Excellent
19 December 2010
I really enjoyed this comedy special from Ricky Gervais. He's a truly funny man, and certainly one of the best in England right now.

He seemed pretty at ease with himself during the performance, and as with other such stand up routines I've seen him do, he sipped a beer (or at least something from a Foster's can throughout the show.

His material was very funny in a lot of parts, but some of the material will be highly offensive to some, especially some of the sexual references.

My only real criticism is that one part of his act was clearly lifted out of his recent HBO TV show, and another part I'd seen somewhere else before. Somehow that takes the edge off it a little.

All in all though, if you like fairly British humor, and are not easily offended, this is something you should enjoy.

Sucked
17 February 2008
I have to say I was looking forward to the show, because as a child of the 80s I used to really enjoy Knight Rider. However, I had a sneaking suspicion that this show was going to suck.

I was not disappointed, at least when it comes to the satisfaction of being right. Sadly, I had hoped I'd be wrong and that with modern CGI and good writing the show would be kinda cool.

What happened however, is a Ford sponsored love fest. The actors appeared to have gone to the Hasslehoff school of acting (with guest lecturer Steven Segal).

My favorite part of the show was when KITT has the bright idea of going into the mountains to elude the bad guys. Frankly the last place a Mustang GT500 is going to want to go to escape is twisty mountain roads. It's a well known fact that Mustangs have antiquated suspension and need to be driven in a very straight line.

So basically the car kinda sucked, and kept growing stupid looking spoilers that you'd normally see on a boy racers Dodge Neon. The car had a creepy voice, the human actors sucked. The special effects were okay, but nothing special by today's standards.

Overall it was like the show was trying too hard. But try as it might even a cameo by the Hoffster himself could not save this show from itself. It's a real turd of a show, and it's going to need a serious overhaul if they intend to run a season of it.

Just okay for me dog
24 March 2007
To be honest, this movie was one of those blah movies. It wasn't offensively bad, it wasn't amazingly good, it didn't really leave me thinking. It might just as well have been a remake of the original several movies. About the only thing it brings to the table is a new movie with more advanced special effects that may bring joy to Superman fans.

Otherwise the story is the same old same old; Clark Kent bumbles around, Lois Lane is apparently completely incapable of recognizing someone she loves once he puts glasses on. The plot is along the lines of Superman returns from a trip, does some heroic things, bad guy has an evil plot, tries to hurt Superman, good wins out over evil and everyone lives happily ever after with the door open for yet another sequel if market forces demand it.

I'm sure die hard fans will get something out of it. After all the visual effects are pretty cool compared with the original 1978 movie, but in terms of an exciting new movie, I'd be just as happy in life if I had not paid $2.99 on pay for view to see it.

Very Very Bad
23 January 2007
I imagine that watching this movie is like getting a vodka enema: Largely pointless and quite painful.

Quite honestly it is hard to put into words just how bad this movie is. Nicholas Cage is just about as wooden as it gets. Like Tom Cruise in War of the Worlds, his character is so tedious one can't help but be ambivalent as to their fate.

The movie trundles from one tedious scene to another in a story that makes very little sense and does nothing to capture the imagination. I was watching the movie at a friends house and it was honestly so bad I changed my mind about being the designated driver just so I could drink more. I had hoped that drinking more wine would make the movie more palatable. Sadly, it did not. Although it did make the movie pass slightly quicker which is a blessing. It's bad enough wasting two hours of your life, but it's far worse when those two hours seem like ten.

By the time I had started on my second bottle of red wine I began to laugh at some of the ridiculous scenes towards the end of the movie. But I can't help but think that the wine made the scenes more amusing than they really are. In reality the amusement came from caustic remarks from the others who were being subjected to this drivel as opposed to anything specific in the movie.

If you are planing to watch this movie, I suggest you do so at a friends house. That way you don't have to pay for it. I also strongly suggest a serious amount of alcohol to numb the pain.

This movie is a raspberry shaped turkey that actually makes Face Off and Battlefield Earth seem like half decent movies. Unless you are really in the mood for a terrible movie and have a sincere desire to squander two hours of your life, give this one a miss.

