Great Movie, More of a Drama than Comedy
5 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Really enjoyed this movie. I think if you go into as a comedy it's disappointing. But if you pay attention to the theme you find the real value behind the movie and its message.

Not all Blakc people have found their confidence and identity in predominantly white spaces, and this movie champions the insecure, introverted, awkward Black person.

It's a good movie about empowerment, and the magic is so minimal, that it emphasizes the reality of what Black people need to feel empowered in spaces they don't feel comfortable in. The "magic" throughout this movie is really just being a mental health counselor to the fraile egos of the people they come across in white society.

Most importantly, it's about breaing free from the old guard and old ways that previous Black generations have created and allowing the younger generation to break rules and redefine the Black experience for themselves and others.

I think it was presented as comedy to make the conversation lighter. Great cast. The romance aspect is simple, but I like a bit of rom-com in stories. Hope they make a part 2.

Sweet Potatoes of Barbados!
6 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
That's the funniest line throughout season 11. This new hulu season is rough. I feel like ive seen every episode 10 times before.

Where's the future? Where's the Rama? Maybe they're trolling us. But everything is a remake. Back to the old moon moon? Santa Claus; in August? Bruh!

Futurama is the best animated series ever. It has amazing longevity and throughout the 10th season, there was still creativity, heart, and a sense of aw. That final episode with Fry and Leila, was 👨‍🍳😘

I know they've done it all. But something is missing from this new season. It feels like they used AI to create character voices. Everyone shows up! Again, a Christmas episode in August? Make season 12 legit!

Amazing and Beautiful!
31 March 2023
Just finished watching this. A classic story on losing love and finding new romance, but in so many ways elevated.

The visuals in this movie are really amazing. Vibrant colors, great fashion, and beautiful scenery add onto the uniqueness and artistry of this film and really sets it apart from similar themed films.

The chemistry and dialogue between characters feels natural, fun, and inviting. I love the storytelling dynamics and the variious methods used by the director to give us a front row seat to the thoughts and feelings of the characters when they're sharing stories about their past.

The family cookout scene was one of my favorite scenes.

Hope to see more from this cast and crew!

House Party (I) (2023)

A Great Remix To A Classic
7 March 2023
Initially I was skeptical because I grew up on the classic House Party movies. But then I realized that this wasn't for old heads for me.

This movie is hilarious. It feels remenisicent of the energy of the original, but it's a modern twist that relates to the younger Black generation. It almost has an Atlanta vibe (salute to Stephen Glover), but the characters feel fresh, have great chemistry and the representation of Blackness in this movie is diverse and beautiful.

Great sets, fresh drip, and important dialogue on brotherhood, responsibility, and chasing a dream. I'd like to see the cast back for a House Party 2.

Amazing Emotionally Powerful Film
6 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Just finished watching this film.

Although there have been films with similar themes, this film offered something different.

Femi left the comfort of a foster home, where he was loved and valued to go live with his biological mother who abuses and degrades him. Childhood innocence ripped apart, Femi does what many kids do, he transitions into toeing the line of violence.

This movie is an amazing coming of age story. Delaing with isolation, violence, a toxic home life, and trying to find your identity through it all and not we swallowed by temptation or hatred.

The last half hour was beautiful. Femi discovers his legacy and find truth in who he wants to be and finally understands his mother. Going home brings clarity and this movie is a beautiful representation of finding self, home, and love.

Great Romance and Chemitsry
17 January 2023
I'm a sucker for a good romance film and this one didn't disappoint.

Beautiul visuals, a stylish wardrobe, great chemistry and a fun love story on living in the moment, taking chances, embracing fear and balancing personal goals with romance.

This may be one the best romcoms I've seen a while. The story feels standard: meet, discover each other's passions, see how love falls apart in other people, and... But the chemistry of the characters and actors feels more effortless, loving, and fun compared to a lot of modern romcoms.

This is good enough to deserve a sequel. Maybe "The Baby Shower Year" or something less cheesy.

