A good flick.
28 August 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I am a big fan of the "Dukes of Hazzard" TV series, and was excited when I heard there was going to be a big screen version. I saw the movie last night, and while it wasn't bad, the movie was nothing like the TV series. But I wasn't expecting an Academy Award winning movie. Judging from the 330 (at least) posted comments, DOH has inspired a lot of emotion from a lot of people (me included).

But I do have a couple of questions to ask:

1. Since when did Rosco inspire so much fear in Hazzard County? 2. Was Lynda Carter's character a Duke family friend or Uncle Jesse's woman? 3. Why did Luke wear sunglasses? Did Uncle Jesse give him one of his "special cigarettes"?

Even though it was nothing like the TV series, it still was a good movie.

Another entertaining masterpiece!
25 August 2005
Warning: Spoilers
I've just seen "Reefer Madness" for the first time, and I must say that it was hilarious. One scene that was memorable for me was when Mary got shot. How could that happen when Bill and Jack (please correct me if I got the names wrong) were struggling on the floor and she was on the couch? As far fetched as some of this movie was, I found it very amusing (and no, I'm not high as I type this!)

This movie appears to be a public service vehicle to keep kids from "marihuana". Marijuana (the producers of this film would probably pronounce the proper spelling "Mare-ah-joo-wanna) is a dangerous drug, but not nearly as dangerous as crack, cocaine and many other drugs. I've never heard of a case of anyone that has smoked weed starting to dance as badly as these characters were. I was born in 1974, so I guess I had to be there.

Overall, a pretty entertaining film, if nothing else. It won't go down in film history as the greatest film of all time, but it did make me laugh!

Studs (1991–1993)
Hidden 1990's gem.
29 July 2005
It can be argued that this show was a ripoff of "Love Connection", but "Studs" took dating to another level. Host Mark DeCarlo presided over the festivities as 2 guys talk about their dates with 3 women. The women make statements before the show and the guys have to guess which woman said which statement. A correct guess wins the guy a heart, and the most hearts gets the guy closer to a dream getaway of his choice with the woman of his choice (provided she picks him to be her date, of course.)

The gimmick of this show was some of the statements pre-recorded by the women before the show. These statements were edited to imply sexual innuendo that would get the audience roaring in anticipation (although there were one or two instances when the man and woman did take things to an intimate level.)

But one memorable episode had one young woman complaining that her date only spent six dollars on their date. She went on and on for about two minutes talking about her date being so cheap that she left with another guy. How embarrassing was that! I bet that guy wanted to crawl into a hole and stay there. But he rebounded and did get picked by one of the other ladies, so all was not lost.

I believe "Studs" only lasted about three seasons, but I would love to know if it is available on DVD. If it is, please let me know. Have a great weekend!

Blind Date (I) (1999–2006)
Have you any shame?
29 July 2005
I have seen this show several times, and it amazes me how shallow and superficial some of these people are. I saw this one guy tell his date that "you're not pretty enough to be with me!" right to her face! When tact was being handed out, this guy must have been combing his hair or flexing his muscles. I thought I had seen it all, until I saw another episode when one particularly attractive young woman jumped into a cab during her date, and the man literally chased the cab on foot yelling "We can work it out!" My goodness, don't you have any pride! These people can't be serious....wait, maybe they are!

In any event, "Blind Date" is a cool show, so if you're up around 1am, check it out!

What's Happening!! (1976–1979)
An American Classic.
28 July 2005
This is one of my favorite shows of all time, if not my favorite show of all time. From Raj mumbling under his breath, to Rerun worshiping a head of lettuce, to Dwayne just being along for the ride, What's Happening was as much a slice of Americana as such shows as "I Love Lucy" and "Friends". I loved seeing them get into one mess after another. For instance, the episode when the guys apparently broke a brand new TV set that was used for a church raffle when they dropped it at Raj's house. They counted on Rerun to win the set, since he purchased about 80 tickets. How ironic that the one ticket he used to pay off his lunch tab to Shirley the waitress was the winning ticket for the TV? So Shirley wound up with the TV.

In any event, I heard that there will be a What's Happening marathon sometime in November on TVLand. If this is true, please let me know! Thanks for reading my post. Peace!

Entertaining!
28 July 2005
I received a copy of this movie for Christmas, and I must say that it was pretty funny. Especially the dub job. It seems there was one guy providing all the voices (including the women's voices!) One exchange that was particularly hilarious was the two guards talking about going to the "house of ill repute", with the one guard saying "Well, don't let me down!" I was curious if there was any info available on the work of the other actors besides John Liu. I know that I saw the actor who portrayed "Shorty" in an earlier Jackie Chan movie whose name escapes me as I type this. In any event, this is an entertaining movie that reminds me of the old kungfu flicks that used to come on every Saturday afternoon. Just a little piece of nostalgia.

Martin (1992–1997)
Favorite Episodes
2 March 2005
My favorite "Martin" episode was when Martin, Gina, Pam and Cole told their versions of how Martin and Gina met. Martin portrayed himself as a pimp that Gina was all over, while Gina had Martin as a shy nerdy type guy. Pam had Martin, Cole and Tommy as thugs, while Cole's version lasted only 5 seconds, with Pam all over him (yeah, right!)

But Tommy's version was the closest to the truth, with him, Martin and Cole crashing a private party that Gina and Pam attended. Cole and Tommy wound up getting thrown out by security, but Martin somehow convinced Gina to tell the security guard that he was her man, even though they never met before. Quite interesting. Also, any episode with Dragonfly Jones is funny as I don't know what. If anyone remembers the episode when Martin and Gina first met, let me know! Peace!
