out how to be Batman. We see him without a lot of super tech and a batmobile that looks like a souped-up dodge charger. He seems to have body armor that will stop anything even a shotgun blast at close range. He has a few grappling hooks and a flare.

The acting is good but suffers due to the mind numbingly slow pace. I liked the movie I just wish it moved faster. It was difficult to stay engaged because it moved so slowly.

I have no issues with long movies. Zack Snyder proved a 4hr Justice League still left fans wanting more.

This isn't that. I really think this should have been billed as Godfather meets batman.

Most under-rated movie
7 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First off you really need to watch the director's cut and the newly released 4k single disc restores the iMAX scenes to their correct format.

When this film was first released, all people could talk about was the dream sequences that they couldn't figure out. Zack Snyder had fans hooked wanting to know where this crazy adventure would lead. Apparently, to a Justice League trilogy, that now will never see the light of day. This film set the stage and if the studio had let Snyder release his original vision it would have made a lot more money and would have been received much better by the general audience.

Deadpool proved that a rated R comic book movie not only works but can make just as much if not more than PG-13 films. How many films do the studios need to ruin before they finally get it. Suicide Squad is a perfect example and had the opportunity to really expand DC's Snyder-verse. The studios misguided attempt to keep it PG-13 ruined the film.

This film really set the stage by showing Batman who is now older and more sinical then we are used to seeing him. Ben Affleck isn't the late twenties early thirties Batman in his prime. After 20 plus years as Batman he is now much darker and flawed then we have ever seen him. Superman is not the picture-perfect American hero he is portrayed in previous films and really struggles with society that has turned on him and inner termoil. The first time we see a picture of Wonder-woman we get to hear her theme for the first time letting us know she has a major role to play.

Becky (II) (2020)
6/10
Bratty teen turns psychotic
31 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
We meet Becky after her mother has died and she is angry with the world. Joel McHale plays the father who seems to have moved on from the loss of wife rather quickly as he tells his daughter that he plans to marry the new girlfriend.

The daughter runs off as Kevin James and his gang attack. Becky goes from being a brat to a psycho killer in a heartbeat.

As others have stated it's a home alone gone evil. Becky who acted like a spoiled child suddenly knows how to set deadly traps. A possible sequel is set up with the question of what is the key for?

Becky can kill her way through more people as she gets closer to the truth.

Give it a chance
16 May 2021
How dare someone make a movie that doesn't follow a book word for word. Get over it, a movie should allow you to escape reality for a short time. I've seen at least 5 different films "based" on the phenomenal book but it's fun to see something with a new twist.

This is a fun movie that while at its heart is The Three Musketeers it's a fun new take with some great special effects and really great 3D .

Why the hate?
25 June 2019
I think most of the 1 star reviews are from people that haven't seen the film and are simply upset at the idea behind the movie. I waited a long time to see the film because of the harsh ratings but it really doesn't deserve them. The movie is about friendship and being ok with being different. How is that 1 star worthy when you have great choice talent to back up Sony animation. It really is worth seeing if you are late to the game as I was.

No redeeming qualities
9 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I can't remember ever giving a movie 1 star. I can usually find something redeeming but this movie seems like someone lost a bet. 1st Harley Quinn is crazy but somehow we are to believe that she gets out of Arkam and becomes a waitress. We are treated to not one but two full length karaoke songs in a bar where knight wing dances around like an idiot and Batman taps his fingers. Any momentum the film had dies. At the end swamp thing shows up to say nothing and then vanishes. I feel like they had 10 min of material and said how can we make this into a full length movie. If you get rid of all the stupid songs, Harley farting in the Batmobile that now can seat like 6 for some reason, monologues for no reason you have a 10 min movie. I just can't think of one redeeming quality this film has. This is something that seems more like a fan that doesn't understand anything in the DC universe put together.