A Good Bromance Film
12 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed this film. It wasn't groundbreaking but Rel's performance was hilarious and it was nice to to see a diverse group of personalities.

Yea it's a bit cheesy and underwhelming, but its a reemergence of bromances, good storytelling on friends being there for each other, and taking risks in life. How many people would actually take a next day flight for the possibility of romance?

The acting in hicksville tough to digest. But each of the different friends had something fun and unique. They were genuniliny themselves and didnt have to hide who they were. It's hard to find true bromance anymore :(. It's funnier than most people's lives.

The Parent 'Hood (1995–1999)

One of the Funniest Family shows Ever
1 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I grew up watching the Parent 'Hood as a teen. I rewatched it these past few months for my podcast and I never stopped laughing until Wendell (Faizon Love) was written out.

Although everyone does great work, The characters CeeCee, Nicholas, and Wendell really make this one fo the funniest shows I've ever seen. I couldn't stop laughing when they were on screen.

The writing is smart, the costume designs during Robert's daydreams were amazing, and the show offered a ncie break from the drags of boring and stereotypical Black television.

If a show you grew up on makes you laugh like you're a kid, then it can truly stand the test of times.

More flava than The Cosby Show, funnier than any of the other goofy shows that kept being pushed in the late 90s. Only reason I gave it a 9 is because seaosn 5 is missing the magic.

Great work.

An Amazing Documentary
9 April 2022
I've heard of Dick Grgoey, but watching this documentary superseded all the stories about him. What an amazing soul, leader, activisit, comedian, and human being.

The storytelling is phenomenal, and I was constantly on the edge wondering what was next in his story. Peoplelike Dick Gregory, who are willing to sacrifice their comfort for the social movements that impact communities they love should be championed more.

The One and Only!

Beautiful Story, Amazing Acting
5 January 2022
I've never heard about Dana Canedy so this entire story is new to me and I loved it. Devotion, effort, and growth. And a beautiful, effortless and fun love,

The flashback scenes felt very true to their time and the language felt nostalgic. "Guess what?" "Chicken Butt" That was classic for some reason back in the day.

The only shortcoming is the overall lack of emotion connection. I didn't feel the pain throughout the story. Maybe it was the dialogue or I was emotionally elsewhere. I'll give it another watch and update if anything changes.

It's Cool, But It's Missing Flava.
30 December 2021
With only two episodes, I think the show is cool. It's not that funny to me but most new shows aren't. It feels like a mix of Insecure, FRIENDS, and You're The Worst.

All the male characters come off as beta personalities while the only female has an alpha personality, which feels weird. I think it's hard for people to see themselves in the characters when nothing really sets them apart with the exception of Noah who is just play-do soft. Neediness isn't funny.

I'll update my rating once more episodes drop. But it's dope to see a different side of Blackness.

Cowboy Bebop (2021)

This Is A Great Show If You View It As An Alternate Reality
25 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It was difficult getting past the first two episodes. I had to stop because it didn't feel authentic or veyr good. But a few days later and midway through the third episode, I decided to watch it as Cowboy Bebop in a different timeline. It's the same three characters with some minor adjustments.

The anime was heavy and depressing. I like this live-action being a bit more lighthearted. Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black is the best acting job on the show. Having a daughter feels like a weird and boring plot line, but I get it. Black dad can't get a break even in the future. Lol. John Cho is amazing too, but a lot of his dialogue feels too comical, which I dont' like. Faye cursing all the time feels out of place.

The visuals and set designs are amazing. There's too much music; feels like 90%of scenes has music. It's too much, man! Vicious' acting is eh. Spike being called "Fearless" is the worst idea I've ever heard being pitched. Fire that person, please.

But overall, watching it for what it is, and taking everything into account, I can appreciate this. And maybe after a few more rewatches really see if I love it.

Edit: Episode 9 makes it 9 stars.