Rounders With Chicks
19 November 2006
Imagine Rounders, take out the good acting and plot, take out the reasonably accurate rendition of poker, and add three women who look good, but can't act. That's about it.

Three girls figure out a way to cheat at poker, but then one of them decides they should learn to beat the game straight. So in a matter of weeks she learns to become a world class poker player.

The movie is a complete joke. The poker scenes are completely unbelievable. Half the time they are playing high stakes poker with the kind of chips that they sell in sets at the mall for $20. There are endless mistakes in the movie, too many to mention. One of the most laughable is the big tournament they play in Rio, where they play on a huge round table. Every time they go all in they practically throw their cheap chips into the pot so there is no way of knowing what the bet is. Then because the table is round the dealer can't even reach the chips to put them in the pot! I was not surprised the movie was junk. I just thought I would have it on in the background. There is a reason it is straight to video and no one bothered to rate it.

Okay, so this move is not offensively bad like Battlefield Earth, but it is pretty damn bad. Low budget, poor quality, kinda like soft porn, without the porn. Very weird. If you want to watch a movie about poker give this one a miss. If you want to see some girls that can't act go on a completely unbelievable adventure during their summer vacation, and don't mind low budget crap, take a look at this movie. Otherwise you might just as well watch Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

Now And Then - With Pants
9 December 2005
It's not a bad movie by any means, but frankly I've seen it all before and more than likely so have you.

Some teenage girls are friends and we watch their experiences over a summer as they grow up and in some ways apart. The twist here is that they purchased some pants that magically fit them all, even the fat chick.

If you like that kind of movie then you'll probably like this one a lot. Personally I thought that Now and Then was better. Like Now and Then this movie has its moments and is worth watching, just don't expect anything earth shattering or original. Equally don't expect it to suck either, because it's really not that bad.

Great Movie
9 December 2005
If you like poker, Matt Damon, Edward Norton or John Malkovich then there is a very good chance you're going to like this movie.

For poker fans there are some great scenes that you'll just love, whatever your level of play. Even if you're not into poker yet the scenes are tense and exciting and don't take over the entire movie.

If you like any of the aforementioned actors, they all give outstanding performances.

The movie itself progresses nicely without any dull moments or unnecessary sub plots. It holds the interest from beginning to end and leaves with you with that 'just seen a good movie' feeling at the end. I've seen it multiple times and it remains in my personal top 10 favorites.

Top Gear (2002–2022)
Why this show does not suck
12 October 2005
Let me explain why the show doesn't suck. You can watch any motoring show if you want a boring commentary of how big the brake rotors are and what the side panels are made out of. The reason that Top Gear has been on the air since 1978 is because it is an outstanding show that brought about a new breed of motoring journalism, largely thanks to Jeremy Clarkson. For anyone to make comments about the show sucking when only 10 made for America episodes have aired here is preposterous. How can you possibly judge a show that has run for 23 years having seen a couple of episodes?

The problem is that some people have a ridiculously narrow view of what a motoring show should be like, and when something new and innovative comes along all they can do is pour scorn. The new format of Top Gear that has been around for five years now it outstanding, I hope they show more here in the US.

Tilt (2005)
ESPN needs practice showing its shows
19 March 2005
I've just seen the final episode of Tilt and have to say enjoyed the series. It was by no means perfect, some of it was a shade predictable, some of the acting and dialogue was a little below par. But overall if you're the kind of person that likes watching poker and enjoyed the movie Rounders you're probably going to enjoy this offering from ESPN.

My only complaint was the horrible scheduling of ESPN. If it wasn't for DVR I never would have seen every episode, which sucks as the storyline is sequential from one episode to the next. Even with DVR you'd have run into problems since three weeks running ESPN were over 30 minutes late showing an episode because of some ball game. Then they decided to move the finale to an entirely different day. It was almost like they were trying to kill the ratings. If ESPN want to make another season or indeed another series like this they need to schedule it properly or sell it to another network.

If you can actually see all the episodes in order, and you're a poker fan, I think you'll enjoy. If you are a 'poker is not a sport' kind of person who doesn't think mental games of skill are interesting, stay clear. Oh and it has some adult themes, if you dislike such things don't watch.
