The Pink Panther (2006)
...and it was funny nonetheless.
First off, like most of the times I go to the cinema and watch some new version of a classic I'm pretty skeptic, and I was this time, too. Well, it was just as I expected. But fascinatingly in a good way... I expected slapstick, good actors in a bad movie and mediocre use of the Mancini theme. The slapstick, there I was right, of course, the kids were having a fun time and I enjoyed it too, because it was in a nice and sweet way. The french accent added a lot of flair, too. Good actors, right again, bad movie, no. The actors played the lack of a storyline off very well and Jean Reno was especially lovable as Ponton. Bad remixes of the Mancini theme, wrong, the so called 'Malibu' remix was nice and the whole soundtrack was fitting and sounded good.
While it wasn't necessarily the best movie I've ever seen, it was by far not the worst either - it was funny, the actors good and the music nice, 7 out of 10, because it was good for 1 1/2 hours of laughter.
The Thief Lord (2006)
Stunning~
When I was about 9 or 10, I read the book. I loved it, and it deepened my love for the city of Venice. The movie is about two boys, Pop and Bo, who get separated when their mother dies: 6 year old Bo has to live with his terrible aunt and uncle, 15 year old Pop ends up in an orphanage. The decide to run away to Venice, a city their mother had always loved. Without money or home, they meet the 16 year old Lord of the Thiefs and get to live with him and his gang of orphans, and get a dangerous mission to steal a wooden wing...
The actors were well chosen and played even due to their young age very well, the pictures of Venice are beautiful and the music was thoroughly fitting. Only 9 stars, because notable changes were made from the book, though it wasn't too tragic.
Starsky & Hutch (2004)
Nice 'n light
3 am, after various Tequilla Shots and movies, somebody pulls out 'Starsky & Hutch' out of nowhere. 'Great' I thought. 'Another Owen Wilson movie...' We had already watched Shanghai Noon and Shanghai Knights, which I hadn't been too fond of. Well, I certainly was surprised.
Even though I had missed on the first five minutes of the movie, thanks to the lack of plot it wasn't too hard to follow the movie anyway. Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson work out great together, as already proved by movies like 'Zoolander', and it worked just as well as ever in Starsky & Hutch. I never saw the original series, since back then, my mom was my age and a big fan of the show... but back to the movie. As mentioned further up, the movie doesn't have a really deep plot - which doesn't make it any worse, instead, the gags make up for it. One gag follows another, and they ain't bad. Since I never had cared about that movie before, none of the gag's were spoiled for me through TV and even the Pony was hilarious to me. The music and clothes are great, it really captures the 70s flair, and Snoop Dogg as Huggybear is an extra plus. But all that probably wasn't what made me fall in love with this movie... Instead Starsky and Hutch, one of the loveliest movie couples in my opinion, was what I loved so much about the movie. The homo-erotic hints aren't really subtle, but cute to the bone. Is there anything better than Hutch carrying Starks lovingly to bed? Not for me. Even my male friends had to agree, that it was funny and kinda cute at the same time.
Overall, I got only one more thing to say: Watch that movie! ...Do it!
