The Maury Povich Show (1991)
Alright for some laughs, but...
Believe it or not it's actually an okay but pretty degrading show, mainly because of the paternity test shows, the ones that are shown the most often now. Some woman, black or white, is shown talking about how her partner denies being the father of a child or children and the way the video is shown makes the audience get behind her and pity her, but when the guy comes on he rants on about how he's not the father and saying "Shanequa, after this proves I'm not the father leave me alone," followed by him being booed by the audience. Then comes the results, and if he is the father the woman shouts in his face saying "I told you so," while he sits there and plays it cool. If he's proved not which is pretty often, then the woman runs backstage crying or whatever, while the man jumps around, happy as can be, and sometimes the woman comes back on the show after having tested more than 10 men, ending with the same results. Even if it does make you laugh a little bit, this makes both men look bad because it gives the false illusion that men are terrible fathers and women can't be sluts. Well guess what? If some woman comes on the show more than 10 times looking for the father then obviously she's been sleeping around, and yet for some unknown reason the audience still backs her, and seems to ignore the guy who was put through some nonsense in the first place. And the fact that the couples aren't that good looking doesn't help either.
Then there's the segments about teenage sluts who do drugs, beat their mothers, and have sex for the sole purpose of having brain-dead children. These annoy me the most because after watching them, I notice it's always the mothers bringing them on the show and crying, after doing little to nothing to stop them from being trashy and how come they haven't beaten these kids' brains in yet? And plus you never ever see the boyfriends or fathers of these girls and try to hear from them. So then this dude named D West comes on and yells at the girls, which I will admit is one of my favorite parts, hoping to give them a reality check and then making them spend a night in jail, and then the girls are "somehow" redeemed a day or two later. You can tell some of them are putting on a show just to look good and some are actually reformed from experience.
Then there's the less common segments, like the ones where Jack Hanna comes and shows everyone animals, which gets a thumbs up from me because it's educational and I myself am an animal lover. Also, segments where some guy or lady shows tapes of police chases, car accidents, robberies, and other crazy moments are fine by me too.
I don't really watch the ones where people with strange conditions come on because it's kinda insulting to them.
Overall it's not a terrible show, but it's not a good show either, it's just an okay show that's good for some laughs and the frequent "you are NOT the father." Some say Jerry Springer is better, but hey, at least every one of Maury's shows doesn't feature some rednecks who look like they've never seen a comb in their lives.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
It was fun to play. but short though.
I bought this game back in August and I don't understand why people constantly thrash this game. Sure the graphics are pretty outdated and not completely realistic, but you'll still be able to recognize Obi-wan and Anakin when you see them. And the environments look real, too, so that's an accomplishment.
The sound was good and the music is typical of any Star Wars game, but the voicing was something left to be desired. I don't think the real actors put the voices in for the game, but they sound close enough. When I hear Anakin's voice, it sounds like he's just woken up from a long nap.
Gameplay is amazing, being able to cut up droids, the clones, fellow Jedi and whatnot, but it could've been longer. I'd like to have seen a level where you can play as Yoda vs. Emperor (though there is a bonus level where the short, green dude is playable) Overall its a good game and look past the graphics to get to the real core.
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
The end of Star Wars , but it was a great ending.
At long last, the final part in the saga of what is considered the greatest series ever is delivered. Episode III was definitely the best in the prequel series, but all six movies were excellent, however. Anyway, you're probably wondering what goes on in between, huh? So it's 3 years after AOTC and the movie starts out with a huge space battle like in "Return of the Jedi," and as we expected, it's Obi-Wan and Anakin in the midst of it, and they eventually have to rescue the Chancellor (Palpatine) who is held captive on a starship headed by droid leader General Grievous. Then Anakin kills Dooku by cutting his hands off and then his head, which is kinda cruel.
A lot of other things happen in between, like how Padme reveals to Anakin that she is pregnant with a baby, who is going to be Luke, but he is having bad dreams of Padme dying in childbirth and so he goes to, not Obi-wan, but Palpatine, which as we all should by now, after seeing the last five, is the evil Sith lord. Anakin saves the old bat and is told to go "bring peace to the empire," by killing off everyone in the temple...including the children.
Undoubtedly, one of the best parts in the movie is the fight between Obi-wan and Anakin on the lava planet, which is where Anakin loses, gets charred up, and needs the suit to survive. You may also be surprised to learn that Yoda loses his duel with the Emperor, which made me sad, given that he performed well in the last ten minutes of AOTC. But if he did win, then the original trilogy wouldn't make a lot of sense and that's just how it happens.
Overall, a fitting end to a more-than-good series. It is rated PG-13 for a lot of dark content, so either cover your children's eyes or don;t bring them at all: the burning of Anakin was quite disturbing to me. YOu must go see this movie, no matter what anyone says, get out of the house and see this movie or rent it or download, I don't care, just watch it all!
Digimon: Digital Monsters (1999)
It's definitely better!
The day this first came out, I thought it was a bootleg Pokemon, being the Pokemon fan I was. Nowadays, I've gotten into it and it BEATS Pokemon by a long, long, LONG shot. For Pokemon, you only have 3 main characters wandering around, meeting other people in places that they will never see again, and that annoying Team Rocket. For Digimon, you have 8 kids with 8 somewhat adorable monsters that can change into stronger, better-looking monsters monsters that change digevolve at will. I mean, how can Charizard beat Agumon when he can digevolve into WarGreymon and throw a ball of fire at him, or do that tornado-ish trick and rip him to pieces like in "Episode 43: Playing Games." Also, the characters (especially Matt) start out as jerks and come out as best friends, whereas Team Rocket started out as crap and is still crap. Overall, the action, characters, plots, and villains beat out Pokemon.
