Who Do You Think You Are?: Claire Foy (2023)
Brirish Army
I find it so strange that when she finds out her great grandfather died in a ¨paper chase´, organised by the British Army as ´fun´for the officers, & probably a bet or two had been had, that some of them couldn´t even swim & there had been a swelling of the river due to rain. They didn´t care, the normal soldier was a commodity to be used at the officers whim. Thank God things have changed & the regular squaddie is an integral part of the fighting forces, & not a disposable unit. I am always amazed at the lack of humanity to their fellows humans. The British Army has a lot to answer for over the years. They have always relied on ordinary peoples patriotic fervour, & their willingness to protect their country without an iota of respect for the normal fighting man.
Moonhaven (2022)
Too much.
The Earth is tearing itself apart because humans are basically assholes, but people who have lived on the Moon for 3 generations have the answer. I would have thought the answer is let humanity die & let the Earth regenerate & produce something that will appreciate where they live. Humans have had their chance, we destroy everything with pollution, man-made radiation, & never being happy with what we have. The country next door has better, so let's take that. We will never live in peace, because there are too many people who are just followers, & people who exploit that & become the dictator. God help us all, & I'm an atheist.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Like the original
I have read several bad reviews of this show, but feel people have become too picky.
The original series, which is the one everybody harks back to, was just like this new offering.
Out there in the galaxy, but grounded. Funny, but serious.
I have watched all series & films of Star Trek, going back to when I saw the 1st series back in 1966.
The 'trouble with tribbles' & 'I, Mudd' were funny, while 'Let that be your last battlefield' had a very serious storyline.
I feel this is going to be the closest to the original as we have seen. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
The obvious modern change is the mostly female staff.
I suppose we can't have the male Neanderthals running amok!
Slow Horses (2022)
Fabulous
Gary Oldman shows again what a tour de force he is. Be it a head of state or a washed out spy, he does it all with such aplomb.
He has made this series, without taking anything away from the rest of the cast.
This is a quirky spy series, with enough to keep you wanting more, craving the next episode.
Serious, yet amusing in parts, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Can´t wait for the 2nd season.
Well done.
Bridgerton (2020)
Not watched it yet!
I watched the trailer & was taken aback with black people being portrayed in the way they are. I understood it to be an historical drama, in the Downton Abbey style. Having read reviews I realise this is not the case, & I can now accept the casting. But it does bother me that reviewers of 'The Gilded Age' complained it was not historically accurate. Surely that is a double standard. It's fine to flaunt history in one programme & not another. Please understand, as I do, this is television, stories, not the History Channel. I will watch this & hope to enjoy the spectacle.
The Gilded Age (2022)
Not Downton Abbey
Many reviewers have stated that this programme is not as good as Downton Abbey, & that it is not historically correct.
Downton Abbey was not correct in the way the downstairs staff interacted with the upstairs characters.
This is not Downton Abbey & has to be judged on it's own merits.
It is a story more about the good & bad people within the programme, the lavish production is eye candy to cheer for one character, & boo for another.
Remember folks, it's a story, & not a history channel documentary.
I am enjoying the backstabbing & shenanigans of the upper & lower classes.
Goliath (2016)
Homage
5 eps into the 4th season & it seems as though Mr. Thornton is on yet another acid trip. His continual homage to older films is becoming annoying. Rear Window, High Noon, To Catch a Thief, are really not necessary I think, merely an indulgence. If they just kept to the storyline, I would enjoy it more. Definitely not as good as the 1st season.
FBI: International (2021)
World Police
I saw a very similar theme portrayed in that excellent 2004 film.
Team America : World Police.
The acting wasn't as good as that film, but thank God the Americans are around to save all the European natives from their corrupt, & amateurish police forces. God Bless America!
Without Remorse (2021)
Chess
Within the first 10 minutes, they are at their house having a get together, when he makes a move on the chess board to show how intelligent he is. The guy had already moved black, & he makes another black move for him. From then I thought, 'this is gonna be another formulaic movie'.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Not Star Trek!
I just watched episode 12 & 13.
I gave up complete hope when the bridge crew were gasping for air, then proceeded to give monologues. There has been too much of a touchy-feely aspect to it all. The Star Trek name has kept me coming back, but I remember the original '66' series & subsequent episodes & films. This would have held my interest longer if it was a proper Sci-Fi series, not under the name Star Trek. I now prefer 'The Expanse'.
