American Hustle (2013)
A film with Characters, not a story.
I was particularly looking forward to this film after i saw the preview, didn't understand what the plot was but it had a great cast and looked like some interesting characters and that's just what it was.
American Hustle very little has a plot or doesn't make a great effort to focus on it, Director David Russell even told Bale he wanted to focus on the characters rather then the films story which in all is OK with me.
Bale plays the lead extremely well and totally disappears in his character! not once i thought about Batman, the key to his role was his characters patience.
Brad Cooper plays a Fed wanted to take down and corrupt politicians, while providing some of the films comic relief.
Amy Adams plays the love interest for Bale and Cooper in the film, now admittedly i 'm not a huge fan of Amy,though i can still agree she's definitely beautiful and a good actress she pulls off this role well being the eye candy for men's eyes.
Jeremy Renner takes a break from all the action roles and taking on a "normal guy" role as the Mayor, the most likable character in the film who wants to do whats best for the people of New Jersey though caught up in the middle of the scam.
Jennifer Lawrence may have stole the show, she play's Bale's unpredictable and prideful wife who always makes her mistakes seem like SHE did something right. Though her role may not big as huge as the trailer may suggest she steals every scene and keeps proving how she's been Hollywood worthy in these recent times, Keep it up Jen!
We even get a special cameo which i shall not spoil.
I wouldn't recommend American Hustle for everyone, its a great film but i can see how it can bore a lot of people but overall it's a well made film that deserves a good chance from severe movie goers or fans of the cast and genre.
Hyappatsu hyakuchu (1965)
A wonderful and sadly underrated gem from the makers of Godzilla
Ironfinger (or 100 shots,100 killed) is a Toho's parody to the James Bond series, It stars Akira Takarada as Andrew Hishino who seems like a regular guy caught up in a secret agent scam but he is not who he seems, also starring is Mia Hama who would actually star in a James Bond movie herself (You Only Live Twice)Ichiro Arishima (Mr.Tako from King Kong vs Godzilla) and Akhito Hirata who plays one the villains. If you, like me, grew up watching Godzilla films you would be able to recognize most the cast and it is a treat to watch them perform in something different and they really seemed to have been having a blast making this. The film has a fun and enjoyable and silly atmosphere and while many moments are over the top they go with the film's nature. Unfortunately there is no US DVD release of the film, fortunately if you have a Hulu account you can find it there! along with it's Sequel (though not as fun as the first but still a good one!) Golden eye!
