House of the Dragon: The Rogue Prince (2022)
Season 1, Episode 2
5/10
...and switch
29 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First episode was on track but this one dropped the ball. So the rogue prince who nails the role of a killer (I'm rooting for him) steals a dragon egg, decides to start a war basically against all odds, and then goes right to 2022 for a while to get educated on what's acceptable and normal, returns. What does he do upon returnal? Gives back the dragon egg when his young female niece asks and gets lectured by his woman (her job in the movie cannot be written here as it's profanity) on some stuff.

We also get to be shocked by how long ago some kings would behave but not this one. This king also tries to school his daughter a bit but she's not having it and he being from from the future accepts it because that's life. This one is a people pleaser, surely a king's defining trait.

I do not recall these non-sense scenes in GOT so my hopes have gone down but hey, who knows how the winds will blow? Maybe we'll get more teen drama to go with our cat simulation games or maybe the show will not try to educate us and will instead just tell a good and realistical story. You can't place a show in a fantasy medieval world and make the characters act like from 2022.

Also I don't recall a single issue of women in GOT being offended by the lack of rights they had, it was a medieval setting that was a given, why change that? Not realistic.

1883 (2021–2022)
6/10
First episode was realistic but then they decided it's not 1883, it's 2022
16 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Just minding your business, when out of the blue here comes a TV Series with an IMDB score of ~9. Must be good, let's get to it.

First episode delivers, realistic, gritty, good setting, interesting story/characters, all good.

But as the show goes one, it starts slipping, 2022 starts seeping in.

The parents don't care if their ~18 year old girl starts having sex, they encourage her, sure honey, go sleep with that semi-stranger.

While being in mortal danger almost non-stop, they have time to argue about trivial things just like today when we're bored non-stop. For example a man says f..k, a woman takes a knife, threatens to kill him because her son heard that f..k. The man backs up in fear of her mighty free spirit from 1883 and cowers away while she goes on being a badass.

Stupid. At this point why bother with US TV Series? All shows are unrealistic.

Used to be better
27 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I remember watching season 3 and thinking that it's bad but after watching the first episodes it got better and I actually liked the 2nd half of the season. Seasons 1 and 2 I remember were ok too. But man, season 3 just sucks. I think there was only one episode which I liked, all the others are just full of non sensical interactions
  • 3 people with guns stand in front on 20 people with guns, seconds later the 20 people with guns are fleeing, maybe 1 or 2 people got shot; you have to be plain stupid to direct this kind of non sense
  • bad guys are just lame, the proctors? gone after being built up like some kind of saviors; the vultures? destroyed by 3 people with guns basically; bad black woman? she's the worst (in the good sense) of the 3;
  • people get shot in the chest and just live with a rag thrown there, not even pressed
  • just full of non sense, at almost every turn
  • everyone is just struggling to be good or bad and hands out chances to everyone to live and be good; unrealistic
Whoever directs this, do yourself a favor and do something else for a while, go live, see people and how the world works, then if you still want to do this go direct a movie. Also, as an actor, don't just play in this kind of movies, just die in it (good job Nick and Mom) and do something else, you're ruining your career here.

Suburra (2015)

Fresh and haunting
21 April 2016
I have seen and loved Gomorrah and the Gomorrah series (season 2 is coming this year in case you don't know, yeey), and went into seeing this with high expectations. I was not disappointed. Somehow after 3 weeks I keep thinking back to it and searching for similar movies/TV series. The main thing that detracts from the experience in my case is a movie with unrealistic/unbelievable plot/actions, this one doesn't have them imho so I was always focused on the action, not thinking about "this isn't believable, nobody would do that". The soundtrack definitely helps, I may be exaggerating but I put it up there with Drive and The Guest, it adds a whole new dimension to otherwise just above the average movies, making them great, making you want to watch them again. That's something I can't say for a lot of movies I've seen. So yeah, I think I'm gonna watch Suburra again tonight, enjoying it's high action pace, realism, brutality and soundtrack.

Romanian sopranos
26 April 2015
I just started watching this, saw the first 3 episodes. I wasn't expecting it to be good or bad, but being HBO I was confident it wouldn't suck. What I found is a good show, it resembles The Sopranos in many ways but with the exoticism of Romania it's not that visible. There are many funny moments, some great scenes, some nudity (ofc, it's HBO), all in all I recommend it if you liked The Sopranos or similar shows, or if you want a taste of Romania and its criminal organizations. I'm looking forward to the next season and I hope it continues for the classical HBO 6 series (or more) because there's some good stuff here.
