Not for me
27 March 2022
Lots of high scoring reviews on here and the 8.5 average made me give it a go.

I'm not knocking anyone who scored it either high or low but I didn't like it and found it a bit boring in the middle. As for messages I couldn't pick up any message beyond. 'Don't cook the goose that laid the golden egg'

Worth a watch

A good film let down slightly by the trend for having a loud soundtrack with low volume mumbled dialogue. I found the music score a bit repetitive and irritating too.

Does anything happen?

25 minutes in and one woman had employed another woman to help with harvest then lots of women were cutting wheat. I've persevered with this type of slow film before but never been rewarded for doing so. On this occasion I switched it off.

Showing it's age?
9 June 2021
I've just finished season 1 in 2021 and stuck with it because of the high IMDB rating. If I'd seen it when it was first shown on UK tv I might have agreed with the rating but having watched lots of other Scandi and European series I found this quite frustrating. It was too long for a start and Sarah was really unlikeable being so self centred; she might have got there in the end but caused devastation along the way and her behaviour should have resulted in her sacking.

Thankfully I've never suffered the loss of a child but I can't believe any parents would behave as these were within days of their loss.

Why did anything only happen in the dark - especially searches?

As is the norm for a 'who dunnit', everyone behaved shiftily and was reluctant to tell the truth to the police but in this there were instances when the truth finally came out that you were left wondering "why the hell didn't they just tell the truth six episodes ago as no-one cares about your 'little secret'"

I don't know about you but if I knew who'd committed a major crime I'd be 'Bloody hell it was John Smith' to everyone I met but in this drama people start to stammer out their life story and just before they get to the point their head explodes!

Given that other reviews suggest this series is the best of the bunch I'll give the others a miss.

Not my cup of tea
19 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I normally use IMDb reviews as a gauge to decide whether it's worth watching a movie as the audience is usually more honest than the TV listings guide. Sadly not on this occasion and I'm baffled by the IMDb score.

It's one of those movies where people repeatedly do stupid things that make their situation worse but winds you up.

Early on the main character does something stupid and badly cuts his hand and having dropped the keys to his own car steals another. Then, when the bad guys attack the house he's gone to, he tries to drive off in..... the car he had to abandon because he lost his keys! How did he get it back? And to boot, his hand seems to have miraculously healed.

Fearing that this movie would continue to wind me up until my head exploded I decided to stop it there and then. Pain over.

Compliance (2012)

It would be garbage if it were not a true story
9 February 2014
On the 1st February 2014 author bunnywuv reviewed this film with a heading Stop! Strip search time... and rated it 1 out of 10.

Except for one large point I agree with everything they say in their review effectively that the film is totally implausible and unbelievable. BUT this film is based on true events. Now many films claim this only to be a loose interpretation and highly fictionalised version of the actual events. Today I Googled "what is the film compliance based on" and found another movies web site that shows the actual CCTV footage of the real life event along with clips of interviews with the victim and the manager. Dig this out and you'll find it as disturbing as the film itself.

As for the rating, I've given it 10 not because I enjoyed the film but because I don't want to bring down the average score. No one should like this film but, and only because it is based on true events, it does make compelling viewing.
