3 Body Problem (2024)
This show made me genuinely angry.
This is going to sound like a rant because it's FRESH. I just finished watching.
The first thing to say is that I hate this show because I know it's based on something good.
The are genuinely good ideas here which is what kept me watching to the end of the series, but when it finished I was angry with myself for watching it. Those good parts I mention, I can tell are lifted from something good (I've not done enough research to tell what that is yet although I'm aware there is another version) but the characters involved are all that unlikeable you don't care anyway!
You can tell this series is teeing up something much bigger for the next, but I for one won't be watching.
Babylon (2022)
I don't understand why this film isn't huge?!
I've just finished watching Babylon and I probably still have that after movie glow that you get when you've just seen something amazing.
It's hard to know where to start. The first hour of this 3 HOUR (I know, but give it a go) movie is pure chaos and feels like 5 minutes. What follows is pure storytelling gold, done to perfection.
My intention was to do this in 3 sittings with small intervals between, but the story flows so well, that I didn't want to pause (yes I watched it at home). I won't drone on about the story like other reviewers, the synopsis gives you the idea, and there will be no spoilers.
The performances all round were captivating, the opening scene drags you in and the rest of the movie makes you love the characters, at the same time breaking your heart.
I've only given 4 other 10/10 ratings on imdb and this one truly deserves it.
Hunters (2020)
This is just bad.
The opening scene really grabbed me, that is if you ignore the age inconsistencies. But it goes downhill fast, I actually groaned at one of the "jokes".
The silly one dimensional stereotypical characters are comic book like. There's an English nun, a soul sister, a moody Asian and a cool movie star, why??? The dialogue is dreadful and I found myself drifting off. I think what are supposed to be jokes fall flat and the hammy accents put you off.
The truth is you don't care about a single character in the whole show because their characters aren't well crafted enough.
I watched it far longer than it deserved (4 EPs).
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
I was so bored.
I've struggled to get into the fantastic beasts films, but stuck with it because there were certain things I liked about it and I really hoped it was building to something.
IT REALLY ISN'T.
This s dull, long, many things didn't make much sense, in summary I thought it was awful and I won't be watching any more.
Nightmare Alley (2021)
I'm not sure what the fuss is about.
What a whole lot of nothing! If I'm looking for good points, It's stylishly shot, but the story is predictable and clunky with no chemistry from
the main characters who are completely unlikeable.
Electric Dreams (2017)
Poor scifi.
I've read a few of PKD's short stories and they're really interesting, however these stories are mostly dull.
It's difficult to review a whole anthology series, because inevitably some are good and some are bad.
On the whole though the series was dull and unengaging, some of the stories just end with no explanation. I suspect this is to allow you to draw your own conclusions, but personally I like a resolution.
Pig (2021)
Absolutely loved it.
I really enjoyed this film because I had no idea what to expect, especially with N. C.
But it kept me guessing and I was pleasantly surprised, well worth a watch.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021)
2 stars for the first half hour.
Firstly, let me be clear, I hated this movie, to the point I was telling my tv to F. O.
It's probably worth mentioning that I'm in my 40's and was obsessed with Ghostbusters when I was a kid.
This film was quite fun for the first half hour or so and then it became Ghostbusters greatest hits. Oh, and sooo predictable that I knew how it was going to end.
Not for me, sorry.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
Rubbish
They're is absolutely nothing good about this movie. God knows how it has a score of 6. Fanboys probably? Just awful. Terrible acting by all, messy thrown together action scenes and z movie dialogue.
The Hunt (2020)
A hidden gem
Why has this movie only got a score of 6.5? It's terrific! Fun from start to finish.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Why the hate?
I don't understand why people are giving this film such bad ratings, I really enjoyed the whole thing.
I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
Ooooh that's what's going on....(spoiler free)
I only now understand what was going on in this film, after I read the other reviews here. But honestly I was so confused when it ended, not really understanding the references. So the question is, is it any good? Is the failing mine for not understanding or one of the filmmaker for not explaining it simply enough?
I certainly didn't enjoy it enough to give it a second watch but I have given it three stars now I know what was going on. I just didn't after watching the movie alone???
Finding Escobar's Millions (2017)
I wish I'd read the reviews.
There are no spoilers because there's nothing to spoil. Worse than oak island I'd say.
The Edge (2019)
It's entertaining, but not if you're interested in the cricket.
I'm a fairly new fan of cricket (2-3 years). So I don't remember this story, but It seems like they add all the exciting parts of what happened at this time (2009 - 2013) without actually giving you any scores, I know cricket scores can be bamboozling to non cricket fans but a few scores in context would have helped. It does seem to be more about the stresses of the game.
