The first time I saw this movie that revealed the exploitation of a starving generation I didn't think much of it, more I was just like, "Woah." But this film stuck with me months after I saw it. I drew many parallels to the depression era trend and to reality television today. The mere difference is only that in the 30's people were dancing for their supper...now they're embarrassing themselves for plasma tvs and hummers. Michael Sarrazzin and Jane Fonda were so rightfully cast as Robert and GLoria. Robert was more or less accidentally entered into the dance contest and GLoria has made a profession out of doing anything to get out of her life that has been so obviously riddle with misery. The movie is a gift from Sydney Pollack and no one actress could possibly have breathed life into GLoria Beatty the way that Jane Fonda did.

I would have never seen this movie if it wasn't for younger siblings. It's the kind of movie you don't think you will ever see and I saw it and I laughed again and again.

I didn't find it racist because I found the comedy mostly geared toward differences between men and women and the most hilarious aspects of the film come from the Wayan's brothers dressing up as the girls and the tribulations they have.

Personally I can understand how anyone over the age of twenty might not find it as funny. It's a comedy mostly geared toward younger people in the way of Night at the Roxbury or even Clueless. My advice would be to see it but don't expect too much...maybe you'll like it.

I admit the whole Gay Focker thing is a bit contrived and a bit overdone. How many bad days can this guy possibly have? And I also can admit that Robert Deniro's character of a meddling father/spy is old again after the first half an hour, but the comedic genius of Barbra Streisand and Dustin Hoffman as the parents of gay. Too funny. I have never laughed so hard and smiled so long during a movie in my life. It was a great comeback for her after what was it, ten years.. I am glad she got to work her old chemistry with Dustin. Pretty sweet. I love the feel of the film, the kind of relaxed feeling that you get at Fockers house. I guess the moral of the movie is, love your family. No matter how weird they are, no matter how embarrassing.