Funny and a Nice Change of Scenery and Culture
11 September 2021
Just stumbled across this today and binged all four episodes.

I thought it was going to be cheesy initially. Russell Peters sounds like Seth Rogen, but I guess it's just a Canadian thing. But once I got pass that this show is really good.

The acting isn't amazing, but it's fresh new scenery, fresh faces, and a fun police underdog story. The writing is witty at times and it's nice to see different cultures represented with he same issues that are usually shown as being excluiseve to Western television.

Some of these reviews are harsh because people are taking it personal that it wasn't shot in India or the actors weren't Indian. No one knows that. As long as they represent the culture, that's all that matters. Maybe in Season 2, things would've changed and they'd bring filiming to India.

Amazing Show That Premiered A Few Years Too Late
8 September 2021
On my second rewatch of this. Season one was hilarious, invirgoating, and refreshing. Season two started off weird because the jokes felt too forced, but after episode 3 everything fell right in place.

I think the only issue with this show is that it caters to a weird demographic. These characters are supposed to be 39/40/41 but their lifestyle seems very different than what a lot of people in those age ranges are really dealing with. They're right at the edge of millenilas, so their storylines and lifestyle don't really fit into what millenials like.

The "Nice weed" line in Season 2 Episode 3 sums up this show. They're old but they act young, and it just feels weird becasue they're between both worlds.

The series mixes so many hilarious different layers and references that would have been great for millenials in 2014-2016, when the older millenials were in their late mid to late 30's and looking forward to the potential of what life would be like at that age. But it may just be weirdly unrelatable to a lot of people because of the "in between" of generations. Who are they marketing this show to?

But I relate and love it. I wish there was a season three and more time to explore these characters and their unique dynamic and friendship.

Lisa's character is a bit bratty. I totally understand her storyline unfolding the way it did.(I forget how it ends, I'm only on episode 4).

The Invisible Man (I) (2020)

Meh
8 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Wasn't planning to review but after seeing all this praise I had to. SPOILERS LIKE CRAZY BEWAre. ESPECIALLY # 4.

This movie is mediocre at best. Very easy and expected plot and a forced story that is way longer than it could have been.

1. In the hospital scene where Moss's character was on the floor and Mr. InvisIble was beating all the guards to death, why didn't she pick up the gun that was right next to her and shoot him in the leg. Why'd she wait 5 minutes, just so we could see some action scene and once he ran out the door, decide to pick up the gun.

2. Moss is hard to look at for extended periods of times. Just like Micky Rourke is. All those closeups made me cringe.

3. Did the suit give him super strength too? Because we was breaking limbs and throwing people around like rag dolls

4. There are plenty of movies where women are in physically abusive relationships, they run away and somehow plot and end up killing the man at the end. And we're supposed to cheer them on? Enough with J. Lo for example. The men never tried to kill the women. At least J lo worked on becoming a fighter. Moss was a coward in her actions. Booooo

5. How can someone be on the other side of the room, you get punched in the face and blame them? Booooo

Not as bad as these reviews say
15 January 2020
This is a solid B movie. There are great moments that are creepy, the story is decent, acting isn't as bad as everyone is saying. There are a lot of great actors in here.Lucien Laviscount who's in the Snatch series, Michael Trucco from BSG! Douglas smith does a great job. It was creepy but had some eh moments. I'd def watch a part two!

The first season was amazing and after 3 episodes in the second season, the show is getting better. Strong international acting cast, fun storyline and diversity in characters and their strentghs. Huzzah!

Zzzz *Mini Spoiler*
21 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I started watching this show with the hope there'd be some type of science or astronomy. I'm at fault for having expectations.

This show is boring. The characters are predictable and script are both predictable.

In addition I feel like I'm watching a show during segregation. This adds onto the the dullness. All the characters are pretty much the same just in different clothing. I understand the "era" aspect and why the cast has a certain "look" but regardless it takes away from the substance.

This is the Truman show with no substance.
