Sensationalistic tripe
16 August 2021
Almost every scene begins with the announcement of how many years before the band splits. Silly interviewees with their coached comments.

A piece of magic

I had to force myself to watch the 2005 remake. It less than pales in comparison to this classic. It's actually quite amusing to read through the few low-rating comments. It's also quite sad that some folks just don't get it. No sense of humour, no imagination--- which the movie was actually full of.

Interesting that my grandkids don't feel like "running away from it", rather it's often their first pick to watch when coming over to grandpa's house. I've never gotten tired of it.

Really, Really bad.

This was, at best, comparable to one of those dangerously cheesy Lifetime Channel movies. Seeing the trailer a few weeks ago, I knew it would be bad, but not nearly as terrible as it was. I swore I would make it through the end, and I did. It just continued to get worse and worse. Octavio should be totally embarrassed to have anything to do with this piece of trash.

Train wreck.

What an embarrassment. Glenn Ford did the best he could do with this horrid film. Grade-school script, bizarre childish camera work, strange score. It's no wonder Stella Stevens went absolutely nowhere. I wonder how Glenn got roped into doing this one.

Train wreck.

This film came off as a disjointed biopic masquerading as a cheesy musical. Very disappointing, and I'm a huge Elton fan. Could have been so much better. Save your money, go home and listen to Madman Across the Water.

I'd give it an 11 if I could.

Brilliant dialogue, cinematography, casting, and storytelling. The Coen Brothers have redeemed themselves from the stinker "Hail, Ceasar". If you need films with a "point", and require everything spelled out for you, without any room for thought, this is not the film for you. Go watch "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" for the 17th time.
